benjii Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 I can say with certainty that had I been there I would not have applauded him. Quite the opposite infact. We have some fans who sing a song in honour of Cortese so i'm not surprised at all at this - we have some right dimebars following us. Saint-Fred Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 There are a few ex players I wouldn't spit on if they were on fire but I really don't see the harm in clapping the majority of ex-saints who play us as they leave the playing field to play no further part in the game. Are we so bitter we have to hate everyone who leaves the club or do we show a bit of class, acknowledge ex players and the fact that they were once Saints (and who possibly wish they still were?) L1Minus10 Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 Can't believe some of the stuff on this thread. People thinking he was a good player. BWP was with us for 3 years and he was shiite. During the playoff season he'd manage to go from 1st to 5th choice striker through being shiite behind Saga, Rasiak, Best and Jones Always offside because he had no brain When through 1 v 1, you always knew he'd miss Lazy s0d No football brain whatsoever No vision Got paid a fortune for doing **** all The handbag business I can't believe anyone clapped him. modern matron Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 If we need the extra money so much, how come we don't have a sponsor this season? The ticket tax just punishes some of our most loyal fans that live dotted around the country and don't have such easy access to go to the ticket office in person. I know quite a few who have had to pay out a fair bit this season because of it. Cortese is here as a businessman, looking to create a long-term return on Liebherr's original investment, I'm sorry if I find it cringeworthy that some fans sing a song about him because we're now in with a shout of promotion out of the third division What a load of tosh! Things are going WELL!!! Get a life.....

Mr_Red Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 wonderful what you can do with a bit of editing: Ha, he looks better than Delgado!!! For me, he wasn't a great player for us but he seemed like a nice lad - I remember him and Prutton (I think) being the only 2 players who sang the 12 days of Christmas with gusto (yes it was cringetastic, but a bit of a laugh I thought). The whole nightclub incident was just stupidity - but young footballers aren't normally the brightest buttons. In short, I wouldn't begrudge him a clap or two. Too much bitterness in the world these days.
brmbrm Posted 6 April, 2011 Share Posted 6 April, 2011 I agree with Turkish. We should boo all our ex-players, irrespective of anything. And we should get our boos in early by booing them right now before they even leave the club and are still playing for SFC. Boo. That's because we are grown-ups, they aren't and like elephants we never forget. So boo.

NickG Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 he is 26. He was a prem and CCC player until this season with his scoring rate per season 1,1,11,8,6,4 - average of 5 a season. First season in league 1 he has scored 17 goals. Good, but as above reckon its pacy player lacking in skill found level it works

latter day saint Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 The Cortese song is just embarrassing - that's why it's only sung by a few thick twonks in the Northam. actually it was started in the Kingsland North both times i've heard it but don't let facts get in the way of a good stereotype. It wasn't anyone around me in the front half of Block 41 either, and we've got the mongs who were singing BWP songs in the first 5 minutes within earshot. I hope NC puts all tickets up by £3 next season at least and does away with the booking fee.. Might keep the mind numbers happy As someone who has only paid it once, when utterly unavoidable, to get a ticket to AFC Bournemouth away this season I'd be even more p1ssed off with that than I was at its introduction in the first place. The addition of £3 to most tickets is purely a money-making exercise, and if all the tickets went up £3 next season at the expense of a ticket tax we'd hopefully just put it down to the promotion... dune Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 Question r.e the Cortese tax. I tried booking tickets for Hartlepool and Wallsall online but couldn't work out how to do this in the same transaction so did them separately and payed a £6 Cortese Tax. Is this how it is or can you book different games and just pay the Cortese Tax once?

The9 Posted 7 April, 2011 Share Posted 7 April, 2011 as you can see by our accounts...money has to come from somewhere at some point Liebherr's legacy was the plan initially, yet the tax was announced before he died. I don't mind us operating as a business, but let's be consistent, eh ? "No sponsor on the shirt" versus "I don't have to be inconvenienced to buy extra/away tickets for no additional fee" is an absolute no-brainer for me, logo me up. We were in freefall before Pearson came in and he kept us up. BWP came in when a promotion push was expected, commanded a reasonably large fee and didn't live up to his billing. You are right that it doesn't make you a villain clapping him, but it's understandable to find it distasteful.
