Back from the game- fantastic how we dug in and hung on revealing a resilience that has been missing from the team for years. We didn't keep possession well enough and survived a few scrapes - I thought their second disallowed goal was onside as we seemed to have a player on the goal line; but swings and roundabouts and all that.

My ratings:

Davis 8 - didn't have too many saves to make but was absolutely immense in the air - never seen him so willing to come out and control his box. never knew he had thar in the locker.

Butterfield 7 - the most tested and exposed of our defenders as most of Orient's play came down the right through the midget cox but he coped adequately.

Jaidi 8 - characteristic jaidi performance - won everything in the air and helped us weather a real arial bombardment in the 2nd half.

Fonte 8.5 - composed, cultured and more like the Fonte of old (his form arguably dipped a month or so ago); made a couple of great runs in the 2nd half, including releasing Lambert that led to our 2nd. should have scored from a header after a lovely disguised freekick.

Harding 7.5 - less busy defensively than Butterfield but was instrumental with Dickson to most of our attacking play in the 1st hald. Faded 2nd half.

Chaplow 6 - tbf could have given him a lower mark - was a passenger for most of the game and gave the ball away far too cheaply. could have got a goal near the end but it didnt compensate for a poor performance. Less worried about rushing Lallana back when we have Dickson but if Dale Stephens has a fighting chance for Tuesday, I'd risk him.

Hammond 7.5 - had to cover a lot of ground on behalf of Chaplow and Guly and unsurprisingly tired. Was slightly wasteful in possession.

Dickson 8 - brilliant first half - had lumps kicked out of him and had treatment twice before getting the assist. seemed to slip and slide a bit in key positions but was our main attacking outlet.

Guly 6.5 - a passenger at times and part of the reason we invited so much pressure 2nd half - his substitution was no surprise. Needs a more mobile midfield to be truly effective.

Lambert 7.5 - well taken goal and got an assist - but didn't hold the ball up well enough when we were playing hoofball and crying out for some respite.

Barnard 8.5 - my MOTM - occupied both their CBs all afternoon and was a constant irritant. ran and ran and ran but did it with real brains.

Fantastic Saitns win - two more difficult away games, the rest are manageable, today was a problem gaem, but 3 points.

Would prefer Posh win (this is a 5 game sprint, not a 45 game marathon), but this is a very very good second best.

Back then it was true within one point. 27 were needed to guarantee promotion.

Easy to be smug after-the-fact.

I'm not being "smug after the fact".

I said we'd need 20 points to go up with ten games to go. You said 28.

You said people expressing the 20 point view were "loons".

Not for the first time, you were wrong. In this instance, colossally wrong.

There's no "after the fact" about it....

FFS why do people even bother arguing with Alpine? It's just soooooo pointless. You are never going to get anywhere, he just does it for the sake of an argument. No matter how right you are he will ALWAYS make an argument. It's like trying to persuade Osama Bin Laden to open a 50s style all American diner in Ohio.

Just stick him on the ignore list and stop wasting my band width.

An Orient fan rang 5 Live about it. He said that Barnard was abusive towards the family stand and should get a 2 match ban like Rooney did. To be fair it wasnt a very clever thing to do. Funny pic though.

I find it quite amusing.

When he gets tied up in his own twisted illogic, he just drops the whole line of argument and tries to move onto something else.

It's quite sweet, really

While it may have been a silly thing to do, I don't think he's setting any worse of an example than the fatty sticking his fingers up, the guy doing w@nker hand gestures, all the people obviously swearing at him, and the guy towards the back who's quite clearly smuggled a bottle of Pepsi into the ground against ground regulations.

Barney had been getting stick from the home fans all afternoon so this didn't surprise me - evidently his Southend pedigree counted against him. I was in the West Stand myself (not behind the goal where those Orient fans are ) and several Saints fans got escorted out by stewards after he scored - with a few fists flying at one point.

As for the game, second half was definitely smash n grab, first half we played much better but hey, that'll do nicely.

Just got back:

Brilliant day out :D

Went to the coach and Castle (Or whatever it was called) Not too impressed that it was closed by the old bill early on but hey ho. Got a few pints in. To the game.

With such a narrow pitch, was always going to be one of those games. The pitch was ****e. They scored within the first few minutes but disallowed for offside (Dunno if it was or not). Then Dickson sends a beauty of a cross (One of many) and Lambert goes BOSH into the bottom corner - 1-0 to the southerners! Orient score a second but if the penis on the goal line let's it goes in, its a valid goal. He goes for goal hogging glory and is offside lol.

