would it be cheaper and quicker without picture?

Could have option 1 - saints flag with his name, but then approach Nicola and say we would like to add his image (ML's) and would they help with cost of image, extra cost and maybe logistics?

Maybe someone can draw a picture of him? That way you wouldn't have to pay the fees that these photo agencies charge. Ponty is quite a good artist, although he mostly does nudes. I suppose Ponty could do the picture than someone else could draw the clothes? Can anyone here draw clothes?

All you need is an image on a white background. That way you can convert it to a vector with a programme like illustrator. It's probably a better way of doing it anyway since a large photo is going to look rubbish.

yes but the image still needs to be of a decent resolution or it will look even worse!

No it shouldn't. We haven't won it. I think a tasteful flag is alright.

WIFM doesn't mean we have already 'won it'...

I just like it as a concept.

I'd happily contribute. WIFM should be incorporated.

just googled "WIFM" and its an acronym for the selfish view of "What's in It For Me". Talks about customers not caring about a company just how they can benefit from the product!

Totally wrong to use that.

Only couple of dozen people on here would know what it means, ,most will think WTF does that mean.

As said before, personally think it sounds really naff anyway.

If it helps anyone I've made this image in Illustrator. As the original is a vector image it doesn't have a resolution, so could be used in a large format.

Wrong

that is WIIFM or W2FM as a play on US radio stations.

Very common use in large multinationals

Good work ROO.

As it is looking unlikely that this will become a reality this season, due to time and resource constraints, why not do something a little easier?

How about every one prints off a few of these (if ROO uploads an A4 vector), and take them to the game, as a small but noticable mark of respect. As we see with 'red card' campaigns (to remove chairmen) and the mancs green and gold campaign, and also our occasional wall of red and white stripes at SMS, the more people do it, the more effect it has.

A few thousand ML posters waving around to 'Glory Glory Markus Leibherr' would look alright. Then we could all club together and get a decent flag, concourse memorial, exterior stadium murals sorted for next season when there is less pressure on organisers, contributors and supporters.

Perhaps on the 62nd minute, or 18:85, or whenever the Northam decides to get things going!

Boxes/reams of paper cost very little (compared to £££K's for flags!) if somebody were to attempt a massive print job.

That is merely a suggestion and I mean absolutely no offence to anyone who has been researching and making enquiries.

If someone (Justmike!) is going ahead with a flag, I will gladly contrinute!

GGML!

can anyone sum up if anything is going to happen..or we just talking about it..?

Pretty sure people have been trying Delldays, but the costs they've been quoted seem way OTT to me and (i'm assuming) most others.

To cut down on costs and make this work within the timescale, we could:

1. Get a number of people to make a section of the flag each, on a specific but reasonable size. Some could draw it or paint it on; the more creative could knit theirs.

2. Rather than trying to get a massive flag, why don't we get a really, really small flag? We could try for the smallest flag in the world record (this would also get some press attention). Smallest, biggest... they are all superlatives.

3. Someone could upload a PDF mask of Markus' face and members could print it in colour and cut it out and wear it to the game.

4. I haven't thought of a 4th idea yet.

5. Do a flashmob on the 62nd minute, where the entire stadium stands up, and I mean EVERYONE, holds up their scarf/shirt/hat/programme/something red and sings the "Glory, Glory Markus Liebherr" song. This information could be disseminated by passing a note around the stadium along each of the rows.

Had a reply back from the guys at Sunderland FC, they paid £2000 (ex VAT) for their first effort so will be contacting the company they used.

Still heard nothing more from the club, despite another email sent yesterday.

As for the image and the vector etc etc. Surely we still need permission to use an image they (Getty) own?

I would have thought so, as if this image is copyrighted you'd probably need permission to initially download it to then amend it anyway? Not that it's stopped anyone up to now!

Good work so far Mike.

it's a good picture, but am I the only one thinking his 2 fingers look just like a penis??

(allbeit a short and stumpy one)..

Yes I think we should do something at 18mins 85seconds like holepuncture says.

Something like this would be decent and hopefully easy to organise. Man City's 'backs to the action' is quite visually impressive.

I think their "poznan" is utterly embarrassing personally.

Is it not possible that having got wind of the plans, that the club intends to honour Markus in a way similar to the way we did last season at Wembley..

Another reply from Flying colours.

Not going to be cheap, anyway you look at it.

Apologies in the delay in replying – just a tad hectic at the moment!

A digitally printed banner measuring 20m x 15m would be £6400.00 each + Carriage and VAT.

This would be digitally printed onto our MoD approved knitted polyester flag fabric, and would be printed mirror image thru to the reverse.

Also, on a banner of this size there will be several joins in the makeup of it, probably 5.
