Weston Saint Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 Review here http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/hampshire-v-durham-cc-preview/ Carberry to miss the first half of the season is a blow!
Berkshire Saint Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 Reckon that might be a typo. This article and others suggest it's around a month: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/counties/hampshire/9450100.stm

Trying not to put a date on it. Hopefully not too long though! Cracking batsman and a lovely guy.
chrisobee Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Durham have won the toss and will bat. As Benny Howell rather indicated last night on Twitter ( !!) Liam Dawson plays for Hants : Adams, Dawson, Myburgh, McKenzie, Vince, Pothas, Ervine, Cork, Jones, Briggs, de Wet Looks a pretty good team with good depth in the batting and plenty of bowling options. Durham team to follow.
chrisobee Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Durham : MJ Di Venuto, MD Stoneman, GJ Muchall, BA Stokes, DM Benkenstein, ID Blackwell, P Mustard*†, SG Borthwick, LE Plunkett, CD Thorp, SJ Harmison
chrisobee Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 I doubt this will work by jinxing them but Durham cruising along at 33/0.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 I doubt this will work by jinxing them but Durham cruising along at 33/0. We are beginning to really need a wicket, Durham past 50 without loss, only championship game without a wicket so far.

chrisobee Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Hants might prove otherwise but it's said to be a very good wicket, the dry weather is due to last so hopefully conditions will not change by the time we bat sometime tomorrow !

chrisobee Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Briggs again, 99/2 ! A four through point brings up the 50 for Stoneman but then Briggs gets his revenge - bowled for 51. Doesn't appear to be worn out !

Minty Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 4th wicket down for 221. Certainly seems to be a good batting track.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Certainly seems to be a good batting track. You'd have to hope so because we'll be looking for 400+ to stay out of trouble I expect.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Durham 413/6 at the close, not a particularly auspicious start to the season then. Our lack of a really fast bowler is going to be problematic all season long again. Briggs 4/127 but that's just buying wickets.
corsacar saint Posted 8 April, 2011 Share Posted 8 April, 2011 Fantastic day to bat,let us hope we bat as well when we get in. As an asside is Myburgh any taller than Harry Pilling? Cannot be much in it.
chrisobee Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 I'd be interested to hear from someone who was actually there today but every indication is that the pitch is easy paced and very good for batting. Briggs taking 4/127 off 28 overs was actually a damned good effort.

Window Cleaner Posted 9 April, 2011 Share Posted 9 April, 2011 Beleive me mate,I was there yesterday and it is a great batting track...but you've still got to bat well on it. But then again with us needing 324 to avoid the follow on and with a 0% chance of winning you'd think that our batting might be a bit more circumspect wouldn't you.I mean Myburgh's innings was probably a great little cameo to watch but this is 4 day cricket and you don't forcibly need to hit every other ball for 4.We needed to get to around 100 without loss, unfortunately we're 2 for 55 as the aussies say.Hopefully MacKenzie will know what's required and come to our rescue once again. Weston Saint Posted 9 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 9 April, 2011 (edited) Harmerson off with hand injury. Poor performance by our batsmen in getting out too easily to poor shots. Trader Posted 10 April, 2011 Share Posted 10 April, 2011 Durham now 220-3 second innings, 403 runs ahead. I know Durham are a very good side, but I think it's going to be a long, hard season for Hampshire.
Window Cleaner Posted 10 April, 2011 Share Posted 10 April, 2011 Durham now 220-3 second innings, 403 runs ahead. I know Durham are a very good side, but I think it's going to be a long, hard season for Hampshire. We need 490 to win but have made a decent start at 87 with loss leaving us another 403 to get tomorrow, what a start to the season that would be, still better not count on it I suppose. What's the minimum number of overs in a day nowadays? I guess if it's 90 odd and we bat sensibly it could happen.
Weston Saint Posted 10 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 10 April, 2011 (edited) Disappointing morning. Pothas given lbw when it was clearly too high. He was not a happy chappie. Jones limped off mid over with a groin strain. Spoke to Bobby Parks and he thought it was not bad and more of a precaution. Tim Tremlett thought about 2 weeks. Cork then came off mid over but that was cramp from the high work rate he had undertaken yesterday. Rested and returned mid afternoon. Durham continued to plunder our weakened attack on a very good batting wicket showing very little movement or turn Well done to Stokes. An England all rounder looks a certainty in a few years in the Collingwood role if not Flintoff No scares from Adams or Dawson and 87-0 shows just how good this wicket is. Do not expect it to change tomorrow and it is just a tiny bit possible we can hold out and dare I say it win the game! Harmerson bowled a couple of overs but then went off again. The medical team were sat on the boundary whilst he ewas out there and scurried back to the changing room as he came off. Doubt we will see any more of him this match. Plunkett looks ineffective. Think it will be up to Thorp (who has bowled well throughout the match) and the spin of Blackwell. Stokes cannot continue to perform can he??? 96 overs again tomorrow for the final day split between a minimum of 80 overs up to the last hour and a minimum of 16 overs in the last hour. Window Cleaner Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 Looks like a whole day of batting practice then, probably imposed by the batting coach after some of Saturday's shots.
Weston Saint Posted 11 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 11 April, 2011 Spoke to Cork before beginning of play today. Wicket still flat but they are worried about the footholes. Very good batting from Adams and Dawson this morning. That session was all about remaining at the wicket. Likewise the afternoon session. Draw is very much the favourite
chrisobee Posted 11 April, 2011 Share Posted 11 April, 2011 A draw it was, Hants finished on 345/5. Adams 105, Dawson 70, Myburgh 42, McKenzie 43, Vince 14 Pothas 14* Ervine 22* . Very good effort 2nd time around.
