revolution saint Posted 17 April, 2011 Share Posted 17 April, 2011 I'll confess I thought this was a complete mismatch when it was announced and I still think that Khan will beat McCloskey every day but McCloskey can feel justifiably upset at the decision to stop the fight. Not that I'm complaining - I picked up £66 on a six round Khan win but I was very, very lucky.....
sambosa75 Posted 17 April, 2011 Share Posted 17 April, 2011 Yeah I thought Khan was comfortable outpointing and outworking McCloskey but his attacks didnt seem to be causing McCloskey too much trouble whereas the few times McCloskey landed with anything solid it did seem to rattle Khan. There is no doubt Amir has improved considerably under Freddie Roach and through sparring with Pacquiao but that chin of his is still very, very vulnerable and against a more seasoned fighter who is capable of banging and defending themselves he will come up short. AndyNorthernSaints Posted 17 April, 2011 Share Posted 17 April, 2011 The stoppage was a joke. The corner never got a chance to work on the cut. Bit like the Barrera fight an unsatisfactory win. Khan would get some more respect if he offered a rematch, which he wont as he's always avoided certain fighters who make him look bad. Avoided John Murray in the early days and never went via british and european titles etc. McCloskey might have lost every round but it only takes one punch to change a fight. A bad night for boxing. revolution saint Posted 17 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 17 April, 2011 When you compare the Morales V Maidana fight last week and the state of Morales eye after the first round and how close he came (in fact many thought he had won) then the decision to stop the fight was a joke. I still think Khan would have won but we'll never know now. FWIW I think Khan may need to move up a weight - even at 140 he's looking too big for that division and could be giving him problems making the weight. Agree Khan did look big for weight and McCloskey said he thought Khan was puffing/tiring due to making the weight and it was his plan to take advantage in later rounds. Didn't notice too much of Khan tiring but we will never know. Maybe he took McCloskey too lightly or struggled making weight. Maybe Sky knew McLoskey's style would make Khan look bad. Think other fighters will avoid McCloskey now and he will be stuck at European title level.
