Liquidshokk Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Just to keep us up to speed with what's been released for 2011/12 by Umbro so far: 1) Huddersfield 3 broad stripes with collar (based on 2010 teamwear Santos style - see above) - this might not count towards Umbro's total as it's teamwear, but it's on the Umbro Blog as a tailored by shirt... 2) Hearts away round neck with pinstripes added (basically Saints away 2010 but with pinstripes, though the collar looks different too) 3) NEW Sunderland stripes with chevron shoulders on the back 4) NEW Ireland / Bilbao away / Livingston (see previous post) 5) NEW Double chevron "V" (Canada, N. Ireland away) 6) NEW New York Cosmos 7) NEW Rangers shirt with shoulder flashes : 8 ) Sweden away (Saints current home sash shirt with V-neck) That's 5 NEW templates and Umbro released around 6 new ones last season, so I'd be surprised if they come up with anything particularly unlike one of these for us. Going back to the OP, he (eventually) said our striped shirt had a NY Cosmos collar on it (so that's template 6 but with stripes) and the away kit was yellow and blue "like Brazil", which still says the 2010/11 Forest away / Wales H / Swansea A v-neck with a single line down the sleeve to me - but that would mean more than the usual number of Umbro templates in European circulation. No.6 has the collar that our new shirt was rumoured to have some weeks ago on here....
Hatch Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 i posted this earlier This stripey sashy thing from umbro... in red /white though obviously.... case for the photoshoppers
jawillwill Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Will any of our fans be camping outside the stadium the night before it gets released like these hard core Sunderland fans (Lou and Andy?)? http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/local/loyal_fans_camp_out_to_buy_new_sunderland_kit_1_3370185
doggface Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 i posted this earlier This stripey sashy thing from umbro... in red /white though obviously.... case for the photoshoppers 1. It's bloody horrid 2. It is a 3 year old template (and looks it), so no chance
Liquidshokk Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Still amazes me that they didnt tie it in with the last game of the season or the all stars match with a launch event in the concourse like last year. would have been potential to sell to 30,000 people on last day of the season alone. Guess they are assuming they will have the demand however they do it. 1. It's bloody horrid 2. It is a 3 year old template (and looks it), so no chance 3. It really wouldn't be very flattering on some of our more "rotund" fans
Cestrian Saint Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Perhaps someone could. There's more than one template, and I think that's navy and, er, slightly different navy (ultramarine?) rather than grey. I'm only saying what it says on the hearts website. They've described it slate grey.
capitalsaint Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Would more shirts sell if we reverted to the stripes or kept the sash?
Window Cleaner Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Would more shirts sell if we reverted to the stripes or kept the sash? Stripes, plenty already have the sash and wouldn't buy another one. I'd think it pretty important to the shirt sponsors to have something a bit different this season.
Colinjb Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Would more shirts sell if we reverted to the stripes or kept the sash? Sales of a new Sash would be nowhere near this year's quantity. It worked so well because it was a one year celebration/novelty. The return to the stripes will also have a similar effect (the return to our more commonly associated strip,) and therefore sell more. I wouldn't expect sales of the new shirt to match the Sash in any case, that was a success beyond the wildest expectations of many.

Saints marketing has been **** since cortese came in imo, but I cant complain about the football!

Saints marketing has been **** since cortese came in imo, but I cant complain about the football! I saw at least two people near me who had bought the current home shirt on the last day of the season. Maybe they want to get rid of ALL current stock first. Anyone know if the home kit was reduced that weekend? Still think they missed a trick. Guess we can expect a launch event during the summer and less people will be inclined to go to stadium, what with no footy being on n all....

Unless there is intention to make better use of the stadium (our single biggest asset; players excluded) to generate revenue in the summer, and they want to link the kit launch to these plans?

Would people flock to St Marys for the next shirt though like they did for the 125th anniversary shirt with a completely overhauled design? Granted it may well be overhauled again but its not a special shirt like last year That said, I'll there for it
doggface Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 There is no way they will get 30,000 people to a kit launch, no doubt they missed a trick. No the home shirt is not and will not be reduced as the demand is so high. They only had XL sizes left and they will not be replenished. However the kit man has a stock of spar shirts which may be filtered into the club shop so watch this space.

Even if we can’t beat them on points, this shows we can beat them on loyalty.” Yeah, it doesn't really work like that.....
The9 Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 No.6 has the collar that our new shirt was rumoured to have some weeks ago on here.... I know, I spent about 3 days sticking together photoshops - it's at the start of this thread !
The9 Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 I'm only saying what it says on the hearts website. They've described it slate grey. Fair enough then, it's obviously a bluey-tinted day or something...
Turkish Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 i cant believe there has been 11 pages on this. Does anyone really care that much? When it comes out some will like it some will hate it, most will buy it regardless of if it's the best or worst kit since time began.

