saint peach Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Hearing the fans in full voice today at Brisbane Road singing in honour of Markus Liebherr, it struck me that maybe there should be a regular time slot to dedicate to him? The other week Barcelona fans dedicated the 22nd minute to applaud cancer-stricken defender Eric Abidal. Thought it was a nice touch and something similar would be nice at Saints for Markus. Maybe the 62nd minute in relation to the age he was when he passed away? Or perhaps the 8th as he saved the club on July 8? Maybe I am alone in this but thought I would put the idea forward.
benjii Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 What happens if the other team scores in that minute? Think it's a bit naff TBH. Spontaneity implies sincerity IMO.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 not a bad idea but just let it happen when it happens.was good to hear it today
saintmatt Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Nice idea. I think we also need a song where his name can be more clearly heard. My suggestion? To the tune of viva Ronaldo: Markus Liebherr, Markus Liebherr, Our saviour and our King, Hear the Southampton sing, Markus Liebherr HTH
benjii Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Why does every new song have to be to the tune of Viva whatever? ****ing annoying moronic drone.
saintmatt Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Meow! As far as I'm aware, we don't have a single song to the "Viva whatever" tune! I like it as well, one of those that spreads and builds - and goes on for a while dominating any opposition chants. If you're going to have a go at songs, how about the "We're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen" one (and the like)? Annoying and moronic (and inaccurate).
sammysaint Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 He does deserve some of our time during a match maybe before KO or after, defo dedicate last home games to sing about ML for most of the match
forever a red and white Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Was thinking a few days ago, why not use the Walsall match to really show appreaciation for Markus, maybe with some banner of flags in dedication to him in what will hopefully be a sell-out crowd?
niceandfriendly Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Was thinking a few days ago, why not use the Walsall match to really show appreaciation for Markus, maybe with some banner of flags in dedication to him in what will hopefully be a sell-out crowd? Best idea yet.

I tried to show my appreciation for Markus at the first home game following his passing. Tried to put my red on white WIFM banner above the stairwell, but got told by stewards that it could only go to the back of the stand, therefore not visible. Marvellous... Be prepared for some over zealous killjoys.

Take this issue up with Nicola Cortese - I'm sure he would be able to make sure all tributes to Markus will not be opposed, not just for one game but ANY game.
sfcuk fan Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Glory Glory Markus Leibherr would sound good This ... and the Saints go marching on, on, on ! .
niceandfriendly Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 This ... and the Saints go marching on, on, on ! . Actually, the song is rather apt hey? Liebherr really has sent us marching on. Let's get this song going.
suewhistle Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Glory Glory Markus Leibherr would sound good This ... and the Saints go marching on, on, on ! . Simple and easy to learn. Now, that's worth trying! And if anybody from the family on the day of the Walsall match would like to offer me a place in a private jet from Switzerland to Southampton I'd willingly accept! Have to be back Monday morning for teaching Monday afternoon though!
The Majestic Channon Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Markus wherever you maybe, thankyou for saving s.f.c. . Or is that too cringeworthy?
niceandfriendly Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Markus wherever you maybe, thankyou for saving s.f.c. . Or is that too cringeworthy? honestly, yes. but i've heard worse.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 9 April, 2011 Posted 9 April, 2011 Our Markus Liebherr, Our Markus Liebherr, You made us happy, When skies were grey, You never noticed, How much we love you, until you took, our Markus, Awaaaaay. (Repeat)
Asaint4ever Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 I think on the last game at home just sing his name through the whole game? Thoughts?

paulwantsapint Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 glory glory markus liebherr and the saints go marching on on on will sound great
Fowllyd Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Let's not get ahead of ourselves here - we should wait to find out what Turkish thinks before trying to start any songs or chants.
iansums Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Our Markus Liebherr, Our Markus Liebherr, You made us happy, When skies were grey, You never noticed, How much we love you, until you took, our Markus, Awaaaaay. (Repeat) Like this
forever a red and white Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Why don't we make this a Sticky, keep it in focus, and then can share ideas, there is plenty of time to plan anything being made or contacting the club about. The glory glory song is great idea too.
Pip Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Why not sing it when the players have the pre match huddle? No danger of other team scoring and it may galvanise the team and crowd.
NickG Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 why not sing it when the players have the pre match huddle? No danger of other team scoring and it may galvanise the team and crowd. sounds good

forever a red and white Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 (edited) Part of another thread but... The Walsall game looks set to be a sell out crowd as the last game of the season, and hopefully we'll have something to celebrate on the day. The Leyton Orient game was a bit of a let down so the Walsall game is the perfect opportunity to pay a proper tribute to the man who saved our club: Someone put forward the idea of getting Swiss flags in: http://www.theflagshop.co.uk/switzerland-flag-231-p.asp or ebay is also an obvious place. Saint-clark has found Swiss flags for £3.00 on amazon. For those with a more expensive budget: http://www.cultzeros.co.uk/southampton.asp?pg=6. Liebherr t-shirts can be found here. If as a collective group, we raised money through the forum and paypal could do a massive flag: http://www.barmyflags.co.uk/flagdesigner.php Anyway thought a sticky would be a great place to generate ideas. This video is from Liebhher's first game at sms, found on youtube: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Song Suggesstions so far: Glory Glory Markus Liebherr and the Saints Go Marching On On On! and Win It For Markus (repeat) Edited 14 April, 2011 by forever a red and white

I want to hear that every game from now on... good thread, I'm sure the club would like to get involved in anyway they can also.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 Glory Glory Markus Liebherr Glory Glory Markus Liebherr Glory Glory Markus Liebherr and the Saints go marching ON ON ON!!! I want to hear that every game from now on... good thread, I'm sure the club would like to get involved in anyway they can also. This plus SMS decked in red and white, whether it's sash or stripes.
Gemmel Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 I'm sure the club would like to get involved in anyway they can also. The club shouldn't be involved, if it is a gesture from the fans.
Saint_Mabes Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 Looking at that link - Think a black Liebherr image on a red t-shirt would look great!
mitch01 Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 I prefer those songs to the 'Liebherr wonderland' song, it will be easier to hear what we are singing about. Should be sung every game in my opinion.

DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 What's there to photoshop ? It's Markus on a flag. Nice and easy for you then lol
70's Mike Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 Big problem is that i expect us to have to win that game to ensure automatic promotion
LGTL Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 A huge Swiss flag starting in the northam and moving around the rest of the stadium pre-kickoff would be a great touch. I'm sure if a paypal fund was set up alot of people on this site would contribute towards it.
Griffo Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 Would definitely contribute for a huge flag. Barmy Flags are decent at that sort of thing.
Deppo Posted 13 April, 2011 Posted 13 April, 2011 Let's see if we can beat Penarol's effort: http://blogs.loughboroughecho.net/goaltastic/2011/04/fans-flag-covers-two-stands-of.html
