SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 I would LOVE IT if we had that kit. LOVE IT. Agreed.
The Kraken Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 I would LOVE IT if we had that kit. LOVE IT. The fact that the kit is orange is not great. If you're going to photoshop a kit, at least make the colour accurate. Especially given that the badge is the giveaway for what the red should be. And the logo is stupidly large. And on the sleeves you have to have the sponshorship panels; so Umbro wouldn't actually get to place their brand on the kit. Aside from that, it's a nice style.

Said this before and I'll say it again. Look at an original Air Florida shirt. Compare it to any shirt since then and you'll see just how orange the shade of red was compared to the red in more recent shirts. I'm not saying it was orange, just that it was a more orangy shade of red back then.
The9 Posted 17 June, 2011 Posted 17 June, 2011 That Patrick "Air Florida/Rank Xerox" kit style mock up is hilariously crap and frankly embarrassing, the number on the front looks more like a Hackett t-shirt than a football shirt. And the red in the Patrick kit was a slightly lighter red than most Saints shirts since, but absolutely nothing like the "red" in the crappy mock up. It was similar to the red in the Pony home kits though, all 3 styles. I've already done a photoshop of the old Patrick Keegan era kit on this thread for no reason other than boredom. AND already noted that the small picture link to the kit launch news shows a single broad stripe not loads of them. All indications I've heard are towards plain normal, regular stripes. Ps Hamster, you think I'm biting on the "one year" thing?

And maybe the blotchy effect of the orange kit is just a trick of the light on my monitor, and not how it appears in real life? You cling on to the fact that the kit is real, pal. I'll not trouble your disturbed reality any more. And edit: are you blind or something? There's a perfectly good photo on this page that shows the contrast between the actual Air Florida red and the off-colour orange of this poor attempt at a mock-up. Edited 17 June, 2011 by The Kraken

At what point did I say that the kit was real? It's you that has a disturbed reality as you seem to have an amazing ability to draw conclusions from things that aren't there. It's obvious that the kit is fake. I simply said that the red used on the old Patrick shirt was more Orange than the Red on the more recent shirts. He's probably made the fake mock-up use a lighter shade of Red as he's trying to make it look like the original shirt. Get your facts straight before you start having a pop at people! And for the record. I have Glaucoma so yes, I am visually impared. Edited 19 June, 2011 by Cestrian Saint
Cestrian Saint Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 Just read the piece on the OS again, The design of the new strip is a much considered decision which incorporates a number of factors and influences such as, tradition, heritage and supporter feedback, whilst also looking to provide innovative design elements as part of the "Tailored by Umbro" range. Am I still the only one who thinks that the 'stars in stripes' is a reference to ex-players (stars) names being woven into the material? :-)

deadpanmatt Posted 21 June, 2011 Posted 21 June, 2011 I don't know if your the only one, but I certainly dont think it will. It's a bit garish. Agree. All I think 'stars in stripes?' means is 'will our stars be playing football in stripes next season?' So it might not be stripes, it might be a sash, Air Florida style etc.
Charlie Wayman Posted 21 June, 2011 Posted 21 June, 2011 Still think it'll be Swiss Red with a single white stripe, diagonal or vertical - could be like the Air Florida version - and surely white shorts with red edging after this year?
PhilippineSaint Posted 21 June, 2011 Posted 21 June, 2011 No idea if this rumour is true but it made me think about the kit announcement on the OS. Are the club trying reverse psychology on us all as part of their wacky little build up to the stupendous (or stupid if you prefer) kit reveal, allegedly on 20 July? The announcement raved on about stripes and had a teaser panel so covered in them as to be nauseating. Also the old badge was very prominently displayed. So, are our wacky PR crew having a laugh at us and just waiting for the gasps of amazement when some other design is revealed (Air Florida or otherwise), or will it be bog standard stripes anyway? BTW, if given a choice it's Air Florida for me .... Bring back Dimplex