Turkish Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 "Even if we cant beat them on points, we can beat them on pure pointless activities due to the kit still being in stock if they strolled into the club shop at 11am on Thursday." A totally pointless excercise, a pair of idiots. It's almost as pointless a queuing through the night for tickets for an FA Cup game against Manchester United which didn't sell out.
The9 Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 I saw at least two people near me who had bought the current home shirt on the last day of the season. Guess we can expect a launch event during the summer and less people will be inclined to go to stadium, what with no footy being on n all.... Home kit has remained at full price all season, and there are only kids' sizes and XL and upwards left. The away kit was reduced to 25% off in March and then to 50% off in April.
The9 Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 (edited) I'd like an away kit like the Brazil kit. Gives us our yellow and blue, but good versions of the colours. Also, the current Brazil away kit is lovely too. http://www.sportsdirect.com/nike-brazil-away-shirt-2011-371392?src=google But then add a sponsor and it'd probably look ****. The key thing with this shirt, and any shirt is fitting the sponsor in appropriately. With aap3 it's fine if it's done in red and white and it fits the kit, just need to make sure it's not the tacky 'stuck on patch' approach. It needs to be properly encorporated into the shirt. But nothing looks more tacky than a big colourful Flybe on your shirt, or that Hearts one above with Wonga on it. Doesn't matter how good or bad the shirt is when you have that ruining it. The current Brazil kit (the green "loading bar" one) has some yellow patterned bits that look like a sort of waffle pattern that are very similar to the yellow parts on that navy Saints away on the cuffs and bottom of the reverse of the shirt. But I don't think it's that one that the OP was referring to, I think it was the 2009/10 one which looks a bit like the current Man U kit - and looks like a lot of current Umbro away shirts. The problem Saints have on any striped home kit is that often the sponsor won't be decided until after the shirt is chosen, so it'll look bolted on for the first season of a new sponsor at least. Examples Saints have had are the first Friends Provident kit (the reverse Ajax style with the horrible blue logo and white/blue patch), the appalling Dimplex panel on that ugly Pony tick kit (especially on the away shirt where it was white with red writing for no apparent reason on a light blue jersey) and the first Umbro kit (which wasn't even the first season of flybe, so there was really NO excuse for the stuck-on plasticky patch). djharvey Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Actually quite like the chevron design of canada, n-ireland & bohemians. Could turn out to be a big seller like the sash.

deadpanmatt Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 the appalling Dimplex panel on that ugly Pony tick kit (especially on the away shirt where it was white with red writing for no apparent reason on a light blue jersey I love that old Dimplex kit! Our new sponsor was decided quite a while ago, plenty of time to make sure it doesn't look 'bolted on'.
djharvey Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 I'd like to see it in yellow / blue. Fortunately I have Photoshop open... Nice one, would be great if you could do a few varations (yellow/blue, red/white etc).
The9 Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Last home kit (with added shorts and socks in the latest Umbro style but stripes as with 2010 West Brom template) Same shirt with randomly chosen stripe pattern (based loosely on the current away stripe thickness) Away kit using Canada template
SuperMikey Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Would be very happy with the last 2, i'm not sure about the new collar on the home kit though...

It's pointless.
AussieDog Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Why are you doing this? It's pointless. oh, the irony....lol.....surely commenting on something pointless is pointless in itself??
The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 Why are you doing this? It's pointless. It helps people visualise the stuff that's being discussed, and I like doing kit design stuff. I agree with you to a point though, which is why I try to base all of my Photoshops on actual current Umbro designs rather than just throwing out gash like "what would it look like with purple spots" and stuff like that. I will accept that the yellow shirt, whilst nice and in the expected Saints colours, isn't likely to happen - but the shorts and socks are certainly possible, and the home shirt could well be close, depending on how accurate the OP's comments are. Which reminds me, I haven't done the yellow/blue in the current Umbro Wales/Swansea/Forest away style.
The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 (edited) Here's the "Brazil style" I think the OP was referring to, with new short and socks styles. Bit of weirdness in the colour matching on the dark blue, it's the same colour but the lighting effect makes it look a different blue on the shorts. Edited 13 May, 2011 by The9 "t" missing from lighting.
doggface Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 The9 can you do the Ireland Away in Yellow & Blue. I love this design and reckon it would look smart.
Pilchards Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 The best kit I've seen so far is the new Coventry one. Mock that info a red and white and we have a winner.
alehouseboys Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 I reckon 'The9' aint too far away with those designs. From what I've heard it's back to stripes and yellow away.
The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 The best kit I've seen so far is the new Coventry one. Mock that info a red and white and we have a winner. Three problems with that : 1) It's made by Puma not Umbro 2) It's bespoke for Coventry (and based on a previous Coventry kit) so there would be no logic in making it for Saints 3) It's not striped. I do like it though, the white sponsor on the light blue kit is a nice touch.
The9 Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 The9 can you do the Ireland Away in Yellow & Blue. I love this design and reckon it would look smart. As yet I haven't seen a template out there for it, will have a look around, failing that if I have time I'll have a go at making one.

Cestrian Saint Posted 13 May, 2011 Posted 13 May, 2011 Why are you doing this? It's pointless. It's a bit of harmless fun. That's all. FWIW I'd like to see the yellow shirt trimmed with black and red, or green. There should be no blue in any Saints shirt!

There should be no blue in any Saints shirt! I hate crappy Brazil wannabe shirts far more than blue bits. Notts County away this season, made by Nike, yellow with green trim, made them look like the least imaginative team ever (which ironically the team perpertuated). The "we want to look like Brazil" look should have been banned after Crystal Palace did it in the late 80s. You've got a weird relationship with Saints kit history, hating red sleeves for the 2005 relegation despite other teams in red sleeves doing very well season in, season out (and Saints themselves doing well with red sleeves in the 1980s), and not wanting blue in any Saints shirt despite the notable blueness of the trim on the yellow 1976 Cup Final kit.

Matthew Le God Posted 14 May, 2011 Posted 14 May, 2011 (edited) Then why did Saints win this game 3-1? Saints stopped scoring after they changed at halftime and they got their goal in the second half. Conclusive proof! Edited 14 May, 2011 by Matthew Le God
The9 Posted 14 May, 2011 Posted 14 May, 2011 (edited) My pleasure. If you could pass it on the Alex Ferguson as well, might help. Edited 14 May, 2011 by The9 Oh FFS, MLG was googling for a pic all that time :O(
