Now I know he's a nutter anyway, but looking on their forums, Nott's County fans seem very split on the appointment of Allen. Largely because in this interview he passes up the opportunity to pander to the fans in the usual cliched football way, which I find quite refreshing and interesting...

 

In reponse to the Journo's "Why did you really want to go to Notts?" question, instead of rolling out the answers about an ambitious club big move blah blah he basically just says 'I didn't really want to go particularly but I needed a job and a contract.'

 

Personally I think I would find football interviews much more interesting if players and managers felt they could be a bit more honest rather than just saying what they think they're meant to. I guess Strachan was the last manager we had who really did this, but even then it was generally shrouded in humour rather than blunt honesty.

 

Does anybody else wish interviews were more like this or do you think he's just setting himself up for a fall there and should fall in line with the usual way of doing these interviews Robbie Keane style (I've always had a soft spot for this club blah blah)?

Martin Allen is a refreshing change and he does say what he means - unlike Holloway, who just says things for attention and 90% of the other managers who just roll out cliched crap over and over

...but yes, he has set himself up for a fall because if he fails, he'll be accused of not giving his all etc etc - even if Martin Allen is the type of manager who try his hardest, irrespective of whether he really wanted the job or not. The polar opposite of Man City's players attitudes..
