NickG Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Nigel Adkins said it was a 'judgement call' to leave Adam Lallana out of the side on Saturday. The manager rested the midfielder for the 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers, and believes it will give Lallana a better chance of featuring in the last five games of the campaign. "It's been one of those where he has a little niggle in the groin area, it's not a full tear in there, but there is obviously something going on in there,"
NickG Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Lee Barnard meanwhile, is now recovering at home after he was stretchered off with an injury in the second half and will be assessed again later on in the week by the Saints medical staff.
farawaysaint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Lee Barnard meanwhile, is now recovering at home after he was stretchered off with an injury in the second half and will be assessed again later on in the week by the Saints medical staff. Balls, just balls... A strike force of Lambert and Forte for Brighton?
Dalek2003 Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Balls, just balls... A strike force of Lambert and Forte for Brighton? With Connolly coming on in the second half if things not going well.

Suerly if its is a break or a major ligament injury they wouldnt ned to assess it later in the week?
Toomer Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Balls, just balls... A strike force of Lambert and Forte for Brighton? He could go with Lambert and Gin Gang up front.
warsash saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Suerly if its is a break or a major ligament injury they wouldnt ned to assess it later in the week? Waiting for swelling to go down ??
SaintNeil90 Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Suerly if its is a break or a major ligament injury they wouldnt ned to assess it later in the week? Dont fall for it. They know exactly what injury he has and how long he will be out for. They use this whole 'they will be assessed' to keep other teams guessing.
SaintNeil90 Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Waiting for swelling to go down ?? He has had an X-ray already so they will have an idea what it is without the swelling going down.
Gemmel Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Suerly if its is a break or a major ligament injury they wouldnt ned to assess it later in the week? He was coming back down hill lane at 6.00pm on Saturday night, so he was done and dusted at the hospital within 45 mins. He can't be that serious, but that doesn't mean he will be able to play on Saturday or this season.
alpine_saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I reckon Barnard might make it back for Walsall and Plymouth. just a gut feeling. I also reckon from the comments that Lallana wont be risked at Brighton if it can be avoided (Huddersfield fail to win at MKD)
The Kraken Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I reckon Barnard might make it back for Walsall and Plymouth. just a gut feeling. I also reckon from the comments that Lallana wont be risked at Brighton if it can be avoided (Huddersfield fail to win at MKD) Having seen just how much pain he was in when stretchered off I would be enormously surprised if this were to happen. I'd m very happy to be proven wrong though. And I think if ever there's a time to get at Brighton, it's this weekend. Which I why I suspect Adkins will play Lallana if he proves his fitness.

To add to this Barnard is not the sort of player that stays down if he is not hurt just to make a meal of it.
Viking Warrior Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 With ankle injuries the medics tend to wait for 48 hours before further examination due to the amount of swelling bruising etc. once this subsides then it is more easily to detect a ligament tear or hairline crack . I know I was that soldier. It was 72 hrs later when my crack and torn ligaments to the ankle were confirmed. bloody painful injury. i was made to non weight bear for 48 hrs. Was LB on crutches when he was seen in hill lane by any chance.
Colbury Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Was LB on crutches when he was seen in hill lane by any chance. Probably will be a difficult one to confirm. I would hazzard a guess that LB wasnt made to walk back down hill lane to the stadium after his hospital visit.
Dalek2003 Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I don't know. In the old days the trainer would run on with the 'magic spongue' and the player would be up in no time and back on with the game. You had to be 'hard' in them days, hard players, hard fans, hard days !
70's Mike Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 play just Lambert up front and frustrate Brighton like they did us, we have no duty to entertain , they bored me to sleep at SMS
Saint Billy Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Waiting for swelling to go down ?? Lucky him for getting one!, I rarely manage it these days.
NickG Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Remember that Barnard couldn't get a game when Guly was starting up front and only got his chance when Guly was injured. Lambert with Guly or Forte or Connolly not bad options. Lallana is by far bigger miss but hopefully have him now for rest of the season
Turkish Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Johnno Quick is the man to start up front against Brighton, with his lightening pace and incredible strength he'll pressure the Brighton defence and keeper into doing something with the ball rather than tapping it between themselves like they do, this will lead to mistakes which he'll exploit with his Johnno Quick pace. He's done everything that can be asked of him since he's been at this fantastic football club and our Nige will ask him to step up the ocky again on saturday and once again Jonno Quick will deliver.

Turkish Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 In you we trust Turkish! In Johnno Quick i trust, Nige was right, a goal ratio of 2 goasl per start is a phenominal record at any level.
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Play 4-4-1-1 with ging gang just behind Lambert ?? Either that or as you say play perhaps a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. Just no more of the f*cking diamond.
View From The Top Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Play the diamond against Brighton and we'll get ripped a new @rsehole.
um pahars Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Play the diamond against Brighton and we'll get ripped a new @rsehole. Hopefully Adkins will have learnt his lesson!!! Personally I'd look to shore up the midfield as it was very weak on Saturday. Get Guly out of there and upfront.

Get Guly out of there and upfront. yeah, put him upfront. I would put Chaplow back in, he might be off form but he does get stuck in.
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Davis Richardson Jaidi Fonte Dickson Chaplow Stephens Hammond Lallana Guly Lambert Swap Lallana for N'Guessan if necessary.
sfc4prem Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I have a scary feeling that Nigel will still try the diamond....
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I have a scary feeling that Nigel will still try the diamond.... Surely not. Surely he has learnt his lesson by now ??
Saint Charlie Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Brighton pretty much play a diamond so he might opt to match them.
um pahars Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Davis Richardson Jaidi Fonte Dickson Chaplow Stephens Hammond Lallana Guly Lambert Swap Lallana for N'Guessan if necessary. Lallana might be a step too far, but happy to go with what the physio/doctor and manager think. If he is a risk then I would put Richardson in at Right Midfield (along with Stephens, Chaplow & Hammond). Stephens hasn't impressed me, but not sure what else we have got as I'm not convinced Gobern is the man.
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Unfortunately we have managed to find injuries and players off form at exactly the wrong time !!!
