Same way be budgeted for a loss at Norwich last season.....oh

We showed sufficient form prior to that Norwich game to expect a result, at the moment I am not 100%. We did what was required at the O's, but it hardly sounded convincing. But we should still have enough class to win ugly at Rochdale given our squad, if they put in the effort. To me the Rochdale game is now key, win that and the opposition will not be so focused on the automatic spot, especially if they don't get maximum.

It might not have sounded it, but it really was convincing. They may have had more possession 2nd half, but they tested Davis once, and that was a pretty routine save. Nothing much gets past our defence at the moment, and we were always in control, with an extra couple of gears to move into if it was needed. As it was, they weren't, and it was very comfortable without having to risk the likes of Lallana.

Strange how anyone can talk about losing in the same breath as winning - but that's football. As I see tomorrow nights game is an opportunity for us to cement our position in 2nd place - or miss out on doing so! Rochdale will fancy another home win plus they've already beaten us at SMS! There are no gimmes in this league - heart and endeavour with a big slice of luck will be required to get anything.

I'm sure there will be a big away following - especially as we are in a current rich vein of form with some decent results. Maybe not the 3,200+ seen at Orient - but I would guess anything around 1,000 would be a great turn out.

I've never been to Rochdale so it's a new one for me - I usually have a good record at new grounds so let's hope it is an omen! Some places just don't sit well with me Old Trafford and Tranmere are two I distinctly dislike...but it has to be done!

Whatever the outcome - score, bookings/sendings off, injuries etc - remember it is only one of our games in hand! No need for suicidal posts for the next 3-days before Bristol Rovers or calling for Adkins',Barnard's or Jaidi's (insert name here) head. It's a team game and we are now acknowledged as the 12th man - so make it count.

One game at a time and it's costing me more than a dime...

See you mongs in the away end or The Church Inn to give them 110% BACKING TO THE END!

play offs at the moment is a very unlikely scenario. It will take a serious dip in form for us to miss out on 2nd. (Our form would need to return to the Wilkins period)

We got 10 points from the last 4 games. We now have 7 games to get 15 points (But i still think 11/12 will be enough...)

Over the last 7 games we have accumulated 19 points, the 7 games before that we accumulated 14 points and the 7 games before that we got 13 points.

See what I'm getting at....? And those groups of 7 games include defeats at the likes of Tranmere/Wallsall etc. So we even have the luxury of being able to drop a point or two (not saying we will)

IF we do not get 2nd our form will be so bad that we will not win the playoffs. I feel 2nd or another season in league 1. We WILL get 2nd though I have no doubt 4 ins will do it.

I´m sorry but it really wasn´t. We did defend very well however we invited endless pressure due to our inabliity to hold on the ball in midfield.

Good first half performancee very average 2nd half and excellent result.

Well I must have been well under the influence then (most likely) as from where I was standing it felt a doddle.

Anyone got a spare seat heading back down towards London or Bedford sort of way? Got a ticket without realising last train from Manchester is at half 9 and a 5 hour bus journey isnt highly appealing.

Oh and a win is really needed, got to really push for automatic as quick as possible to compensate for all our silly mistakes at places like Tranmere and Walsall

Some people are making their assessment based on the fact that Rochdale were capable of beating us at St Mary's, therefore they ought to be capable of beating us when playing at home.

But a closer inspection of certain circumstances surrounding that match will be instructive in forming a different conclusion, perhaps.

The match was the first under Wilkins as caretaker, following Pardew's dismissal. That dismissal followed a weak start to the season and much was claimed by many that the pre-season preparation had not been good, that players were not fit and that Pardew's heart wasn't really in it. Looking back, Lambert didn't seem to be right and has only recently shown glimmers of his old self within the past month or two. Whether the confidence of the team had been affected by Pardew's dismissal is also a possible factor.

Barnard was also suspended, another player who can make a difference and who is now in devastating form. Chamberlain played, but was at that time still a bit raw, as was Martin. Reading the match report again, we also had the Puncheon that fired shots into row Z. In that game, Connolly was up front. So Lambert and Barnard firing on all cylinders is a far more potent attack, Jaidi with Fonte a better defence. OK, Schneiderlin had played and is missed perhaps, but the midfield we have now is doing well, with Dickson looking good out wide and Lallana possibly returning if needed.

And what about the team spirit now under Adkins? Quite a different kettle of fish to that under Wilkins post Pardew, I'd say.

Tactical awareness? Also better with Adkins IMO.

Also, the team can clearly see the prospect of promotion as a reality if they keep their concentration going for a little while longer.

So overall, there are many reasons why the match tomorrow should be quite different to that earlier in the season. Despite all this, we'll probably lose because that is what Saints do. ;)

Here's the change. Saints will no longer let us down... they've prooved that over the previous 8 matches. Confidence is high, but feet are firmly on the ground. Saints will win tomorrow 2:0 Happy Days- Promotion will be achieved with 2 games to spare imo.

Good summary - more than a few things have changed since that game but most of all - belief.

Lets not build Rochdale up as world beaters, they are far from it. Their home record is incosistant to say the least. If we perform to the standard we all know we can, we'll be fine tomorrow night. Still doesn't stop me sh*tting myself about it though!

If we get stuck into Gary Jones and don't allow him to run the midfield as he did at SMS we will win. If we give him the room to play it his way he will pick us apart, which will make it much more difficult. Play Aaron Martin as an extra defender and man mark him.

Am looking forward to this even if I am going by coach there and back and getting back at some ridiculous time as it'l be worth it if we win but if not then a draw will do me aswell as we'l still be in front of Huddersfield n Peterboro even with a game in hand but we will see!

Will also be a ground to tick off too!

Am going for 2-1 Saints with Lambert n Barnard/Fonte for Saints or any win would do Tbh!

Will see most of you on here there tomorrow night too then!

COYR :D!!

No. That means we are allowing Rochdale to determine our tactics. That is a negative move and sets a negative tone.

Let them worry about us, not the other way around.

This is a very different Saints sides to the shambles that played Rochdale at SMS.

Apparently chappers has his foot in a protective boot and hasn't travelled. Hammond and Stevens if fit? Could butters do a job for us in CM?

Hmm

Then I would think if Stephens is fit not an issue, if he is not then I would expect NA to go with Gobern or possibly IF Lallana is fit then he could actually play right side with Guly in the Diamond leaving Dickson out on the left

Or not

a draw would not be a bad result......

Hearing that kind of statement about a team that spent the last 41 (forty one) years in Division 4/league 2 is a welcome reminder that we need to get out of this damn league as soon as bloomin' possible!

(said Trousers, arrogantly)

TEAM NEWS (Rochdale)

Rochdale boss Keith Hill must decide whether to shuffle his pack as his side look to beat Southampton to climb into the League One play-off zone.

Hill has named the same team five games running but Colchester ended Dale's six-match unbeaten run on Saturday.
