Bloody hell all this cloak and dagger stuff over a sodding football shirt.

The fuss that is being made,what with the secrecy and all that,the club are setting themselves up for a fall if it proves one of the least popular reincarnations of a striped shirt.

It is not a matter of national security FFS,just sell it for gods sake...and let the people see what they are buying.

Laughable.

I do wonder,what with Sibleys 'read between the lines' tweet that there may well have been a balls up somewhere along the line.

Everytime i see that picture it turns my stomach,i should just find it funny...but to me it reminds me of some of the darkest hours in Saints history.

We were run by clowns that nearly ruined us.

I give it a week before they release one of those 'sneak peek' teasers showing a small photo of a piece of the kit - they'll have to do something otherwise can't see that many fans jumping in blind to pre-order.

you could be right as the official photographs were taking at the stadium yesterday

To those saying maybe last minute Cortese has seen the design and sent it back:

Jordan Sibley tweeted on March the 17th 2011:

"Have just had a sneak peak at next season's home shirt. Can't say anything about it, but reasons why will become obvious soon... #saintsfc"

http://twitter.com/#!/jordansibley/status/48431921662926848

I think the "reasons will become obvious soon" thing was partially related to the aap3 sponsorship which was announced that week. Or possibly they were planning to run the "Stripes?" ad campaign a lot sooner, in which case "can't say anything" was down to the ad campaign being based around "maybe stripes".

There is definitely no logical reason for launching home and away kits within 3 weeks of each other, which we will need to do as Barnsley away will (probably) be a colour clash. But at least the second kit will be in a different month, so people will have been paid again.

I've heard that as part of our 5 year plan we will be having a series if seasons with kits celebrating our history. First it was the sash. This season will be red and white quarters. Next season a keegan style Air Florida shirt, then back to traditional stripes, followed by a replica of our UEFA cup shirt to celebrate our debut in the Champions League.

Boo!! What about the Hummel Red and Pink Danish pyjamas?

Wonder if they've considered simply reversing the sash shirt colours - red shirt, White sash. Stranger things have happened....

Hmmm no, that would be pretty strange IMO!

That kit is viscious

It's certainly attacking my sensibilities. It looks like it was put together by a 7-year old who's never seen a football kit before, and especially not any recent Umbro ones.

Umbro haven't had a kit with their logo only on the sleeve for years. The number on the front isn't even allowed by FL rules, and isn't in the style of the Football League numbers either. The sponsor is too big to be legal, and somehow straddles three different colours of the shirt. And of course it's barely red. The badge has loads of pixellisation around it, and it's just a crappy Photoshop (maybe even from Paint) from someone with no clue and is already getting far too much credibility by people remotely thinking it might be legitimate.

I also heard that. But I like to ignore the voices I invent in my head.

Surely we are not allowed by law to carry brand sponsorship for beer on our shirts?

The Irish connection ensures we'll be in orange & white stripes and green shorts. If nothing else it'll show Coor's that the designer we used at Umbro was downing plenty of their amber juice.

I got a phone call from the megastore yesterday regarding the printing on my nephews shirt, the guy was doing it there and then, this does beg the question as to why they wont let us see them if not only a decision has been made but they have them in store!?!

The answer to that one is "marketing".

Nice to know the club actually has them already though. Now if we can just find someone who isn't a club employee and hasn't signed an NDA...

Also, I wonder if the only pressing machine they have for numbers is the one in the Megastore at the ground, or if the kitman has his own behind the scenes - was this during opening hours ?

You didn't happen to ask what colour the numbers were did you ? My money's on black, of course... :rolleyes:

Really surprised a photo hasnt been leaked yet if its about in the megastores already. Not even confirmation of kit style has got out. Ooh the (unnecesary) suspense.

Please point us to the "months of bickering"...

Just go back in this thread and read the host of previous posts. If you like, you can replace the word bickering with speculation. Only if you're being pedantic, of course.

incidentally, until the club announced yesterday that the sponsorship had just started, everyone had assumed it was already under way (as indicated by the links on the OS and aap3's website for the previous 3 months).

