Liquidshokk Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Just watched their celebration video on their player site. Poyet is a weird creature isnt he lol. Seems they were pretty pleased we lost too. Fair play to them though, great season for them and showed everyone how it should be done.
Crab Lungs Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Considering they had a 'wheres the congratulations from southampton' thread thats pretty lame. Most people just take a congratulations with good heart.. Yeah, saw all that last night. Makes you wonder what exactly is there problem. Also, they accuse us of arrogance again; another favourite Bompey past time... interesting, considering some of the comments on there are some of the strange threads knocking around on there: http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?198790-Seagulls-and-Saints-Scarves http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?189699-Lee-Barnard and many others, including guard of honours for their team, Adkins threads (yes, more) etc. Many references to us being "scum", too. Lol. I really, really don't know why some of them have it in for us...
saints-cris Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Indeed Crab Lungs, I have no idea what their obsession with us is, I never knew about it til this season and I live in the area! Its cringeworthy. Considering they were 90 mins from promotion it was amazing how often they were cheering on Rochdale. Why..?
Thimble Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 I am still surprised you are even bothered about what a handful of idiots on that site actually say. red&white56 Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Congratulations to Brighton. It does show that good players can become good managers........ Still remember Poyet's first game in charge, at SMS, when they turned us over and deservedly took the 3 points off us. It's been onwards and upwards for them since then. The Pardew debacle has hurt us this season, where Poyet had a full season to turn his team into champions (almost!). Managerial stability is required if we want to progress next season

Fan The Flames Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 As someone schooled in Brighton I'm pleased to see them promoted but finding the change in footballing superiority difficult to handle with my Brighton supporting mates. We may not be an arrogant club but isn't it arrogant behaviour to slam someone for calling the SFC/BHAFC a derby, f#ck me its just short hand for a close game, lets not be all 'our hatred for Pompey is so intense we can't begin to engage in rivalry type banter with other nearby clubs', because thats a bit sad. Also isn't it a bit arrogant to suggest the CPFC/BHAFC game is of less of a derby than ours with Pompey, lets not be all 'our hatred of our local rivals is more important than yours' because that’s a bit pathetic. At the end of the day their bus was better and faster than ours, but hey their journey wont be as much fun though.

scotty Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Yep well done, Poyet must be a fabulous manager and will be Spurs manager soon Congratulations to Brighton, clearly deserved promotion, they have been consistently good this season. Even after they came to St Marys, parked the bus and timewasted from 10 minutes in, they still almost grabbed 3 points, if it hadnt have been for Kelvin saving that pen.... Two other points, I agree with all the SWF above who've said its not a derby. It takes two groups of fans to create a rivalry, and its pretty clear to me that most saints fans really couldn't give a toss about Brighton either way, our only real rivals are the skates. Second point, I tend to agree with Old Nick, theres a good chance that Poyet will decamp for spurs the moment saggychops gets the england job, in fact ive had a crafty tenner on that. He won't be going any time soon. He's pretty tied up in the PR side of things, especially the AMEX partnership. He will be there next season at least. Haha, in fairness I don't think the stepping stone job is going to come up any time soon! I'd be surprised if the FA were to risk giving Bagpuss the England job and can't see a bigger club wanting him. Besides, Poyet can't lose with Brighton. They'll surely stay up, I think they'll more then hold their own and the media will put it down to amazing management rather than acknowledging the fact that Brighton actually have a lot going for them at the moment apart from a new stadium and a promising young manager. south Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 where will he go? Since the chairman has said this morning the aim for next season is "top six", I'd imagine Poyet will stick around for a while. Interviewed last night he said he would be at the club "for a long time". The rubbish current stadium, if not the league position masks what he has been allowed to do at Brighton. He's been given the opportunity and freedom to restructure a club around his vision of how football should be prepared for and played. There are many much bigger clubs than Brighton but very very few where a manager has the opportunity to do that. The only two that spring to mind are "Mr Crewe" Dario Gardi and of course Wenger. Right club, right manager, right chairman and right time. It could have course been very different, but evidently hasn't been.

um pahars Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 More than happy to offer congratulations to Brighton and considering the terrible times their fans have had to suffer over recent years then I personally think it's great news that they are not only going up, but having a quality stadium thrown in to boot. They have been worthy winners over the full season and tying it up with quite a few games left is quite an achievement. I hope their fans enjoy the rest of the season and I bet they can't wait for next season to start. As for the rivalry, well there was most definitely a semblence of one back in the late 70's/early 80's when Portsmuff had fallen off the radar and Brighton were vying for promotion and then in the top flight together for a few years. Not a "real" rivalry, but it was definitely a game that you'd look out for (and get down to central for the Footy Special to Hove!!!!!). I'm sure some of the older heads down still there have it in for us after the perceived stitch up of 78, but not sure why the younger generation are so moody LOL. aintforever Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Know him well then? No, don't need to. Brighton, like Saints, have their place in the food chain. If Poyet continues doing as good next year it won't be long before a bigger club comes calling. If he was a Brighton boy with a bit of history with the club you would stand a better chance of keeping hold of him but he's not. he's a big name who's played at the highest level in this country. If someone like Leeds came calling he would be off tomorrow IMO.
