Will imagine he'd want a fair wedge. Showed a lot of promise in the early stages of his career and has had a good spell here before. Not sure its an area we need to strengthen as I dont think Kelvin or Bart are in any hurry to leave us.

He has been released before the end of the season, from a club which is soon to be relegated from a League we hope to be in next season, having only played two games this season. All very telling...

What would be the point? If we do replace Davis it will be someone whos around 10 years younger.

And he had a truly shocking 2nd stint at Ipswich.

Ummmmmm, why do people never look at things objectively and take into account other aspects as to why someone who was highly regarded didn't regain their form?

"Oh, the team he plays for is crap so he must be as well".

Well, in that line of thinking, Le Tissier was utter garbage.

Richard Wright used to be a Premier League standard goalkeeper. He obviously has the ability to do so. For whatever reason(s), he underperformed in recent seasons, only showing glimpses of his capability. Factor in all the circumstances; the teams he's playing for, his surroundings/was he happy/was the coaching effective etc etc etc and surely then make a judgement.

Or we could instead just write people off completely without even giving them a chance? From what I remember, he was a key component to us surviving in the Champ in 07/08....

Two games this season tells a story. He has either been injured (and thus a signing risk), or not deemed good enough to start for a soon to be relegated team and released before the end of the season. Where as Saints are looking for players in the event of promotion, to get them promoted again within two years.

Injury, fair point. But IIRC correctly, Richard Dryden was signed by Saints as a 3rd centre half whilst were in the Prem and he'd only played in intermittently for a struggling Bristol City team in the third division. It could be argued he was deemed by their management not good enough for them, but yet proved capable in the PL. It's a matter of opinions... And most recently, Luke Varney, lambasted at Charlton/Sheff Wed/Derby as not good enough but when he's played, has proved his capabilities in the PL..

Our very own Jason Puncheon being another good example.

Yeah, I did think of him but I think someone would have countered with "he obviously had talent, but an attitude to boot" so I thought I wouldn't give anyone the ammunition ;)

Kelvin is the present, Bart is the future. Wright is neither. He was great in '08 and I wish we'd signed him then, but now we don't need a 'keeper and if we did I'm sure we'd get one younger.

Richard Wright was injured for part of the season but when he was fit, Steve Simonsen was still getting the No.1 shirt ahead of him. Simonsen is a shocking keeper so based on that fact I dont think we need Wright. He was good three years ago but has dipped since then.

I said this at the time, Wright was not that great a keeper when he came to us, was not that great after leaving us. But one thing he did well was to command his 6 yard box such that I cannot remember anyone saying Kelvin should be in goal. When you compare the two, it was night and day and I would still take him just for the end of this season.

I actually quite liked him and I thought he was a Good keeper for us and I don't know why we got rid of him in the first place unless he wanted to leave n I wouldn't mind him being back here to be back up for Kelvin as I'd def keep Kelv in goal as he deserves his place in goal but we'l see if anything does happen in the next few days if Saints bring him in or not but we'l see!

COYR :D!!

He was great for us, anyone doubting that should look at the save he made at 1-1 in the survival game Vs Sheff Utd.

That said, Kelvin and Bart should be more than capable to get us over the line this season.

Because he was on loan from West Ham.

Ahhh OK that's fair enough and thanks for that info Matthew Le God Mate and do you reckon that if we had made an offer for him that he would have accepted it and come to Saints or what as it'd be interesting to see what the outcome would have been!?!

Has just had his contract terminated by Sheffield Utd... Think HCDAJFU!

Buying a 33 Year Old Goalkeeper who is on a continual slide down the Leagues I dont think is a good idea.

Like all goal keepers he can make terrific saves but he lacks consistency

I don't know why Kelvin puts up with us :) 16 clean sheets this season and in many oppositions team of the season and yet a section of our fan base is still screaming to replace him.

Totally agree he has been great for this club and still is.

Had Bart still be injured then would have taken him straightaway, but Bart's back - question is, will we need 3 keepers between now & the end of the season? Probably not. Perhaps we should let him come and train with us whilst he looks for another club, and then if one of Davies or Bart gets injured, we'll be in prime position to pick him up short term.

+1 - best I have seen in this league - comfortably.

Stick with Kelvin. I'd then like to see Bart take spot for #1. He's certainly waited long enough! I think he's just about our longest standing first team player now?! Certainly one of them.

Imo,he has the attributes to become a good goalkeeping coach.

If his playing days, and offers come his way are not what he was looking for i would offer him a role within our coaching set up with the youngsters.

I'd like NA to bring Wright "into the building" , if only as back up.

At the moment we appear fine, but an injury to KD leaves our options a bit limited.Even if BB steps into the role,I wonder if how he will handle the pressure of a promotion run in and possible play offs. Although he is a bit older now,and more experienced we had the rumblings that he lost his nerve in the play offs in the CCC.Don't think we should leave ourselves open to a repeat, or having Forecast as our next option.

Our 'new' club no longer a sellig club (three cheers) but neither is it a buying club, we are learning to breed and train our own, which is better by far. to sign a rejected has-been like Wright in preference to using our own very loyal and capable Bart would send out completely the wrong message

This is the player that - is rumoured -would have signed for Braga last summer had he not failed a medical ?

Not blaming him by the way, given his restricted opportunities here, but he may still only be here by default.

Interesting, I don't think there is any chance that we would be interested in signing Wright, we have two good keepers, though I would have to say Wright is better all round than KD ever was or will be (both are great shot-stoppers but Wright has far better distribution skills and command of his area, but then so does Bart). 33 years old, prime age for a keeper, Wright is less than a year younger than KD. Lots of rubbish talked about Wright not beig any good any more, his lack of games in last year or so is purely down to injury, so he would be a huge risk anyway. If his injury is such that playing is less and less of an option then GK coach would be a good call, but do we need a GK coach when NA is a keeper anyway? Still have a lot of time and respect for Wright, he was key to us staying up when he was with us, those 7 games he was part of a defence that was transformed by Pearson, pity the ruddy-faced idiot did not see that.

Some Saints fans have put him on quite a pedestal considering he only played 7 games for Saints, 4 years ago.

I think you'll find Mr Perfect that it was three years ago.

I dont get the negative comments towards him on here. He was outstanding for us, and drove Kelvin on to where he has been performing for the last 2-3 seasons. Before Wright came in Davis was absolute poo in general.

my comments were not negative about his performances 3 years ago but about what he could offer us now
