Very good.

The great thing about the Dell was the crowd was so close to the pitch. While I like St Marys, I always think they put too much dead space between the pitch and the stands, you could almost get a running track along the sides.

Perfect.

What a team Arsenal had that day, and it could have ended so badly, just look at what we did to Maine Road, but no, coming from behind twice, and then Le Tissier and magic and the perfect send off for a stadium with so many magnificent memories.

Magnificent memory...

Reminded me of why I used to really like Kachloul so much too!

And Gary Monk at right back!

I was a big fan of Kachloul too. He had many attributes including a great workrate and good spirit and as demonstrated here, a good eye for goal.

I still remember that match well and the emotion that was genererated by the MLT goal and it's good to be reminded of it.

Thanks - that was great to see.

Agree, I really wish I'd been to the Dell :( sadly when I moved to Bournemouth I went to see them a few times before I decided to venture over to see Saints. It was the first season at St Mary's by that time.

Latviasmichealowen is a member on here. Check his other vids on youtube, there's alot of good'uns.

Indeed, I noticed these vids on youtube the other day, he's put some great matches up. Dellhurst is on there, the 3-3 at Old Trafford, to name but two.

Matt le Tissier dream maker, will we ever see the likes of him again? Its not knowing the answer to that that keeps you watching the Saints. I know its a different world and aLL that, but why oh why cant he be involved with the club in some capacity?

I was the one who pm'd him to tell him to put that one on youtube :)

Unreal to this day that Matty scored the last goal. f00king legend.

Indeed you did!

That is what I remember more than anything from that game. I was what....11 or so and had been to a load of games. But I realised that day how much SFC (and MLT)meant to people when I saw more than a couple of grown blokes with tears in their eyes. 'twas awesome.

What made that goal remarkable was that Matt had his back to the goal when he took the shot. I remember e-mailing the BBC becasue they had already had the Goal of the Season competition before that game was played, so Matt's goal wasn't included and they had the nerve to come back saying they didn't think it would have changed the competition result if it had been included. Still typical of BBC producers - never to admit when they get something wrong.

What an emotional clip that is. I can still remember Jeff Stelling on Soccer Saturday commenting when Le-Tiss came on 8-mins to go what price Matt scoring the winner, and in his own inimitable way shouting 3-2 Saints surely the winner & only one person could have scored it you guessed it! Fabulous you just couldn't have written a better more fitting end for the old Girl

I don't remember making you cry before..... oh hold on....was that you? ;)

There is a come back to that but I will refrain from making it as this is a family forum.;);):)

I agree, iirc the spec for having international matches was the reason for the crowd being so far away.

Such great memories of this day.

I was 13 at the time and had been a STH for about 7-8 years. I hadn't been to many away games so only really knew The Dell, and had always watched a team that included MLT. Little did I know at the time how much I took both for granted.

My best memory of the day was being at the front of the west stand next to the photographers pen in the corner from 85 minutes onwards, hoping to get a good view of the lap of honour. Saw the ball go forward and then a shot end up in the back of the net. I had no idea it was Matty that scored but got bundled over the wall. I ran towards the Archers and at the same time someone from the Archers came running towards me, we shared a flying hug by the corner flag.

I managed to get back into the front of the west stand and it felt like I was there for about 10 seconds before the final whistle went and I was back on the pitch again.

A great day. I wish I was a bit older so I could have taken more of it in, but glad I still got to experience The Dell.

Gave me goosebumps seeing it again.

Fitting end. Was the only time I didn't want Saints to score again, nearly started cheering when Chris Marsden's effort was tipped over. It used to said about Ian Botham that he wrote his own headlines, well Matt did that day. He's proberly the only player I've ever seen who could have an injury hit season without a goal, and then pop one in like that in the last few minutes.

Would love to see a clip of that!

I can't remember much about the game (probably a few too many beforehand) except for the Archers having twice it's normal attendance and that goal from Matt. Oh and the pitch invasion. Happy days - I miss the Dell.

i still remember listening to that game on the radio , as soon as MLT came on i said to my (then) husband, "he's gonna score the winner, it's written in the stars".....

and so it was......

Brilliant to watch that and re-live that day....have gone all glassy-eyed just thinking about it...Thanks NS!! :-)

I've got the mp3 of the solent commentary if anybody wants it. It occasionally pops up on the radio in the car from the ipod and it always lifts the heart.

As I posted on here 3 posts ago, I turned to my sister at half time and said "2-2 on 80 minutes, MLT for the winner?" and had a proper blub when it happened. Life's a bit ****e at the moment and I'm blubbing again :). At the end of the game some Oz girl had her photo taken with me and my sister in the East Stand and when I mentioned this on the saintslist at the time her brother (who was a member) said he had a copy of that photo - never got one. If you're on here, I'd love a copy.

Miss the Dell as well, loved that old place.

It'll be 10 years at St Mary's this August, incredible. I miss everything about the Dell but St Mary's does feel very much like home now.

Is there any way you could put the mp3 on youtube or something?

Could you send it to me please? I don't really want to stick my email up here though.
