dune Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Any recomendations of good cheap hotels (preferably with free parking) within walking distance of the city centre/ground?
toofarnorth Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Etap is cheap. Have stayed in ones by the side of the motorway in Germany and they were fine, but dont know what this ones like.
miserableoldgit Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Could be a problem:- http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?29293-Southampton-tomorrow
hamster Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Dune, I would recommend The Winston. The pub on the corner of Archers road near the Dell. Pub grub, comfy homely rooms and beer. Free parking and a easy gentle strollmonto town. Mention my name for a 10% surcharge. Seriouksy they are good mate.
SuperMikey Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 There's a Premier Inn/Travel Lodge (I forget which) half way between the city centre and SMS, you could save a bit of £££ and stay there.
Fan The Flames Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 I've done Jurys - cold, bad bed and an argument for charging me for 2 nights instead of one - took me a week to get my money back. De Vere very nice and got a good deal.
SNSUN Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Stayed in the Premier Inn last season and watched the Pompey vs Saints riots outside from the window. Was very nice, the bed doesn't squeak either, the missus on the other hand...

Fan The Flames Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Jury's was fine for me... You obviously like a hard bed or aren't as fat as I am and quite a lot of places are cold now that we are in a recession. The hotel was very nice, stay ruined by their inability to charge me the right amount.

To be honest I was too ******ed to notice whether the room had a bed, let alone whther it was hard or soft...
doubleonothing Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 My Company used to use the Jury's a lot but are going for the Holiday Inn by dock gate 8 now. Never had a problem with the Jury's when I stayed there. The ETAP is bloody awful and I would only stay there again if all the other hotel rooms in and around Southampton were full! Premier Inn is ok as is the Southampton Park Hotel but you have to pay for parking in the multi next door.
ottery st mary Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Bannister Park near Hulse Road/ Archers Road junction...

The only problem i can see when i went to mock book it it didn't include breakfast. Wheras Eaton court does and it's got really good reviews. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186299-d1210651-Reviews-Eaton_Court-Southampton_Hampshire_England.html As for other recomendations i've looked at the jurys inn and it looks a bit pricey and there's no free parking and breakfast is extra.

I live 30 seconds from the winston. Happy to pop some toast and preserves around at a time that suites you.

stevegrant Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 Do they still have a good pool table? This could clinch the deal. They have a pool table - whether it's a good one or not, I'm not too sure! Re the Etap, I found it to be fine, at the end of the day, you usually get what you pay for. If you only want somewhere to stick your head for a few hours then it's ideal. If you're after room service and your arse wiped, it's not so ideal.
paris Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 And the IBIS near the station ?? i'm coming for mums 80th soon ....
Hamilton Saint Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 We've stayed at the Premier Inn, located at 6 Dials, New Road. Fine and reasonably priced.
dannysfc Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 If I get a lift to the game with my Mate then we normally park in the Insitute which is 5-10 mins from the ground which is Pretty Good Tbh so you should find somewhere there if this helps but Good Luck and I hope you find somewhere for the game tonight dune Mate! COYR !!

suewhistle Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 The only problem i can see when i went to mock book it it didn't include breakfast. The only time I've had breakfast was when staying in same hotel as aged parents had thus had an early and sober night!
pap Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 I was down at the Premier Inn on NYE last year with my family. Parking is £5 a night, the place is full of prostitutes ( my youngest actually said "Dad, I think I've just seen my first hooker" as we pulled into the lobby ), and if you go 50 yards off-site in two directions, you're liable to get a slap. For the last two observations, I think you should stay there Dune. You obviously need both.
SaintBobby Posted 5 April, 2011 Posted 5 April, 2011 We've stayed at the Premier Inn, located at 6 Dials, New Road. Fine and reasonably priced. Seconded. No frills. But perfectly adequate.
