St Marco Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Fair play to them. They have been consistent from about the 3rd game onwards. Always play positive football and look to score goals. Only lost 2 games this year. Poyet has done very well and has quietly gone about his business. We should be playing them next year unless we seriously fook things up. Dig Dig Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 No, don't need to. Brighton, like Saints, have their place in the food chain. If Poyet continues doing as good next year it won't be long before a bigger club comes calling. If he was a Brighton boy with a bit of history with the club you would stand a better chance of keeping hold of him but he's not. he's a big name who's played at the highest level in this country. If someone like Leeds came calling he would be off tomorrow IMO. He might go yes, but you can't just proclaim it as fact like you did as it smacks of arrogance and bitterness. If someone came on here and told us that if a better offer came in to NA, he'd be off, a fair few would say he would stay as he's here for the "project". Brighton have a similar thing going to us and it may be just as tempting to see the end product. The whole debate is too hypothetical anyway. There is no way that any top 5 club would consider poyet any time soon. Which woul d leave other NPC clubs or lower end prem clubs. As south said, he is involved in all levels of the club with loads of support and backing. The other options may not sound so tempting in comparison. John McGrath's Jockstrap Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 What a pointless post !. I don't care about Brighton, and they will be laughing at us congratulating them. As for Poyet, like Adkins, like anybody in management in a winning club they will f**k off soon as soon as more money is waved in front of their faces. The only thing that matters is Saints fans getting us back into Championship. For the rest.....let's turn up Saturday and sing your hearts out for the lads......!!! darren2 Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Congrats to Brighton. totally deserve it and were the best team. Hope to be playing them next season. On a less serious notes but seems important to some, Wikipedia state "South Coast Derby: a game between Southampton and Portsmouth but may include Bournemouth or Brighton". I think the "South Coast" as opposed to the "Local" in the name makes a difference. Well done Brighton though!
scotty Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Haha, in fairness I don't think the stepping stone job is going to come up any time soon! I'd be surprised if the FA were to risk giving Bagpuss the England job and can't see a bigger club wanting him. Besides, Poyet can't lose with Brighton. They'll surely stay up, I think they'll more then hold their own and the media will put it down to amazing management rather than acknowledging the fact that Brighton actually have a lot going for them at the moment apart from a new stadium and a promising young manager. I can see your argument, but imho redknapp is already nailed on for the england job. Poyet seems like his obvious successor at spurs to me, we'll have to wait and see. sfc4prem Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Why are we congratulating those bunch of winkers? They abuse us consistently on Northstandchat, and I cannot understand why. A massive amount of them have it in for us for no reason and for that reason they aren't getting any congratulations from me for getting out of this sh*thole. A massive amount of them have it in for us for no reason and for that reason they aren't getting any congratulations from me for getting out of this sh*thole. Because not long ago they almost didn't have a club, and now they're being promoted back to the championship with a new ground and a talented young manager. If you can't see similarities then i feel sad for you. If you base your opinion on those that talk solely on the internet i feel sorry for you. But most importantly if you can't appreciate a team that fully deserve their credit then shame on you. For me it's about good grace and class, the only fillip to that is if it's the blue few, but then they're ****s and i don't want to see them do anything bar fail. sfc4prem Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 I have lots of mates that are Pompey fans. Pretty nice people, up for a bit of banter. Sad thing is i don't really hate Pompey. Don't see any need for any of the intimidating rivalry between the two clubs. I can't walk around in my Saints shirt without fear of abuse, and I live a good 12 miles from Portsmouth. Sad really. And what is even more sad is that Brighton fans feel the same sort of resentment for us as some Pompey mentalists. I don't remember any congratulation thread for Norwich last season. Why cant they just enjoy thier moment without getting wrapped up in whaqt saints fans, players and management say or do. looking at thier forums they all seem to have this hang up about saints. It seems as though nearly every other thread is either - - *****ing about something adkins has said - *****ing about saints fans supposed arrogance - whining that they arent on TV enough / getting praised for the way they play / being so far clear - trying to convince themselves that they are a huge club get over yourselves and worry about your own team coz we dont give a shyte about brighton. Eddie Lizzard Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Congratulations to Brighton. They've been consistent throughout and they clearly have a terrific and likeable manager. After all they've been through over the last few years they deserve success and the move to their new ground. When the press talk about great fans, it those like Brighton's (and ours) that stay with the club during the bad times that are the great fans not those that turn up only when times are good. Fingers crossed we will join them!
