simo Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Really looking forward to this now but am I the only one who's nerves are wearing thin? Its almost like our old relegation scraps but with the confidence yesterdays come back will bring I recon we will have a comfortable 2 nil win !
simo Posted 3 April, 2011 Author Posted 3 April, 2011 Also think its time for a performance like our Xmas period games ?
Saint_lambden Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Our toughest home game left on paper but we should still brush them aside. We need to start performing in the first half again because it's a dangerous ame to play to leave all the work to the last 45 mins , as nearly proven yesterday. 2-0 or 2-1 Saints.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Charlton have gone 75 games without a no score draw so i predict 0-0
SNSUN Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 What if we lose then win the next few? I can't help but think it's not bust until the season finishes, but what do i know. Bwp will score. We need to attack them, their defence is poor. Need some pace, forte or nguessan. Can't drop lambert or Barnard really so tough to see where to change it, unless forte plays out wide. We're not bust from the autos unless we're 4 points behind after the penultimate game, 7 points behind the game before that etc etc I don't think we'll Lose this. A fairly easy win here on home turf, less of the rollercoaster ride!
Saint_John Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 1/ I may give Frazer a start; - he looked fresh on Saturday compared to Danny who imo was about 75% to blame for the 2nd goal; - he will also be playing against his old club and will want to do well. Also, with Dean on 9 booking we have got to think about who can play anchor in midfield if Dean is suspended. I believe Danny has done that in the past and it may be good to give him a rest for a game before asking him to change roles. 2/ The ref is a Mr T Bates (Tony not Ted) No Saints games this season. Last season - 2-0 v Yeovil (2 pens) 3/ Charlton have just played 8 games in March, i.e. Tuesday and Saturday every week bar Tues 15th.
Pugwash Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Davis Butterfield Fonte Jaidi Harding Forte Hammond Stephens Lallana Lambert Barnard I'd go with that. I was a bit surprised that Butterfield was subbed by Richardson yesterday, was he injured? Or does NA think Richardson/Forte is a better combo?
Made in Southampton Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 I'm going for a straight forward 4-0 win for saints which will get every fan creaming in their pants.
Dazza82 Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Id go for: Davis Richardson Fonte Jaidi Harding Guly Chaplow Hammond Lallana Barnard Lambert Subs Bart Butterfield Seaborne Stephens Forte Connolly Gobern Thats gives us a strong side, with cover at RB,LB and CB with Butterfield and Seaborne. Pace with Forte who can play wide or up top and Gobern who also can play wide or in the middle, Stephens is a bit unknown to me, and Connolly is a goalscorer if needed
georgeismyname Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 ------------------------------Davis------------------------------ Butterfield-----------Fonte--------------Jaidi--------------Harding Stephens-----------Hammond---------Chaplow-------------Lallana ----------------------Barnard---------Lambert-------------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Seaborne, Gobern, Guly, Connolly, Forte, N'Guessan Plenty of attacking options from the bench, although admittedly with the sacrifice of Richardson. 2-0 win
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 The last two home games have seen us fans singing from all around the ground and, as NA says, it boosts the team. It's really enjoyable, even where I am in the chapel we are getting people singing. Let's just keep this up. Pressure on the opposition from four sides plus our lads giving their all on the pitch. If we go a goal down? Let's ratchet up the volume even louder!
Roger Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 ------------------------------Davis------------------------------ Butterfield-----------Fonte--------------Jaidi--------------Harding Stephens-----------Hammond---------Chaplow-------------Lallana ----------------------Barnard---------Lambert-------------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Seaborne, Gobern, Guly, Connolly, Forte, N'Guessan Plenty of attacking options from the bench, although admittedly with the sacrifice of Richardson. 2-0 win Chaplow has been rubbish for a while now. Shouldnt play. Forte should start and maybe richardson. Plus martin should be on bench not seaborne.
CWD Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Davis Butterfield Fonte Jaidi Harding Forte Hammond Stephens Lallana Lambert Barnard Bloody good team that. Especially with the likes of Richardson, Guly, Chaplow and Connolly on the bench
Saint_Jonny Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 win or bust imo Retard. I'll take 3 infraction points to go please.
LGTL Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Retard. I'll take 3 infraction points to go please. He's just trying to be (un)funny.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 although i think we should play our most strongest squad and get the points on the board asap to put the pressure on huddersfeild but maybe we should replace jaidi with either martin or seabourne in order to save him for the much harder away game at the weekend. maybe dop chaplow or guly for forte or dale? what ever the line up they should be focused and good enough to win. just hope defense tightens up abit and don't lose concentration again. might be another frustrating game with a 10man defense sitting deep so we home fans must continue the great support and not get on the players back or give up early. for me i would play Davis Butters Fonte Seaborne Harding Forte Chaplow Hammond Lallana Lambert Barnard
Saint_Jonny Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 He's just trying to be (un)funny. Yea I know, he was being funny in the last build up thread. It winds people up if they dont know hes doing it. Ho hum.
Andyb1 Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Don't suppose anyone is driving down from London and willing to give a lift are they? I'd be more than happy to help with petrol costs....
dubai_phil Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 OK they drew with us up there, but Charlton were woeful. Chaplow had a headless chicken day so replace him with Stephens and maybe more of our passes might reach our players. Guly really did not look like a RM player up there and the Diamond wasn't effective until he came off yet by many reports we didn't actually play badly in that set up. So what to do? Start with Guly or give Forte his first full run-out. Think he'll go with Guly as Forte still won't be fully match fit yet and more likely to have an impact again against a tiring defence. If he's up to it would start with Jaidi, and also ask whether Butters sub was tactical or a slight knock ...........................KD...................... SaintNeil90 Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I see loads of people are now starting Forte. Surely he should be used as an impact substitution again.
goodymatt Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I see loads of people are now starting Forte. Surely he should be used as an impact substitution again. What does Forte have to do to earn a start though? Score 2 goals in a minute? Guly sounded poor on the radio, i'd play the player in form. Surely he's earned a crack?
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 1-0 will do. Would be nice to score in the first half for a change.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I am glad charlton won on saturday as otherwise they would have broken there duck against us for sure. Need a 90 minute performance as this wont be an easy game. They have a slow and weak defense but they have some good attacking options so we need to pin them back and pressure them until they buckle. If we play 4-4-2 I think we should be ok. The diamond makes me nervous particulary with Guly and Chaplow seemingly off colour.

