Saint_clark Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 I think Barnard is an excellent League 1 Striker and will probably be a good Championship Striker He would be even better if his first touch was better as would have been James Beattie Whilst watching the game on Tuesday I noticed that Barnard on quite a few occassions lost the ball because of poor ball control On the otherhand Rickie Lamberts first touch is extremely good His first touch is better than people give him credit for. His goal V Reading in pre-season was one of the best i've seen.
Andy Durman Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Personally I would prefer it if Barnard remained professional and didn't swear at the paying public. I am not happy about this and would hope NA will deal with it privately. You don't have to be a lip reader to realise what he said.
Deppo Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 You don't have to be a lip reader to realise what he said. Was it audible then? If this is the case, he should definitely be banned.

Saint_clark Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 It's amazing how whenever a Fuller/Austin/Chopra has jumped around in front of our fans and sworn at us, no-one says more than "he's a c*ck" but suddenly when one of our own does it he should be banned.

This. He hardly swore down the camera at millions of viewers ffs.
dronskisaint Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Kinda bit confused of where this has come from. Edit: Just read through some of your posts, you seem to like causing arguments which explains the above. Why don't you turn your computer off and go hit your wife or whatever your past times are. I think it's because it's phrased like an exam question....this just may be an alien concept or even a sore point perhaps? Barny...who'd not want him in their team? A bit petulant at times and prone to giving away free kicks in his enthusiasm ...and a bit ill-advised to celebrate that close to their fans but he had a sh*t time when he was there before and no doubt thought he'd underline the point that he (& we) benefitted from his getting out (via Sarfind).
southamptonfclegend Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Lee Barnard was immense yesterday, just like he has been all season tbf, him and Lallana have been the key cog's in our 'success' this season. Lee Lee Lee Barnard.
dubai_phil Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 This. He hardly swore down the camera at millions of viewers ffs. I watched the golf yesterday. Tiger missed a putt (again) He lifted his head to the heavens facing straight into the camera and without being a lip reader everyone watching could see clearly what he said. Ain't seen anyone demanding he is banned from playing today, Barnard said a word to people who were making obscene gestures at him? Are Orient taking any action against them?
dubai_phil Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 ...underrated. Discuss. No, he is not under-rated. He is a very good striker with a good goal scoring record. He has strengths and he has weaknesses (which is why he is in L1 not at Barcelona) We have a style of pplay which is getting better and better. He scores goals in it and gives 110%. Cannot argue with that. I also would imagine that if our Scouting team have anything in their heads they will be looking for someone who fits our style of play and brings in what LB does AND will be quality in the PL. That is one of the weakness of LB - is he good enough in L1? - yes, will he be good enough in NPC? - probably, although some games may not suit his style. Will he be good enough to play every week in the PL? Hmm - you can teach a lot of things but that 1st 3 yards of pace that you need up there??? IMHO no, BUT he could be useful off the bench at that level
sadoldgit Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 I think fans rate Barnard very highly, actually. As for him swearing in front of the family stand - from those pics above, the people sat in there don't seem too respectful either. If that is the family stand can you imagine what the other stand looks like? Looks like a recruiting ground for the BNP.
benjii Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Is Barnard better than Paul Moody or Mickey Evans? Discuss.
Thedelldays Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 if barnard played for the opposition..we would ****ing hate him
Appy Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 if barnard played for the opposition..we would ****ing hate him Ha, i love Barnard. But this is true.
Secret Site Agent Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Its a healing strap designed in Tokyo. “The Kinesio Taping Method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.” I thought it might have been his winkie. I know I have to strap mine down.
Andy Durman Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 I'm not saying he should be banned, just that the manager should have a private word about his professionalism.
Appy Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 I'm not saying he should be banned, just that the manager should have a private word about his professionalism. I'd think Nigel will be keeping quiet as long as he keeps scoring.
John B Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 His first touch is better than people give him credit for. His goal V Reading in pre-season was one of the best i've seen. In general his first touch lets him down otherwise I think he could be a top striker Spurs I think let him go. But he has been very good for us so I am pleased he was signed
Chorlton Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Never gives less than a hundred% love him he never gives up.
Badger Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 He hardly swore down the camera at millions of viewers ffs. Instead of which, judging by the photos below, he just riled a bunch of second hand motor dealers, and market stall owners... They do like their designer shades don't they ? Muted celebrations from Lee...

adrian lord Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 The guy in the first picture on the top left knows he is in the family stand, he is just casually giving it the 2 fingers. That's right - if he were in normal seating it would have been a five knuckle shuffle.
scotty Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 That's right - if he were in normal seating it would have been a five knuckle shuffle. which the guy on his left is doing.
benjii Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 When I sit in the Family Enclosure I only abuse the most irritating away players and I say "ccok" instead of "****". Children are our future, after all.
hamster Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 He is imho more or less at his peak. Maybe first choice in the CCC up til Christmas then cash in and buy a real striker; Holt.
Colinjb Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 if barnard played for the opposition..we would ****ing hate him It's about time we had a player like that!
Appy Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 He is imho more or less at his peak. Maybe first choice in the CCC up til Christmas then cash in and buy a real striker; Holt. No chance.
Saint_clark Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 I wouldn't want Holt anyway. Lambert is similar (although he sacrifices a bit of pace/dribbling ability for better control IMO), and should take heart that someone like Holt has scored regularly at level above.

niceandfriendly Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 Completely disagree, one of the best first touches in the team IMO. Agree completely. Against Orient especially the way he look a lot of balls out of the air and under control under huge pressure from their defenders was brilliant to watch at times. Really helped take the pressure off our defence on a few occasions in the second half when they were having their spell of pressure.
david in sweden Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 ...underrated. Discuss. who ever said he was underated? He's had some poor runs of form, mostly due to injuries which he was carrying for weeks at a time but still played. He is the player who has been subbed most times this season, but (I suspect) mainly because NA didn't want to overstress him. Great finsher and good at half chances, too. Not underated in my book.
Appy Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 Looking at the highlights they have on Saints Player, i think Barnard to booked for going into the saints fans, not for his confrontation with the Orient fans.
Saints4Prem Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 I was listening to Talksport earlier and it appears that Adrian Durham is trying to get in on the act by asking Orient fans to phone in if they heard Barney swearing. It would be a big bonus for his Posh team to have Barney out for our run in. He did grudgingly mutter the words that Southampton will be in the second automatic place though. I turned off so do not know if his request gained any momentum.

It'll open a huge can of worms if they start retrospectively banning people for this sort of thing.

So many many threads on here start with "Discuss". half of them come from kids who are meant to be at school. next discussion thread can you please come up with some sort of logical argument to support your thesis? OK, it might be based on purely subjective grounds, but that doesn't mean you can't start with some sort of reasoned argument/case/opinion.
