Just back from game thead

After a 5 1/2 hour trip and arriving at KO time, that was not a game to watch sober. Whilst agreeing with a lot of whats been written about formations, it still revolves around people passing to players in the same coloured shirt. This was beyond several on Tuesday.

The 2nd goal was not a repeat of Davis' near-post phobia. Hehad it covered and let it through. The same would have happened if the shot had been from the penalty spot.

Not for the first time away this season Harding was a liability. Not quite the mares he had at Carlisle and Peterborough, but he is a totally different player at home, which explains the amount of worship he gets on here sometimes. Hopefully, Dickson will get the start from now on. Richardson remains a worry. His distribution is woeful.

Agree with the Seabourne reviews. Martin must be a better bet if any change has to be made on Saturday. But as there is no midweek match, Jaidi will probably start. Stephens did OK and certainly didnt give the ball away like Chaplow has been doing of late. Needs to get closer to the front 2 when we are attacking.

Saw Nick Halling (Sky NFL and FLS) in the seats and (LOL) Granty being interviewed outside by a local web-site. What a media whore!

Had heard great things about the chippy outside the ground, so needless to say it was shut at the end of the game. Then found the M6 services packed with Plastic Mancs. My driver wouldnt let me go in as he didnt fancy bailing me out later in the morning. Got back at 2 All in all, a sh-it trip.

Not sure that I should comment here but as there's not a 'just seen the highlights" thread here you go.

I thought (from the 6 or so minutes available) that our whole back 4 looked a total liability in the first half,Rochdale could have had 5 or 6.Richardson was awful from the outset and in the move leading up to their first goal Fonte and Jaidi must be training for some local "how many can stand on a sixpence" contest.Harding obviously can't jump because of his injury and it looks like the Dale player is holding his arm anyway.Never mind because the Dale striker should have sunk the one a few minutes before when Fonte and Jaidi let him just walk through the middle of them (Kelvin saved with his legs)

He was the only one that really looked interested tonight.I was impressed with Forte, I thought he made a difference when he came on.

Davis had a shocker with the second goal, and thought he should have done better with the first (or just done something).

Harding was extremely poor, and also wasn't impressed with Stephens, although he did look promising, seemed to only want to pass backwards and seemed to spend too far leaving his man with an acre of space. Dickson, Richardson and Guly were main culprits of giving the ball away.

Didn't think we were woeful tonight, but certainly didn't look like the team which was 2nd in the league ! Also not convinced by the diamond formation, we seemed to lack width which put too much pressure on the fullbacks to get forward. But as soon as they did theis they either had the option of passing sideways into midfield, or hoofing it up to the forwards.

Richardson is very prone to giving the ball away in all games I've seen him in - a bit of a weakness imo

With respect - the perfect example of why there isn't a 'Just back from the highlights thread'!

yes, but unfortunatly we cant bring him on just for set plays. He was awful, and is clearly no good in midfield, even as the forward player in a diamond, too slow and looks uninterested for most parts.

I didnt see the rochdale game, but Guly has a knack of looking utterly disinterested and then suddenly bursting into life. Ive thought he looked good at every game ive seen him in at SMS.

It was one of those games when you just know it's not going to go for you.

I thought Guly had a good game. His inswinging corners were delivered with zip and curl and we really should have profited from them. His outswingers were not so good, keeping low and not making it into the mix. He ran a good few miles last night as well.

I have been listening to various opinions on Hammond on here so have taken to watching him more closely recently. His pass completion above 5-10 metres is very low and his first touch is wanting. His shooting is mostly wayward (Peterborough excepted). He was beaten by the bounce a number of times last night and gave the ball away for both goals. He does not cajole or encourage enough. Fonte is the real captain and should be given the armband imo.

I don't understand this system were we invite the opposition to overload us down the wings. We got away with it at Orient but not last night, both goals coming from wide areas, the first a cross and the second a shot. We rely on moments of individual class to score most of our goals and do not play as a team enough. However, we are 2nd and still have our destiny in our own hands.

I can thoroughly recommend the Broadfield Hotel for anyone who has the misfortune to have to visit Rochdale, a more desperate town I have yet to visit!

Keep the Faith.

Spot on on the Guly corners - from now on he should only deliver corners from the left flank - his outswingers were pathetic - never beat the first man. I've always been of the opinion that the best corners are inswingers, not least down to the possibility of a direct goal from one - Le Tiss and Dodd spring to mind.

If you want to visit a town more desperate than Rochdale, try Great Yarmouth in November - the only "great" thing about it is the A47 westbound.

Partly true - I have an office and warehouse in Great Yarmouth.

I only question - why just in November? It's a shythole 12 months a year!

Went there on a grim sunday in November the day after we played Norwich back in the Prem. to be fair it was a cold grey winter day, so anywhere would be grim on a day like that. However we tried to find something to do but it was all shut except one amusement arcade and a restaurant that hadn't seen a customer in a while. we decided to get the hell out of Dodge and got lunch at a Little Chef rather than eat in a place that hadn't practiced cooking in months, by the look of it.
