There's lots of them going around here. Wife and daughter have both had one in the past month.

Go to the doc, get anti-biotics. You will fell better in 3-4 days but finish the course of anti-biotics (7-10 days) or it will come back. Oh, and no alcohol whilst taking them.

Or stop whinging and keep drinking.

Top idea for a thread! A place to get info on ailments for those who are seldom, if ever, ill. This one could run and run.

I also very rarely get ill. Last sick day I took off work was in November 2004. How about you TheDellDays?

I just found out today that I broke my toe a month ago, and I still can't bend it. Anyone know how long it takes to heel, I mean heal [lol!!!!!11!!!]?

It's probably too late to do anything about your toe. If it's a small toe it's unlikely anything would have been done anyway but if it's your big toe then it should have been straightened and splinted straight away.

In years to come, you'll probably have arthritis in the joint. Take it from one who knows (broke mine doing pointe work as a dancer - never been able to bend it properly since).

But it might be worth a trip to the doctor.

I broke my middle toe a while ago. They splinted it (strapped it to another toe) but didn't straighten it. Do I have a life of pain to look forward to? Or is there a way of avoiding delldays' posts?

Chain smoke 20 of these, that'll sort you out.

thedelldays, what's the deal with smoking on the submarine? Do you have to go up on deck when it surfaces? Can you ask to surface so you can all go for a fag? And do you have to smoke it "sailor style", in between your thumb and forefinger and with your hand over the cigarette? Do they train you to do it that way?

:D :D

Seriously, it's the big toe that causes the most problems (the hallux) as this is the one that takes the most stress when, for example, walking, as it does most of the bending.

Re TDD's posts. Look at this way. If you've ever had a toothache, it sometimes helped if you hurt yourself somewhere else to detract from the pain.

Get my drift?

professional dancers are usually very attractive indeed, apart from their feet, which are invariably hideous. BTF's post would seem to explain this anomaly.

and Jamie, get to the quack pronto and get some medications. Dont take any chances with your chest area, if youre coughing and wheezing you need looking at by a pro, and I dont mean the st marys type

There's a nasty cough doing the rounds. It will gradually clear up but it will be quicker if you spend a couple of months relaxing somewhere warm and sunny. :)

Strangely. I haven't had a nasty cough in years.....

Although my mate's wife back in Blighty had a chest infection and she left it and left it, eventually after about 2 months and different doses of anti-biotics it went away.

So moral of the story, as per Hammy's friend, go to the quack get the meds or move

If it doesn't clear up with anti-biotics then go back to the doctor as i was treated for 4 months with a chest infection which actually turned out to be a double pneumonia which nearly killed me, i ended up spending 18 days in hospital over Christmas in QA. Not fun.

NHS direct is rubbish compared to this forum. They are seldom wrong in advising on the worst case scenario.

Dd get it checked out mate, your country needs you and somdo we.

And mrs b, can you still do

Pointe? Can you do the splits?

Oh you cheeky boy H :D

No I can't do pointe work but I don't really need to these days, surprisingly. But I CAN still do the splits, even at my great age and I can still 'shoulder my leg'. Both these attributes are quite useful in everyday life I find ;)

Not strictly true Minsk, only if the anti biotics specifically say no alcohol. Old wives tale.

Yep had a cold back in September which turned into a cough (which was really a chest infection) and constant wheezing. Don't spend weeks living with it and go to the doctor's.

However if you're lucky you may get a doctor who says its nothing and prescribe you an inhaler. So naturally I leave it as that until I play football in a bitter October night and my chest hurts with every breath. Go to the doctors' the next day thinking its a pulled muscle but actually I have a chest infection. In fact a second doctor comes in and advises I get x-rayed as a percaution and get prescribed a round of antibiotics. And what happens? Chest infection resides over a couple of weeks.

Moral of the story - always insist on a second opinion at the doctors' when the first one you see uses their stethoscope over the top of your shirt AND jumper to check your breathing and says you are fine.

Alcohol is a diuretic so if you want the antibiotics to work effectively you don't want to be ****ing them down the toilet.

That's as maybe Whitely Grandad, but GenevaSaint's advice is on the money for me.

The urban myth around not mixing drinking and antibiotics was apparently spread by pox (STD) doctors who felt that if they told their infected patients not to drink whilst they "had a few passengers aboard" it would mean that they were less likely to go out and get pished and infect someone else.

As with all drugs (well not ALL drugs) read the instructions.

As for the OP - I'd look into an allergy too.

A couple of years back I had a cough that lasted 6 weeks. Went to the doc and it turned out I had developed "late onset asthma". I had been planing down a set of wooden table and chairs in my garden without a mask and the dust from the wood shavings had set off a reaction.

I was still playing football at the time and I couldn't run more than 10 feet without coughing my guts up. He gave me an asthma puffer and it's all under control now.

Thedelldays, are you coughing 'stuff' up - phlegmy-type stuff?

If not then it could be an allergy.

Very true. Google your meds and some llike Amoxicyllohwhatever work just fine

But some make you vomit more than a bulemic at just the smell of booze.

Not being a bulemist there, just making a point from experience, honest