hamster Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Think i'm right in saying they win the league if they beat Walsall on Saturday? One win and yes, they are champions. Btw, two draws will not be enough as if we then win all our remaining games our goal difference will be better than theirs. If you really do think that we will get six wins and Brighton wil at best get just two draws then get down the bookies, they may lol at you but they will take your money fsure. Just like not leaving before the final whistle I too believe this is possible, especially as we could easily nick three of our required points at the ****dean. Nexstar Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Draw away at Walsall, beat us and things could get interesting. No doubt there would be a pitch invasion. But they won't beat us, so no need to worry.
Gorgiesaint Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Congratulations to Brighton who have been the best team in the division this season (much as it pains me to say it) and to Gus Poyet who has done a great job there. Let's see how they get on in their new stadium next season - many teams struggle and with a step up in division as well. They need to keep Poyet but would be interesting if he replaced Chops at Spuds, or would Chelsea even consider him as a replacement for Ancelotti? I don't see how it is arrogant or bitter to just say how it is. Brighton is a small club, Poyet is a big name with Premier League experience. If he carries on as well as he has been chances are he will be off. I actually like Brighton and am glad they are going up, purely because is would be great to have two well run, financially sound south coast clubs beating the **** out of pompey next season. Their misery amuses me.

jam Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 I can see your argument, but imho redknapp is already nailed on for the england job. Poyet seems like his obvious successor at spurs to me, we'll have to wait and see. Two things with that: firstly although Redknapp seems the obvious choice to be Capello's successor I can't see the FA touching him until the legal issues around him are thoroughly cleared up; secondly Poyet's last spell at spuds was a bit of a disaster and I don't know if that has effected his standing at WHL (or Poyet's opinion of them). That said, with Taricco involved as well there is certainly a spurs connection, even if neither could be classed as spud legends...
Fan The Flames Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 well, I simply cannot see a top 5 prem team taking a manager from a division below....it just never ever EVER happens...not when many of europes cream of the crop managers would queue up to take the hot seat.. Pep Guardiola, the only management experience was 1 year coaching the B team.
Neil Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Congratulations to Brighton. They've been phenomenal this season and fully deserve their early promotion. Got to say with the number of STs they've sold for next season they could be very competitive in the Championship. Will be good to have local derbies with them again next season. Hopefully we can beat them at the Withdean shortly, we'll need the points more than they do...
Seagull Posted 14 April, 2011 Share Posted 14 April, 2011 Thanks for the congratulations. Never expected to be in this position this season. Thought we might be able to challenge for the last couple of play-off places but this season has just been incredible. Recall thinking how very unlikely it would be that we'd be playing Championship football at the Amex. I think if you went back to just over a year ago you'd find we hardly mentioned Saints really. We had a previous dislike of Pardew from his spell at Reading when we were battling with them for the league title some years ago and Dan Harding has suffered **** loads of abuse from us over the years since saying he would sign a new contract with us and then signing for Leeds. We'd brought him up through the youth system and given him his chance and felt rather betrayed. So when we played you at Withdean last season obviously those two were in for some stick. The game was quite fiesty, which obviously gets their fans on their feet and then you had Hammond, who we actually really liked and had a good relationship with, score and run to our fans mouthing obcenities! So you then had 3 figures of hate at your club, you then supposedly made a move for Calderon which obviously ruffled feathers even further! Add you being our titles rivals this season and its all spilled over a little. When we cheer you losing though, it's not really because we hate Saints or anything, when you score was announced on Tuesday everyone cheered and began chatting about how that means we could win the title on Saturday. Our concern was us being able to win the title in the next match, not you struggling. I suspect that in the main it'll rapidly cool off in years to come (unless we continue to be competing very closely in the leagues) although they'll probably always be a little bit of *****iness. I recall in previous years discussions on our forums and some of the old timers disliked you from the 70s or something but the vast majority didnt care either way. Anyway, thanks for the congrats, I'd personally quite like to see both you and Huddersfield promoted come the end of the season.