Really? I wasn't consulted on that! I assumed the sponsorship deal had not kicked in yet, suggested by the lack of a new shirt for sale.

And yes, that England keeper kit is pretty grim!

I see Brighton have opted for Green on their away shirt. They're obviously hoping to follow in the footsteps of Norwich & QPR who were both promoted wearing green in their away shirts last season. lol

I would definitely use "speculation", which means "guesswork" instead of "bickering" which means "arguing". And I'd also suggest there is a significant, as opposed to slight, difference in the two. Particularly on a thread on which very few people have actually seen the kit, so no-one's going to know they're definitely right - it makes for a much more laid back discussion when no-one's convinced they're right and knows anything they say can be proven or disproven at a specific time in the near future.

As for the sponsorship, there was a thread on here literally the day before Saints said "the new sponsorship starts today" in which Matthew Le God (of all people) said something akin to "if the sponsorship hasn't started yet, why is the aap3 logo on the OS with the words official club sponsor under it ?". So until July 1 everyone had assumed the sponsorship had already begun and there was no reason for the club not to have launched a kit with the sponsor on it.

Actually, even if the sponsorship hadn't officially begun there was no particular reason for the club not to have launched the kit with the sponsor on it, they'd already announced who it was going to be, anyway.

Seems that the club genuinely is doing everything it can to get all of the income into the 2011/12 accounting pot, for reasons I can only assume are to do with the new financial rules.

FWIW I was in the club shop in West Quay last night and the stripe logos in use on the website are splashed all over the windows too.

They are. like the ads on the website, one white background with red stripes and one black background with red stripes... it wouldn't take a massive leap to consider the home kit to be red and white stripes and the away kit to be red and black - I'm also wondering whether the "thin" stripes in the central band in the adverts might indicate that there will be normal sized stripes comprised of the thinner stripes.

e.g. something that looks like this (without the dots) :

|||||||||.............. ||||||||||............... |||||||||||

|||||||||.............. ||||||||||............... |||||||||||

|||||||||.............. ||||||||||............... |||||||||||

|||||||||.............. ||||||||||............... |||||||||||

|||||||||.............. ||||||||||............... |||||||||||

Pure speculation on my part though. I might mock up something if a day or two when I have time.

New reading home shirt looks real smart!

Bog standard Puma template they're using for everyone this season with the two stripes around the shoulder area with hoops added - but nicer than some of the gash they've had recently.

Image removed as there's not much point duplicating the post which just appeared above...

I do hope we are aware of just how much Saints fans are anti plain backed shirts... that Reading reminds me of Carl Zeiss Jena at Somerton Park in 1981 (from a previous life...).

What about if, instead of the stripes being made up of smaller stripes, they were made up of stars or crosses, hence the 'stars in stripes' campaign?

I think the kits will have loads of dots all over them and come with a dot-to-dot user suggestion manual. We can then join them up as we see fit, ensuring we all have more individual shirts. Those who want stripes can do stripes. Those who want a sash can do a sash, etc, etc.

Then I will eat Pat from Poole's garage.

That's genius. Criminally insane, but genius. People could practise by using the crosses on the shoulders of the current England home kit too.

There's been a lot of **** mockups on this thread, but this has to be the worst. Where are the sleeves?

The future. Spudgun has predicted the future. All kits from this day will be produced like this.

I can't tell you my source, but trust me, this is a recreation of one of the pages from the suggestion booklet that will come with the new shirt.

It's about what they've paid for. If they've only paid for their name to be on the shirt from July, then it'll only be on the shirt from July. That's enough reason for the club not to have launched the shirt earlier.

And sure, speculation is a better word for it. I think whichever way you look at it far too much time has been wasted 'speculating' about it. Speaking of which...

That Reading shirt is disgusting, I cant believe they have the nerve to think they wear hoops.

I think it's pretty nice, though they have sold out regarding the single colour backs for some time now.
