Durham have won the toss and will bat. As Benny Howell rather indicated last night on Twitter ( !!) Liam Dawson plays for Hants :

Adams, Dawson, Myburgh, McKenzie, Vince, Pothas, Ervine, Cork, Jones, Briggs, de Wet

Looks a pretty good team with good depth in the batting and plenty of bowling options. Durham team to follow.

Hants might prove otherwise but it's said to be a very good wicket, the dry weather is due to last so hopefully conditions will not change by the time we bat sometime tomorrow !

I remember last year's opening match !! Our inability to take wickets is a real concern.Almost cost us our place in Div 1 last season.

edit .... at last 84/1.

I'd be interested to hear from someone who was actually there today but every indication is that the pitch is easy paced and very good for batting. Briggs taking 4/127 off 28 overs was actually a damned good effort.

Must be a really, really, great batting track....Adams gone first ball.

Beleive me mate,I was there yesterday and it is a great batting track...but you've still got to bat well on it.

But then again with us needing 324 to avoid the follow on and with a 0% chance of winning you'd think that our batting might be a bit more circumspect wouldn't you.I mean Myburgh's innings was probably a great little cameo to watch but this is 4 day cricket and you don't forcibly need to hit every other ball for 4.We needed to get to around 100 without loss, unfortunately we're 2 for 55 as the aussies say.Hopefully MacKenzie will know what's required and come to our rescue once again.

Exactly mate, to be honest I think you are agreeing with me...as I said you've got to bat well on it.

Durham now 220-3 second innings, 403 runs ahead.

I know Durham are a very good side, but I think it's going to be a long, hard season for Hampshire.

We need 490 to win but have made a decent start at 87 with loss leaving us another 403 to get tomorrow, what a start to the season that would be, still better not count on it I suppose.

What's the minimum number of overs in a day nowadays? I guess if it's 90 odd and we bat sensibly it could happen.

Disappointing morning. Pothas given lbw when it was clearly too high. He was not a happy chappie.

Jones limped off mid over with a groin strain. Spoke to Bobby Parks and he thought it was not bad and more of a precaution. Tim Tremlett thought about 2 weeks.

Cork then came off mid over but that was cramp from the high work rate he had undertaken yesterday. Rested and returned mid afternoon.

Durham continued to plunder our weakened attack on a very good batting wicket showing very little movement or turn

Well done to Stokes. An England all rounder looks a certainty in a few years in the Collingwood role if not Flintoff

No scares from Adams or Dawson and 87-0 shows just how good this wicket is. Do not expect it to change tomorrow and it is just a tiny bit possible we can hold out and dare I say it win the game! Harmerson bowled a couple of overs but then went off again. The medical team were sat on the boundary whilst he ewas out there and scurried back to the changing room as he came off. Doubt we will see any more of him this match. Plunkett looks ineffective. Think it will be up to Thorp (who has bowled well throughout the match) and the spin of Blackwell. Stokes cannot continue to perform can he???

96 overs again tomorrow for the final day split between a minimum of 80 overs up to the last hour and a minimum of 16 overs in the last hour.

Spoke to Cork before beginning of play today. Wicket still flat but they are worried about the footholes. Very good batting from Adams and Dawson this morning. That session was all about remaining at the wicket. Likewise the afternoon session. Draw is very much the favourite
