Nexstar Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 'Thanks You Markus' was probably more relevant back when he took us over. 'Win It For Markus' may have been more apt back in Augut following his death. By the Walsall game our season looks to be decided, play-offs or promotion. 'Markus Liebherr, Forever a Saint' is best IMO

Avenue Saint Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 I'd chip in for a "forever a saint" flag Serves two purposes, shows our appreciation and also appeals to the family sentiments which could be crucial in any decision for them going forward! Great idea
Nexstar Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 I really like that, great effect. The club could still do the cards on seats as they did for Bally iirc. Anyone worked out a rough cost yet, it needs to be massive IMO, really massive. And what happens when it gets round to the warsaw fans? Agree that is should be VERY big. Could be passed round the stands just before kick-off and then draped somewhere.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 It's going to have to be decided and ordered pretty soon to get it in time for the Walsall game I should imagine?
The Hoff Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Agree with this. Forever a Saint gets my vote on what ever flag we all agree on. 'Markus Liebherr, Forever in Your Debt'. The Hoff will jib in a few bob for a flag
Wycombe Saint Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 I will cross your palm with some silver for one of those. Has anyone emailed the club yet to see what permissions need to be granted. You could always auction the flag off afterwards to go to the Saints Foundation!

forever a red and white Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 To help the process along we could add a poll to determine most popular option, and if this turns out to be giant flag, then vote for designs.

Be really nice to have the flag tour all the new away grounds next season too.

Barnsley have a huge stand behind the goal so it'd definitely fit over seats there.. Can't think of anywhere else really.

Mr saint Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Any idea how many have been sold for this game yet? Bought my tickets yesterday (much earlier than I normally do) and couldn't get 2 tickets together in a lot of places in the ground.
hamster Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 They are selling at a rate of knots apparently. When they open 1-3 that is when they are in the last throes of a complete sell out and when the ground really rocks.
NickG Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Hearing the fans in full voice today at Brisbane Road singing in honour of Markus Liebherr, it struck me that maybe there should be a regular time slot to dedicate to him? The other week Barcelona fans dedicated the 22nd minute to applaud cancer-stricken defender Eric Abidal. Thought it was a nice touch and something similar would be nice at Saints for Markus. Maybe the 62nd minute in relation to the age he was when he passed away? Or perhaps the 8th as he saved the club on July 8? Maybe I am alone in this but thought I would put the idea forward. Why not sing it when the players have the pre match huddle? No danger of other team scoring and it may galvanise the team and crowd. two good ideas, set up atmosphere and team spirit for start of the game bump. DECROMAX Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 So is anyone going to take the job on? we need to get shifting with this , by the time the planning and time it takes to get the flag manufactured it will be tight to get it done on time. I would take it on myself but having only just signed up to the forum not many people could vouch for me.

Um Bongo Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 If it's a big flag may well be worth contacting the club......I remember when we went down, someone tried to get a huge saints shirt in for the Utd game...and it was rejected as it was a 'fire hazard'. Be a shame to spend a lot of money on something which couldnt be used! I'll chip in as well.

Be a shame to spend a lot of money on something which couldnt be used! That was that dastardly Nick Illingsworth and a few other reproabtes. It was the World's Largest Shirt that was on the pitch at St Mary's before the opening game and someone tracked it down to a warehouse in Nursling. It was draped over the old walls at one point down by the De Vere, but think you're right in that the Club poo-pooed the idea of it being above the crowd for safety reasons. If someone does decide to run with the idea of a big flag then they need to get the Club in at the earliest opportunity to help jump over the prerequisite hurdles. benjii Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Yes, if whoever is organising this wants to PM me their bank account details, address and mother's maiden name, I will send them some money for the very big flag. Only if it is very big though. Great idea and I would contribute. Perhaps one of the Tweeterers would tweet Saints or Jordan Sibley or whatever and alert them to this thread. squiggly_dan Posted 15 April, 2011 Share Posted 15 April, 2011 I'm glad people like the flag design, but it was intended as a quick idea to encourage others with actual talent to have a go! I think it may be a mistake to involve the club, as they may be obliged to say no. Not that we are an ultra group (yet!), but usually displays are done against the wishes of the club and materials are sneaked in (although if we are challenging the Penarol effort it may be difficult to sneak in between 300 people - would get caught in the turnstile!). Not sure if JustMike has already done so, but I have emailed Live Event Branding for some guideline prices. I think we should aim to create a display that can cover the entire Chapel stand: The people above and below the flag could be holding coloured squares or waving/holding scarves - the fabric stripes would be quick and easy to buy and would not be particularly complicated to display. That way we can use everything but the flag throughout the season, and create the entire display for important anniversaries only - it would otherwise lose it's impact if used all year. It would also open up the possibility of creating other flags if it proves popular with fans. We could organise collections before the Bristol & Hartlepool games, but we will need people to donate their time as well as money for this to work. Here are more ideas - somebody please give me some competition, else I might win by default!