beatlesaint Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 New shirt will be a modernised version of our first Umbro kit http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Southampton/Southampton.htm That would do !
benjii Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 New shirt will be a modernised version of our first Umbro kit http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Southampton/Southampton.htm Interesting that you're sticking your neck out like this and going for red and white striped shirt with black shorts.
ThreeSixty Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 This was my first thought after the OfficalSaints tweets today.
The9 Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 New shirt will be a modernised version of our first Umbro kit http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Southampton/Southampton.htm So, just to clarify, plain equidistant mid-sized, red central striped shirt with red collars and cuffs, red trim on the black shorts, plain white socks... because otherwise, you're just saying "it's the same sort of look as the majority of Saints kits in the last 40 years". And definitely, definitely no New York Cosmos style collar...
The9 Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 This was my first thought after the OfficalSaints tweets today. Which ones ? The one mentioning the 1966 England kit question ? I can't see anything else referring to the kit at all - the England away from 2010 is in that style but it's a bit dated, they're rolling it out to random Russia sides now...
Turkish Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 This thread is 20 pages of the most pointless posts in internet forum history.
Barry the Badger Posted 22 June, 2011 Posted 22 June, 2011 I was chatting to a guy from work about Saints today, he said he'd sent a "very strongly worded letter" to the club about them releasing the kit so late. Kept banging on about missing out last year when they ran out. I pointed out that I bought mine one or two games into last season and they hadn't run out at that point, and if he was that bothered he could pre-order it. He then reverted to the "well the club aren't maximising sales" argument. I still struggle to get my head around why a fan would really care THAT much whether the club are maximising their shirt sales. If I worked at the club I would find it hard not to just laugh at people writing angry letters over the release date of a shirt.

Matthew Le God Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 We will not be getting an expanded stadium. We are in the second division. We did not sell out every game when we were here last and an didn't when we weRe in the prem. If aNd when We go up things may change. Have you listened to the interview and seen the two links? These are noises coming out of the club, not just optimistic/deluded fans. For now this thread is pointless. This is the kit thread remember. We still have a month of kit speculation fun until we find out what it looks like!

100%Red&White Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 £125 for a T-Shirt?? You mean to say when I paid seven quid for my RL Polo in Turkey last year that is wasn't genuine?!!! very good quality actually
SNOWY Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Just heard a very strong rumour' date=' from a very good source, that it's like the Air Florida shirt.[/quote'] Don't you mean the Rank Xerox kit? The players should sport Keegan style perms to complete the look.
SaintNeil90 Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 I have a feeling our shorts might be blue this year.

Saint Garrett Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 Been mentioned before I think. Apparently they've not updated since 09.
doggface Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 Yes but Adrian they had pretty much sold out of the home kit a month or so before the last home game (other than xxl xxxl etc etc) Seems very odd to me, but I assume it is for the july cutoff for club accounts. Maybe why no signings yet too?

sandwichsaint Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 My nipper has just finished his 2nd year at L'boro and one of his housemates has landed the all-time Saints-Web fantasy-gap-year-job. I kid you not - he is going to Germany for a year to 'research and design football kits' for Adidas. This ultimate non-job involves measuring, testing and researching new and match-worn kit 'up to and including Bundesliga level'. He will also be playing around on the football version of MS Paint designing new colour schemes and combos. And, horror of horrors, some hands on research actually kicking a football about while wearing said designs; all in the name of testing for feel and cut and wearability. Gecko and The 9, eat your hearts out! My nipper’s reward for two really good years in civil engineering is a twelve month placement at one of Europe’s largest waste water treatment plants, or as you and I might know it, Beckton sewage works….. no sour grapes there then.

Maybe why no signings yet too? You'd like to be running out of any product running on a one year cycle at the end of that cycle, so they got the numbers pretty much spot on I'd say - it's the only kit we've had in years which hasn't needed flogging off at the end of the season at a discount. As for not launching new stuff due to accounting periods, well THAT is insane. Maximise sales and let the accountants worry about it !
doggface Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 The current shirts are timeless. I know for a fact demand was high and they could have sold many many more.
The9 Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 (edited) The current shirts are timeless. I know for a fact demand was high and they could have sold many many more. They sold all they had for the timescale they planned, and keeping them would probably impact on sales of the new kit. A really smart move would be to get a load more in store in October and market them as retro items for Xmas and then indefinitely - but in the short term they want everything clear for the new kits. I can never work out why clubs don't insist on being able to reproduce old styles accurately for sale in their club shop when there's such a retro market and they already have the product plans out there. The sharty non-authentic retros we currently have are cack, e.g. if it looks a bit like the broad stripe kit but doesn't have a Patrick logo, why buy it ? Having said that the polyester ones are much better than the horrible cotton fails from Score Draw. Edited 24 June, 2011 by The9
doggface Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Which leads us back to the original ?uestion.... Why release the home shirt in late July when we would have had thousands sold already?
