The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 (edited) Here's the new Forest home kit : Another one using the straight shoulder hoop style template with the curved sleeve panel as seen with Livingston and the light blue Sunderland away, though with the traditional collar and no contrast colours. I suspect our away will either be this style with a blue shoulder panel or the sash template. Plain shorts shown here could be England 2009 away kit style OR the new ones like Sunderland have, again with a same colour panel where Sunderland has a contrast red flash on black. Socks are already in use, they're currently the Wales home socks (available for £3 in JJB to any budding Nottingham-based entrepreneurs). It does mean we MIGHT get hooped socks again though... EDIT : Actually, strike that, they've changed the colour of the foot-piece to grey, so actually they're different (barely) to the Wales socks, which have white toes and heel, and a red foot. So the 2011 Umbro sock has a grey foot and ankle section. Er, lovely. You an also see the grey on the Sunderland socks which are a new style : As are their change socks : Edited 3 June, 2011 by The9 New info
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 (edited) Oh, and here's the new Umbro goalkeeper template - first time I've seen it. Kelvin / Bart will almost certainly have a version of this. Sunderland keeper's shirt is the opposite, but same pattern : Edited 3 June, 2011 by The9
Saint_clark Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Wow. Are Umbro really that unimaginative that they used the same template for all their clubs with different/reversed colours?
the wedge Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 I hate Umbro's goalkeeper shirts. It's like they spent all their time on the outfield players' shirts and left the keeper's ones to the last minute.
jam Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Wow. Are Umbro really that unimaginative that they used the same template for all their clubs with different/reversed colours? Just cheaper for them, isn't it?
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 (edited) Wow. Are Umbro really that unimaginative that they used the same template for all their clubs with different/reversed colours? They usually have about 4 "new" templates in rotation, with a few from the previous seasons. As for the keepers' kits, the last few seasons they've had two styles - the Tailored used by England / Man City, and the bog standard one used by everyone else. Saints' keeper shirts for the last 2 seasons are the same as everyone else's, other than that there's a yellow shirt, a red one and I think maybe a black one, and some black shorts as well as the all green and all light blue Kelv has worn. Same style, different colours. Actually the Sunderland keeper socks are the same style as their outfielders' home socks with 2 hoops, so that's a major departure compared to last season when all the keepers had the same stuff throughout except Joe Hart !!! I'd also point out that with outfield kits the Sunderland away, Livingston home and away and Forest home all have different collars that make them a little more different. The Athletic Bilbao one is the same as well, same collar as Livingston : Edited 3 June, 2011 by The9
ericb Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 I really like that Athletic Bilbao shirt, got a feeling it was probably the original design since it incorporates the Basque flag into it. Saying that i don't think it'd work for us really.
Crab Lungs Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Have to say, Umbro really are utter turd design-wise.
doggface Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Disagree crabbie, most people who are sad like me about kits regard them as the best around right now!
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Have to say, Umbro really are utter turd design-wise. I think they're by far the most conventionally interesting shirts I've seen this close-season - they're almost all of my favourites, with the exception of the Reebok design Bolton have got - and I only like that because it's different without being stupidly patterned. Though Umbro only have about 4 new designs they're all simple and can be easily varied. Adidas just have a few templates for hundreds of teams which they "vary" by slapping an ugly print over the top of, or just have teams look the same - Umbro seem to go out of their way to avoid pointless print patterns OR teams getting the same kits in the exact same colours. Nike have just been dull recently, or in the case of the Brazil and France shirts, pointless. Who needs a random green bar or turnover contrast cuffs ? Sheesh.
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Disagree crabbie, most people who are sad like me about kits regard them as the best around right now! Agreed. Traditional but varied, and useful design without much pointless innovation. Watch them churn out a photofit or a nightmare for Saints now.

Give me a slapped-on, ugly print any day I too like minimalistic but some of the kits I've seen so far have been utterly, utterly horrifying. And if they're not horrifying, they're boring... and as for what they've done with the Sunderland home kit and Rangers away... But still, I reserve judgement on ours, of course... but I'm not expecting anything other than some horrible generic template with inverted colours.

