stevegrant Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Tomorrow's game at Taunton should be quite interesting, I'd almost give us a chance now that Trescothick's out injured.

wadesmith Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Not a bad looking side...but the bowling really lacks penetration. I've got no problem with us signing Katich as he's world class, i reckon he could easily score 1500 in a season, would much prefer Adams as captain, but our pace attack really concerns me, a fully fit Ali to replace Griffiths and suddenly it looks better...but will he ever be fit?
Weston Saint Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Ali has a year left on his initial 3 year contract. Simon Jones has a year left on his agreement which was a mixture of a regular contract and pay as you play. I expected to see Jones in the squad against Somerset after a conversation I was involved in with Rod B yesterday. Riazuddin is included which is pleasing. Reward for a decent display yesterday? Ali still had a bandage round his knee and was clearly not yet fit. Briggs continues to be rested which is sensible. He will have a big part to play next season. Weston Saint Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 (edited) At least we have Somerset at 81/4 but Hildreth still there. He is the danger. But he has now gone 82/5 Edited 31 August, 2011 by Weston Saint

stevegrant Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 And now the lunch break for them to regroup Difficult to get too excited until we've had a bat on that wicket, really. It's only their batting that's been depleted by injuries and England call-ups, not their bowling.
Weston Saint Posted 31 August, 2011 Share Posted 31 August, 2011 Well they did regroup a bit and reached 204 but putting that into context Hants 124/1 at the close
Weston Saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 At Lunch 2nd day 226/1 a lead of 22 with both Adams & Carberry making centuries This is the good news....now the bad Lancs are 37/3 in their second innings still 39 behind Worcester and Warwickshire are 55/2 in their first innings - Yorkshire
Weston Saint Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 313/1 in 91 overs BUT Worcestershire have just beaten Lancashire by 10 wickets and pick up 19 points. Our recent fightback looks to be in vain.
Lets B Avenue Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 New Hampshire 2nd wicket partnership record. 323 beating previous of 320 set in 1920. We might be carp, but this is the 2nd record set in a month.

Trader Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 Did they actually get that last batting bonus point? Must have been close and probably caused the mini collapse I suppose.
wadesmith Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 Worcester have won, sussex not doing too well so we could end up reeling them in, I think we've gotta win the last 3 games, pretty tough, but it's been a good end to season. Mascherenas such a great player, always pops up with wickets. Over 400 for Hants at an average of 28. Really underated, do not how much longer he can go on for though. stevegrant Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 Did they actually get that last batting bonus point? Must have been close and probably caused the mini collapse I suppose. No, missed out by 5 runs. Suspect if Carberry hadn't got out in the first over after tea we'd have probably made it, but with a new man at the crease it was always going to be tougher. Still, the 16 points available for the win are much more attractive than the one additional batting bonus point, and we've almost certainly batted them out of a win they really need. Weston Saint Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Now 602-8 and a lead of 398. Adams said he wanted a lead somewhere near 400 so a declaration should not be far away. Make that 602 for

bungle Posted 2 September, 2011 Share Posted 2 September, 2011 Have been at Taunton for the last three days, for a rather good performance from Hants. The Adams/Carberry partnership wasn't chanceless, in particular two big caught behind shouts for Adams off Kirby, but there was some really good batting and they never tried to force anything, which is what got them through. McKenzie got a cracking delivery, Vince went trying to get the bonus point, Ervine was excellent and unfortunately seemed to get a really good ball from Willougby. Bowlers all done well. For me, especially if we go down, would rather see Tomlinson, Wood, Griffiths and Balcombe forming basis of next year's attack. Shame we couldn't finish it off today, but Mascarenhas had a fantastic little battle with Meschde at the end - at one point he had 4 slips and 3 gullys in place! - and deserved that wicket. Weston Saint Posted 3 September, 2011 Share Posted 3 September, 2011 Good win to keep our hopes alive. Tahir has played his last game for us. As he is centrally contracted to South Africa and they have called him up for pre season training. Thanks Immi, what a nice guy and not a bad bowler too! chrisobee Posted 3 September, 2011 Share Posted 3 September, 2011 My starting 11 (some difficult choices to get it down to 11) Adams Carberry Katich (if he is our overseas player and captain) McKenzie (if we can afford to offer him a contract) Vince Ervine or Dawson or Howell Mascarenhas Wood Bates Briggs Tomlinson Griffiths Is that why you selected twelve I would certainly play Ervine even if his bowling is pretty useless these days! His batting/fielding are enough. It would be useful if Pothas was around for at least one more season, same with McKenzie.
wadesmith Posted 3 September, 2011 Share Posted 3 September, 2011 If we hadn't been deducted 8 points for a game that would have lasted 4 days & Worcester had been deductet 8 points for a game that lasted a day and 3/4s then there would be 3 points between us. What a ****ing joke.
Dark Munster Posted 4 September, 2011 Share Posted 4 September, 2011 If we hadn't been deducted 8 points for a game that would have lasted 4 days & Worcester had been deductet 8 points for a game that lasted a day and 3/4s then there would be 3 points between us. What a ****ing joke. Still a real possibility of relegation by a margin of 8 points or less. Actually, going down and finishing below Worcestershire by a margin of less than 16 points would be bad enough. No chance of a late appeal I suppose? stevegrant Posted 9 September, 2011 Share Posted 9 September, 2011 Realistically, I don't think a win's going to be possible at this stage, unless we can get 100 in front and then bowl them out cheaply second time around. I'd take a draw from this one with plenty of bonus points, with Sussex beating Worcestershire. Then we'd be around 13-15 points behind them going into the last game. If we then beat Warwickshire and they lose to Durham, as long as we at least match them on bonus points, we stay up
Window Cleaner Posted 9 September, 2011 Share Posted 9 September, 2011 Can we win this one - it will be a tall order. I rather think not, possible when we had them at 120 odd for 5, then we allowed the tail to wag as usual.
stevegrant Posted 9 September, 2011 Share Posted 9 September, 2011 381 all out in the end, a deficit of just 7 runs. A decent effort in the end, and just think, if we'd taken the chances we had when Chapple was in, we'd probably have a decent lead now.

wadesmith Posted 10 September, 2011 Share Posted 10 September, 2011 It is now! Yeah not looking good, we could squeak it but, we would probably have to get max points and hope Worcester go into melt-down. I think we deserve to go down. I think we have the lowest bonus points in the league which is normally a pretty good indication of how things have gone in a season. cork has got the spanish archer today, and in retrospect making him captain in the Championship msy not have been the best decision we ever made, but he's been pretty good for three years. Dellman Posted 11 September, 2011 Share Posted 11 September, 2011 Why is Jimmy Adams for ever overlooked for the captaincy? He has played under Warne, Crawley, Pothas, Dimi and Cork and the only three matches we have won this season he was captain, why are we looking for another declining Aussie?
