Turkish Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 Advice on credit issues please. I am considering applying for a fairly large loan so got my credit report through as I got a knocked back from my bank, who said looking at my account and history with them it wouldn't be a problem for the loan. My credit report is a lot better than i thought it was, it's 100% spot on apart from a default in August 2005 for £11 which i knew nothing about, the debt has been cleared in full about 3 years ago. When i rang the company i owed the money to they said they didn't recognise it and they had no record at all of anything in my name whatsoever at the address i was living at at the time of the default or where i live now. What can i do to get this sorted out?
Baj Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 Pretty sure if they are telling you on the phone they have no record of your debt then they are legally obliged to inform the credit reference companies to have it wiped off your record. I would put something like that in writing to them.
hamster Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 If they use Experian look for a lender who uses the other credit check company (name escapes me) or vice versa. Check out your query on moneysavingexpert.com. If you are looking to consolidate loans and overdrafts then go for a super balance transfer credit card, up to 18 months interest free ATM. Turkish Posted 9 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 9 April, 2011 It's for a car loan, as i've been offered a new job where i'll get a car allowance instead of a company car. I've got hardly any debt now as paid it all off, got 2 credit cards with only a few hundred quid on each and they are both up to date and not missed a payment since i've had them. It's wierd, it was my old bank, i was paying a loan back at £75 a month so god nows how there can be an £11 default on there and when i rang them they had no record of me whatsoever. I did close my account with them in 2004 though so that might be why as over the 6 years it stays on record.
JonnyLove Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 To advise if you do a credit report this will go down as a check on you each time you do it and lower your scores for 3 months. I cancelled mine once I spoke to a bank about this. Also if the company has no record you can email the people at the credit report and ask them to remove it explaining the details. They have to check it and then remove it.