yorkie Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Strange feelings about tomorrow's game. The problem is we played some nice stuff but lacked a cutting edge for the first 20-mins on Saturday but still managed to get it right in the end. I really believe if we get one early goal we will hit plenty. Charlton are no mugs - but are a team low on confidence. Sure they have BWP who will do his best to spoil the party - but he did that last time! Confident that we will amass another 3-points, continue this rich vein of form and finish the night 2-points behind Huddersfield (who aren't playing) with 2-games in hand. A draw is not a disaster but if we really want it - a draw is a poor excuse of a performance! Allowing for officials to be at their usual diabolical standard is something we can't allow for - perhaps Rickie & Barney will get a bit of joy and get a free kick or two. They seem to get kicked about week in and week out with very little protection. Saying all that an 89th minute dodgey penalty to us to win 1-0 would do me...but not sure about my nerves being able to cope with that!
Johnny Shearer Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I don't see this as being an easy game. This game along with the eight others will not be good on my nerves!
Chez Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 having played them recently they will know all about us and that might contribute to a tight game. I realise Butterfield has been playing well, but his lack of pace is still a concern for me as was shown with the second goal. Not for the first time in recent weeks a winger has had to do next to nothing to beat him. Hopefully Charlton did not notice. Chaplow has been so out of form its not true, but his forward running will inevitably tire opponents out even if he doesn't get on the end of things so I'm temped to keep him in the side. I notice everyone has picked Jaidi despite it being two games in just a few days. Impossible to drop him showing what a very good season he has had.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Is N'Guessan injured? I'm N'Guessan so........... haha what am I like!?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Retard. I'll take 3 infraction points to go please. Im sorry

Lighthouse Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 ---------------------- Davis --------------------- Frazer ------- Martin ------- Fonte ------- Harding Butters -----Stephens -----Hammond ------Lallana -------------Lambert ------- Barnard ------------ Subs: Bart, Jaidi, Guly, Chaplow, Forte, Dickson, Connolly I'd give Jaidi a rest, especially seeing as their main threat is BWP who really isn't all that when it comes to strength and aerial threat. I'd drop Guly and Chaplow from Saturday and I think Forte is more of an impact player.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 If Jaidi is rested I would play Seaborne over Martin, who is a good prospect but still raw.
Lighthouse Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I can't remember watching Martin play a bad game. Seaborne on the other hand had a 'mare up against a bit of pace at Posh.
rooney Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 I hope Jaidi can play as I recall BWP was terrified of big Darren Moore when we played Barnsley at home in the Championship.
del boy Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 There is some very re-assuring information on the BBC website: "Southampton will close to within two points of second-placed Huddersfield with victory over Charlton" I didn't realise it was already confirmed, but thats good news. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/12930681.stm?

You have misread it, makes sense how it is. "With a victory", Saints go within two points of 2nd.
Andy Durman Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Should see how Charlton have got on against Oldham and how good was Stephens.
Andy Durman Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Last year Charlton drew 1-1 with Oldham at home. Did Stephens play and did he control midfield?
Saint Charlie Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Last year Charlton drew 1-1 with Oldham at home. Did Stephens play and did he control midfield? It was a virtuoso performance from Stephens, an air of Steven Gerrard about him that day.
mitch01 Posted 4 April, 2011 Posted 4 April, 2011 Really want a convincing 3-0 for this one, my nerves can't take any more games like Saturday.

The Cortese Tax puts people off buying in advance and then we're reliant on people making decisions on the day. Often they'll have spent the money or just think f/ck it i'll save the money.
