The 1885 badge is rubbish, what has the fu#king queen got to do with SFC.

We are the last club she presented with the FA Cup. I think it's important that we recognise that in of badge, or crest as I prefer to call it.

My opinion, for what it's worth, and at the risk of being ridiculed for having an opinion, is that we should revert back to the previous crest. It may have been the club crest for 'only'30% of the clubs history, but it's been the crest for 100% of my supporting history. (which started in 1976, yes after the cup final, I was an 8 year old glory boy).

This and the kit thread are like the annual first shop to put up Christmas displays/bonfire night warnings stories on the news. Same lines, same arguments, same people every year - a little more interesting though when a half decent design is put forward

You're not wrong there. It's as predictable as Alpine's panicking that we haven't signed anyone 11 seconds after the last ball of the season is kicked.

FWIW I absolutely hate the black badges above, quite like Gecko's one, still think the 125th anniversary badge was a missed opportunity and prefer the Saints badge of the last 15 years or so (without the superfluous surrounding white shield we had on the shirt circa 2004/6).

I don't think we need to change it, almost all club rebranding exercises - with the exception of Manchester United's subtle removal of the words "Football Club" from their badge IMHO - are horrendous. Even the Anniversary tweak made the badge look like it was for Comic relief. Those Swindon efforts are all hideous, without fail - it's no wonder they keep changing theirs. The new Coventry badge is pointlessly bland gash too.

+1

I don't like the crinkly background, it looks stupid.

That's a sneak preview of the new range of grey corduroy tracksuit bottoms available next year.

Our badge is fantastic and I would be horrified to see it change. It would be one of the most recognizable badges in football and in my opinion is bloody great. Over the years I have seen so much happen while wearing that badge and it looks great on our players kits.

This. IMO of course.

We should keep the 125 badge but have a sort of graffiti style spray crossing out the 125 and replacing it with 126. I think the graffiti style spraying with attract more youngsters to the club and get us some big crowds in the Championship (should we go up). Another idea is to replace the "Southampton FC" with "Saintz", again in graffiti style. I think the kids like it when they see a "z" on the end of words and this would make us even more cool.

What percentage of the years that Saints have been in existence has adding a z to the end of words been considered cool? I think it's important we know this before rushing into this Saintz proposal.

I think the crown has something to do with the county of Hampshire rather than directly with the Queen.

Thats right the old Southampton black badge contain the symbols of Hampshire, the Tudor Rose and Crown, but these are the symbols of the monarchy and in my opinion shouldn't be on our football clubs badge. We have no connection with them, apart form the Queen being forced to present the cup to us, she has probably forgot we even exist.

Most non-saints fans I've encountered think the badge is pants...

But it is one of the most recognisible in the whole of football.

Plus, If we changed it I'd have to get rid of my Duvet Cover... and my girlfriend would hate that...

I'd like one that shows the Titanic Rising out of the Atlantic to a glorious new era with Spitfires flying out of the Bargate while the QE2 scores the winning goal in the 1976 cup final.

Edit: Can anyone good with photoshop please knock out a quick version of that so I can rub one out to it on Saturday?

I'm caught between amused and sickened...

The existing badge is fine, I like it. Add a nice red and white kit and we have just what's needed for next season. So much change recently I'd appreciate some kit/badge stability, if you please.

Always hated the recent badge, particularly the scarf. Much preferred the one before. (Roses?)

I quite like the shield bit but agree that the scarf looks naff! I would lose the ball, halo, scarf and writing and just have the shield with the tree, water and rose/mayflower and then underneath in a decent font, have "The Saints" (straight, not on a curve).

You need something simple like our (Bompey) 'head coming from nowhere'.

What about the stick man from 'The Saint' with a scarf round him? Coooooooool!!

Re the current (excluding 10-11) badge, I was told by a company called graphic workshop in town that they were asked by Lowe to "tweak it" about eight years ago by changing the design of the ball, tree and scaff, in return their remuneration was three season tickets for ten years.

Nooooooooooo don't change the badge. I had it tattooed on my upper right arm

in Zacs whilst legless just after the 76 cup final....gets few strange looks

these days as I am very respectable now !

I think we should give the artist who made the first Ted Bates statue another chance, but this time with the design of the badge.

I'm not sure using a lump of randomly shaped bronze on the kit would assist performance.

The City of Southampton's heraldic achievement (coat of arms) is actually quite distinct because of the double compartment (sea and land). I would love to see the shield of the arms i.e. the roses on a red and white shield as the club's crest.

So which is correct, 2 red roses on white or 2 white ones on red?

Have often wondered the same. Either way that is a rather complex crest to spray on a roadsign along the A34 near Newbury(or M27 !)

From the council website so will assume this is correct. White/silver/grey are all interchangeable in heraldry.

That is a pretty dangerous assumption to make.