Weirdly I quite like the Marseille away, which is the most slapped-on ugly print of the lot - but at least it doesn't have pointless red/green/yellow stripes on it like last year's. I like the Sunderland home, the diagonal bit on the back is a none-too-bothersome design feature and the rest is exactly what anyone would want. And I haven't seen the Rangers away yet. But I bet it's nicer than the horrendous Nike - thick/thin stripe concept Celtic and Barcelona are having to wear.
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Forgot to copy this one in as well - same shoulder curve template again... Hearts home. Just seen that Swansea are going to adidas, as are West Brom, so that's two that Umbro have lost as well as gaining League One's most recently defeated team, Huddersfield...
The9 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Also, as I'm waiting for something, here's the back of the Man City kit (the long sleeved version, which weirdly has black from the "sleeve" onwards) : Here's the City away sock (see a trend yet?) : And the (Joe Hart special) away keeper kit :
Deppo Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Just been sent this leaked image. Is this definitely the new kit? I like it.
Right sider Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Just been sent this leaked image. Is this definitely the new kit? I like it. I do believe someone will bite, but not me. Probably find out next week. Cosmos collar is the only real info we have.
Charlie Wayman Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 We are Swiss owned. Roger Federer always wears a plain Swiss-Red shirt and White shorts so let's guess that we'll be in a Red shirt with a White sash next season and White shorts and White socks. We always do well in white socks. No Black. Just a variation of gym kit. Well, I only get three a day so might as well use them all....
Badger Posted 5 June, 2011 Posted 5 June, 2011 Out of interest does the sash continue on the back of the Peru shirt ?
Katalinic Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 The club crest is not changing, just reverting back to the pre-125 anniversary version.
The Kraken Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 The club crest is not changing, just reverting back to the pre-125 anniversary version. Shame, our crest is pretty rubbish really. It doesn't even represent our history, as its only been around for about 40 years or so. But then, going for a new crest brings in all sorts of risks that any new one would be even worse!
SuperMikey Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 The club crest is not changing, just reverting back to the pre-125 anniversary version. What information is that based on? Lots of others have said that Cortese is looking to change the crest to something more formal. I'd love to see this crest on our new shirt:

doggface Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 Other than nick illingsworth, where the hell did changing the crest come from. This is highly unlikely, the saints trust uses a version of the badge also. I just cannot see it any time soon.
doggface Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 I like the cosmos collar. Other than new York cosmos I have not seen it used anywhere else though. Hoping your right!

I'd love to see this crest on our new shirt: Hell no. We escaped lightly when they changed our badge - only changing the ball. Loads of teams have changed their badges in the past few years. Why?? Shirts come and go and the badge is what sticks to a club. Look at Brighton - gone back their original badge.

Saints badge (with slight tweaks to it)... ...has only been in use for 37 years, or roughly 30% of the clubs history. For 70% of Southampton's history has seen the club use a different badge (one of which you dismissed). So your theory that "shirts come and go the badge is what sticks to a club" is nonsense if you use Saints as evidence. Edited 6 June, 2011 by Matthew Le God

Matthew Le God Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 Its been that way since I was born. So it has, but that doesn't mean you are right to say "shirts come and go the badge is what sticks to a club". 37 seasons out of 125 seasons is not that much to say it sticks and should do indefinitely. Surely if clubs should stick with badges, Saints would still use the one from 1885, and not 1974 like you want?
doggface Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 I like the Hampshire roses too, but I think for the vast majority we had NO badge on the shirt.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 I like the Hampshire roses too, but I think for the vast majority we had NO badge on the shirt. The club still had a badge even when there wasn't one on the shirt.

Why?? Shirts come and go and the badge is what sticks to a club. Look at Brighton - gone back their original badge. The fact that lots of teams have (as you rightly say) changed their badges suggests that badges are not what sticks to a club. Badges are no different to a normal company's logo; they can become outdated, and in normal industry companies will change their logo to keep updated with current trends. A football club really shouldn't be all that different, should it? Take Leeds as an example; a large club with a wealth of history. They have had numerous changes of badge throughout the past 50 years or so; Our badge looks exactly like what it is; an amateur effort. Changing badge doesn't mean we're forgetting our history; I don't know why some people are so precious about it.

Badger Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 (edited) In case these have not previously appeared on here, two further Umbro striped efforts are now revealed : Hajduk Split: and interestingly for you 'collar watchers', Santos: Edited 6 June, 2011 by Badger
SaintNeil90 Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 The foreign ones are never the same as the UK ones.
CityRanger Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 (edited) like the Hadjuk one myself... Just looked back through the posts and it's got the same collar as Notts Forest's new kit. Prefer it (the collar) to the Santos one above. Don't wear the shirts myself but think our lads would look pukka in the Had Split kit in our colours. Edited 6 June, 2011 by CityRanger

Matthew Le God Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Kelvin should hope Umbro don't take any inspiration from the stationary cupboard at head-office like Reebok do...

DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Kelvin should hope Umbro don't take any inspiration from the stationary cupboard at head-office like Reebok do... I`d hate to be a bolton supporter, their shirts have been hideous for ages.
The9 Posted 8 June, 2011 Posted 8 June, 2011 Well, we still don't know what it is going to look like, but we DO know when they'll first be wearing it : http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2372946,00.html
Saint_Jimmy Posted 8 June, 2011 Posted 8 June, 2011 Unless its a new away kit that will be unveiled and worn that day.