Second half, dig in and defend. We didn't really attack, bar a few occasions. We couldnt keep hold of the ball, and when we did, it looked like we didnt want it. Lambert (MOTM) then sends a beauty of a ball to Barnard on the counter and POW 2-0. Barnard also has a go at the orient fans (Rightly so, bunch of noshers)

Fans - Brilliant atmosphere - Went a bit quiet during the 2nd half but when we got that second......WE ARE GOING UP!!!!

Davis - Not much to do, made a point blank save in injury time, dont know how he saved it. 8/10

Butterfield - Thought he had his worst game for us today, just awful. 4/10

Jaidi - Monster. Does he ever lose a header? 7/10

Fonte - So calm and composed. 8/10

Harding - Linked up well with Dickson, few good runs. 7/10

Guly - So so, Didn't impress but didn't do too badly either. 6/10

Hammond - Lucky Schniderlin/Stephens aren't fit, because he would be out of the team on that display. No touch at all. 5/10

Chaplow - Ran until he had nothing left, but see hammond. 5/10

Dickson - Superb. Ran his heart out, took a wack in the first half but gave it back soon after. Tireless. 9/10

Barnard - Got another goal and worked hard. Just needs to cut out the needless fouls. 8/10

Lambert - The guy did everything today. Defended, scored a goal, set one up. Hero. 9/10

Subs aren't worth doing really.

Let's not forget yet another bicycle clearance from Jaidi. He was immense today (again). Close to being MOTM. For me Fonte took the honours.

Dickson looks quality, glad to see him in the starting 11 after Tuesday night. Rickie and Lee are a great front line, surprised how often we lofted the ball to Barnie, who looked pretty small against their back four - I was also surprised that he won the ball on a few occassions.

Biggest disappointment was the loose passing in mid-fiield which brought O pressure when there shouldn't have been any.

The fans were fantastic today - singing continuously throughout the first half (and before the game) and then afterwards down the high street back to the tube. It was a bit quieter in the second half, I don't know about anyone esle but I couldn't get a drink at half time (crowd too big) and my voice didn't hold out too well in the second half, so I was saving what I had left for a goal or for full time.

So glad I went - one for the memories!

Just back. Got to say I thought it an effortless 3pts.

Orient did lots of huffing and puffing but they never looked like scoring to me.

A narrow ploughed field of a pitch didn't aid flowing football.

The two CBs were awesome and Dickson put in a proper shift. Barnard worked life a Trojan and Lambert was the best passer of the ball on the pitch.

Rochdale with the nipper on Tuesday. Bring it on.

Brilliant result. Bit of a smash and grab, to be fair Leyton are a good division one side. A game I think we would have lost last year. Dickson was very good first half. Stand out player again, for me was Barnard. He is a real wind up merchant, cant be much fun playing against him. Just think we are a solid consistent team team now and would be surprised if we got less than 2 points per game til end of season, which I reckon will get us up.

I think we could be 5 points clear or 3 place with a better goal difference this time next week, with a game in hand, but think we will lose at Brighton.

Unless I've missed something, they didn't show Saints on SSN just now. They had highlights of a complete none-event of a game between Hartlepool and Udders, but not the team who've just moved into the automatic spots. Did they show our game earlier?

At least Brighton might be promoted by the time we play them, lets hope they ease up a bit on us?? please.

I really do think we have got that second place. We are a much stronger team these days, and ok we do not play the sharp neat passing football, but we are solid and get results.

The two CMs are very good at breaking up play but not so hot when it comes to praying the ball about.

Got back from the game about 6:30 as I went straight out for a meal which was Good and am now back home chilling and feeling Good after that win!

Had a few at the Coach and Horses Pub which was Pretty Good before making my way down to the ground!

The ground reminds me abit like Dellhurst Park where the visting fans are along the sides and not behind the goal and it was Mental today especially when

the goals went in and at the end when we won when we were singing "We Are Going UP" etc as that was Quality ;)!

Good Win, Kept A Clean Sheet And Got The 3 Points!

MOTM for me was as I said in the previous topic was out of Dickson, Fonte, Kelv n Jaidi!

Looking forward to Rochdale on Tuesday as it's a new ground for me and hopefully Lalanna and Stephens will play and fingers crossed we'l win again and get

the 3 Points!

WE R GOIN UP!

COYR :D!!

I don't think we need to fear Brighton they were pretty average at SMS.

Lambert has always been an excellent passer of the ball, he is much more than some big lump centre forward.

Leyton Orient fans saying Barnard and Lambert were the difference.

Saying how class Rickie is, i'd have to agree.

From the beeb thought the better team lost today by a mile to be honest. I thought we dominated proceedings in the second period but without getting a goal.

Strange, I thought we were totally in control throughout.
