Berkshire Saint Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Yeah, that is true actually. Although we lost all four of the opening we (albeit briefly in some cases) got into winning positions. A habit of last season was taking the first 4/5 wickets pretty easily and then watching numbers 7 and 8 pile on the runs...
corsacar saint Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 The habit so far this season has been to rely totally on the openers and Simon Jones when he is picked.Ervine,Vince and Mackenzie in particular are all very good players, but for whatever reasons have not applied themselves when batting so far this season. Window Cleaner Posted 4 May, 2011 Share Posted 4 May, 2011 Sussex today, really important game as they haven't had much of a start either. If we could win this one we might be able to move on up.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 May, 2011 Share Posted 4 May, 2011 So then Sussex chose to bat and have made a reasonable start at 52 without loss. Cork still bowling no-balls like they're going out of fashion and De Wet has been hit for 12 from 10 balls so far.

washsaint Posted 4 May, 2011 Share Posted 4 May, 2011 Oh dear.....following from afar it seems like the great spirit and youthful verve from the end of last season has been replaced by journeymen who are just not performing. This was one season too many for Cork and it is a shame that some of the younger players who played with such energy last season are not getting a look in. manji Posted 4 May, 2011 Share Posted 4 May, 2011 During the last One Dayer at The Rose Bowl Tomlinson was helping Solent with the commentary. He sounded very critical of some of the captaincy decisions.I was really surprised how vocal he was.I hope there are no underlying issues within the Hampshire camp. I thought with the squad we have and Corky as skipper we were set fair this season.

Window Cleaner Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Heading for a draw but at least Myburgh and Vince are getting their heads down and getting some grafted runs onto the board. 252/

chrisobee Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Actually it was a very good knock from Vince, showing the potential we know he has. If Myburgh can maintain his discipline then ( in theory at least !) the batting line up shouldn't be at all bad. Adams and Dawson are clearly playing well and McKenzie is one player who will apply himself and he arrived here off the back of an excellent season in South Africa. If Lumb returns I wonder if he might replace Ervine who is clearly struggling at present though he is still a very good player who may just need a few games for the 2nd X1 or a break to work on his batting. Cork was actually our most economical bowler by some way with 2/76 off 35.1 overs so I'm not writing him off just yet. It is hard to explain the performances though, the trip to the West Indies was a little odd though especially playing a number of 20/20 games. I guess, as ever, we cannot have Hants doing well when Saints are on a high, just doesn't happen !
chrisobee Posted 6 May, 2011 Share Posted 6 May, 2011 Some good news, Dimi took 6 wickets off 10 overs for the 2nd X1 v Northants 2nd X1. 2 in the 1st innings off 2 overs and 4 off 8 overs in the 2nd if I read the report right ! http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/hampshire-2xi-v-northamptonshire-2xi-friendly-report He also made 50 in Hants 1st innings. Kabir Ali took 4 wickets and Tomlinson also returned. Howell 99* and Ravenscroft 66 ensured Hants won with some ease.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 And so to Yorkshire. Great start today, Yorkshire 11/2 (were 7/2) both openers gone. Now we really need to turn the screw and not let some hack middle orderer take 200 off of us. Encouraging though.
Weston Saint Posted 11 May, 2011 Share Posted 11 May, 2011 Yorkshire 96-4 at lunch. With only 3 front line bowlers (excluding Briggs who has not bowled as yet) it was important Ervine supported well. That he did with figures of 1/13 off 7. We was also responsible for the run out when he managed to divert a full drive off his bowling onto the wicket at his end. Hampshires morning. After having them 140/6 and then 200/7 it is psychologically damaging to the whole side to then allow them to get up to nearly 350. We've seen it before with Hampshire, and i'm sure we'll see it again. Our bowling attack really lacks a genuine out and out wicket taker that can come on and clean up these frustrating tails. Until Imran Tahir comes back, i strongly doubt we will win a game as i just can't see us taking 20 wickets. As far as this game goes, i'm not confident of avoiding defeat. Headingley always does a bit, especially with the new ball and in overcast conditions (i believe it's overcast today) and they have two of the best seamers in the country in Bresnan and Shahzad. I'd love to be proved wrong, but i can't see us getting past their total after chasing leather for the last 50 odd overs.
keithd Posted 12 May, 2011 Share Posted 12 May, 2011 at great risk of sounding like Alpine, if we avoid relegation i'll be amazed. We had a poor start last year, think we lost our first 6 or 7 in all forms of the game including 3 county but this year seems to be worse. Getting into good positions then completely fluffing our lines. Atkins out

Hants now 69/2 both openers gone, it's up to Myburgh and McKenzie now, if Yorkshire can get one of them quickly they'd surely fancy their chances of winning by an innings. Sad,sad state of affairs to think we had them at 104/5.

Leicestersaint Posted 12 May, 2011 Share Posted 12 May, 2011 Oh dear oh dear. We seem to have lost all the team spirit and determination and discipline that we had under Warne. The batting is so inconsistent and brittle - what is the matter with them? Oh for Lumb and Carberry. Pothas doesn't seem to be scoring and we miss Dimi. I think we will be in a relegation fight for the rest of the summer - depressing after Saints did so well.

Players that are out of form are working very hard in the nets for hours on end. They will turn it round. Lumb is being missed at present but why is he not being picked in IPL? May be he is out of form as well!!! Dimi is not far away last time I spoke to him a week or so ago. We definately are a match winning bowler short at present. Ali coming back to form and fitness. Tomlinson is now fit and ready. Tahir still not expected to be fit before June.

So why dont we just ask for him back ?Glen Delve, the Rosebowl MD told me a few weeks ago they were working on it. Lumb gets $50,000 even if he does not play so if he comes back early he or we would have to pay up the contract. We are also paying Lumb under his contract but he does have to pay us a proportion of his IPL contract. Obviously he would not go into detail
Lets B Avenue Posted 12 May, 2011 Share Posted 12 May, 2011 Dimi played in the recent 2nd XI game and was restricted to 6 over spells and no more than 30 overs in the field per day. Not unlike the ECB restrictions on under 19s but imposed by our physio dept. See we gave a trial to Bilal Shafayat(ex-Notts) and he scored 219no.
