That Sunderland away shirt is awful. I hope we don't end up with anything like that.

Spoke to my mate at Umbro. He's not saying anything other than he's seen a memo which mentioned a June launch. I think we'd already worked that out for ourselves!

I noticed this billboard ad along Millbrook Road this morning.

With talk earlier in the thread of NYC type collar etc is it more than coincidence I wonder? And in true post season 2+2= whatever you want it to equal conspiracy stylee, with the team being whisked off to the USA for their "reward" maybe we've more than just a similar kit to look forward to

In another nod to the conspiracy theorists, if you put Southampton in the search bar on the Umbro Teams page Athletico Club de Bilbao comes up (red and white stripes if you need reminding)

Given the long standing links between our fair city and the Big Apple, the fact we and the Cosmos have the same kit supplier, the rising quality of talent reportedly coming through in the the US etc etc, wouldn't it be prudent of NC to enter into some sort of relationship with the enterprise (I'm still not sure it's a club/team yet) in order that SFC can tap into its talent?

scratch that...chairman & CEO of the new outfit is Paul Kelmsley, vice-chair of Spurs so suspect saggy chops will have first dibs.

Meanwhile pre season fixture opponents are still to be announced ...

They were partly founded by dockers and sailors from Southampton who adopted their hometown club's colours (black shorts included).

It's Athletic there is no 'o'. If you said that to a Basque, you would probably get a slap. They are extremely proud of their heritage and hate Spain

Interesting (or not?!) that the umbrofootballkits page has this as it's leader...

The stripe is going the wrong way?

If wiki is to be believed nowadays ......not quite right. Fascinating story though.

Depends who put them on in the early days as in some instances they went in either direction on the same day .....if reports are to be believed.

Well not quite. They were founded in 1902 by dockers, steel workers and miners from Sunderland, Southampton and P****y, originally played in blue/white halves (a la Blackburn). In 1909 a student from Bilbao was spending Christmas in London and was asked by the club to take back 25 shirts but could not find enough. He was waiting for his ship home from Southampton and realised that Saints colours matched the colours of the City of Bilbao, so purchased 50 red/white striped shirts. 25 of these were given to Atlhletic Madrid, who were Youth team of Bilbao. Incidentally Saints were wearing Blue shorts in 1909, black shorts were not adopted until 1950.

Unlikely to be that template as it isn't in line with our ITKer's posts.

And as for the sash kit on the teamwear site, that's been there for at least 13 months.

anyone know why we traditionally release our strip after most of the other clubs? seems that way for the last few seasons anyway. I wouldn't expect any information till mind June, and a release around mid July

Cortese. We don't "traditionally" do this.

Under Lowe we usually had one launch immediately after the end of the season, and/or one a few weeks before the new season. Even though we had three kits (as per Premier League rules) we didn't ever to my recollection change all 3 at once, phasing them with the home kit changing one year and the away and third changing the next until the Umbro deal came along three years ago, which was meant to change both (of only two) kits every season.

which was meant to change both (of only two) kits every season

Which just goes to show what mugs they take fans for. Expecting people to splash out on a new [normally] red and white striped shirt every year just because we support our club.

Yet the biggest joke is so many do!

Anyone who buys a shirt because they think they have to is a mug.

Anyone who buys a shirt because they want to is not!

i agree with that but i do think there's a lack of respect in terms of changing so often from the company that makes them, it's expecting people to part with their money just through loyalty (if shirts are your thing anyway).

Surely all football fans part with their cash through loyalty whenever they turn up to watch their team??

completely, i just think the shirts are a really callous way of doing it. Especially with the pressure they put on families with kids to have the newest shirt. Personally i can justify the ticket far more than a shirt since i don't see it as such a blatant rip off mentality.

Why would we want John Rambo? He may be good at killing people but he's **** at football.

he saved a last minute penalty against the Germans once.

And it will be like this one but with a Saints badge.

I quite like this actually. But hope they don't put a stupid white box in for the sponsor, like the 09/10 kit.

On a side note. Is there an abundance of this season's kit still available? Might like to snag meself one at a discount this summer.

Home kits are still full price and only available in XXL and upwards last time I checked. The black away kit is 50% off.

Funnily enough, Hajduk split have just taken on that "overused" Umbro (Rangers away / Athletic Bilbao) template for next season too :

IMG_5998m.JPG

The shorts are decidedly 2010 (same as black/red Saints away shorts but with piping in the same colour) and the socks are as generic as can be, so it basically looks like another teamwear-type thing (though the shirt isn't yet a teamwear style I bet it is for 2012) - Umbro tend to use the older templates for non-core countries around Europe and in South America.
