doddisalegend Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 In my opinion it was far from a pathetic performance; it was one of those games were you wonder how we're 2-0 down as we were playing quite well, we just lacked a cutting-edge until Adkins made the changes, and seemed to try to walk it in rather than shoot for some reason in the first half. I always used to think I was a 'half-empty' sort of bloke but compared to some of the fannies on here I'm positively happy-clappy.... We were good first 5mins then we huffed and puffed without really threatening far too many stray passes or aimless punts great crosses from Harding but noone was actually in the oppostion box to do anything about it. Poor marking for there first goal and Butters couldn't keep up with the guy for their second. Subs changed everything Dale brought some calm to the midfield with some decent passing and Forte managed to do what our players had been struggling with all match which was to get himself in the box. We won which is great. The crux of this thread though is people aren't allowed to be ****ed off at being 2-0 down at home after 50mins which is quite frankly ******.... Alain Perrin Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 In fairness I was there and we were s hit (oh look yet another aimless crossfield pass to no one, fantastic) until Nigel made his inspired subs. Maybe Deppo should have been at SMS getting upset with all the saints fans there who were ****ed off........... I reckon some of the posters on here would still be laughing and smiling as someone fed their c ocks through a garden shredder ..........Honestly most football fans get upset at being 0-2 down I find the ones that don't to be the odd ones HTBH. That's BS. We played some good stuff in the first half but without any end product. Trying to score the perfect goal when being more direct would have perhaps helped. It's not being ****ed off when we're 2-0 down that's the problem, it's the defeatist, throw in the towel attitude of a percentage of our fanbase - half of whom aren't even listening. Making a judgement based on a text FFS! Fortunately the fans in stadium didn't give up, and for that they'll take away a game that will live long in the memory. If I am ever in the trenches, I hope I am not part of the Saintsweb batallion. "I say chaps, I've got a text from a mate at Ypres, he says they've run out of toilet paper. From that I've concluded they're all dead and we should surrender. Who's with me?"
St_Tel49 Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 I got a text from my friend on 52 minutes. 'Worst first half in ages. Missing pace terribly. Rubbish performance.' I think that your friend was texting rubbish. We were playing well but with no end product. I have seen far worse first halves this season. It was actually quite an exciting match. MK DOns weren't rubbish and passed the ball well. I would say that them going two goals up had more to do with defensive lapses of concentration (especially the first) than with general bad play. doddisalegend Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 No they weren't - they were all straight down the keeper's throat. Well they wouldn't have been if someone had got in the box and tried to put them in the net most of the time their keeper had plenty of time to gather those crosses up becuase no one was there putting pressure on him. Look what happened with Fortes second someone was in the box the kepper fluffs the claim on Hardings cross and goal.

dubai_phil Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 All very well people sucking up to Deppo just because we won. Have you seen some of the other posts he makes? The guy's a tool. Who very rarely appears on a match day thread. Look, there have been mongs on forums since the innernet was invented. S4E used to have some ridiculous numbers of members on line and posting. Over the years those wrist slitters have driven away many many good posters and far more real fans who popped in to see what was going on at the club and to get a sense of the opinions held by others. There has never been any point in argueing with them they go on and and until you are abused off here or you lose the will to live. We have had a zillion threads about it, many of them possibly have miserable lives and many of them may need help, a lot may just be ANTS (we had a thread on that) The thing is us regular match day threaders know this and have developed our own in-jokes and irony. 0-2 down we type NA Out FFS. First touch goal NA is a legend. That thread is our real connection to the game, it is by nature emotive, the point of it is our thoughts and emotions during the match, but the POINT is that it has now reached a level where we look forward to Alps joining us. Call it our "going down to get a pint before the end of the first half" match day experience. The majority of us laugh WITH the mongs now, we simply found it keeps the blood pressure down and also allows the thread to stay focused on the game. Some of course, we simply ignore, like today - Deppo got ignored Deppo taking on the wrist slitters - hahaha he won again

It probably was against the run of play but we never looked like scoring lots of effort no end product (first 5mins we looked good) then it was a lot of aimless punting, poor balls and a packed scrappy midfield. Dons are a much better team this season too got some pace.
Latheal Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 It sounded great on the radio. I got so depressed at 2-0 down that I turned down the sound and went off to do some tidying. Couldn't resist of course and came back later just as Forte scored, and as I was writing on the match thread he equalised... The sound of the crowd was amazing; that deep throated roar when people just let themselves go and there's no embarassment about making a noise. The winner.. well, I wonder what the next flat thought! If 22k can make that noise, what will the next home crowd do, and how big do you reckon it will be?? It was amazing, like iansums said earlier, was just like the JPT semi (maybe its something about the Dons, if I remember correctly they brought no fans to that match as well!). I even took my mother today for her visit to St Marys as an early Mother's Day present - she was cheering so loudly at the end she fell off her seat. Not sure how many we'll get on Tues, I'm hoping we'll steadily grow until the end of the season - obviously Tues is massive as well, gutted can't be there due to work commitments. There's plenty more twists and turns to go yet, but at the ground today the game just felt crucial.

Deano6 Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 Didn't hear it, what did he say? He said "First of all I'd like to thank Turkish on the Saintsweb message board for starting a thread of support for me when Lallana and Oxo got injured. Even though it was meant tongue in cheek at the time and was a dig at Adkins' judgement in signing me rather than some more established 'names' who he felt would have given better cover in the squad, he's changed his tack now and is claiming that he was behind me from the start, so that makes it ok." trousers Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 To be fair Alps, I think the boos for Forte were because a lot of the crowd thought it was Barnard's number which had been held up (he even started running off the pitch) before everybody realised that it was an MK Dons substitution first - it died down almost immediately. These boos......Nothing to do with Cortese being shown on the big then....? ;-)

hughieslastminutegoal Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 Deppo. When EVERY other fan posting on the match thread was whining and crying that we'd be lucky to make the play-offs, he posted something along the lines of "Get a grip, you bottlers" and proceeded to lambast everyone for being so negative and having no faith in the team. Don't you wish that all fans could have that kind of spirit? Yes, his spirit and character is just what we need as he himself pointed out to Hypo… WHEN we get promoted, this will be the game we look back on. Fantastic result and I am so so pleased tonight with the character we showed. Starting to believe... "the character we showed"? I'd be more comfortable if you changed that pronoun for "the players". Oh…. Obviously what we need is more pedantry.
The9 Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 Oh…. Obviously what we need is more pedantry. About fcking time too. I was there, we weren't good but we weren't "2-0 down" bad, which was one of the reasons it was frustrating. Our final ball was cack, and Lambert and Barnard seemed to have penaltyboxitis and never threatened any of the crosses, though they mostly weren't good crosses. I thought Lallana was his usual brilliant self throughout though and he always looked a threat. I spent a large chunk of the match up until Forte came on wondering why, when last season Lewington got murdered for pace in all 4 matches in which we beat them, didn't we throw the only fast bloke on the bench onto the pitch instead of Chaplow, who was playing a bit out of position on the right of a arrow midfield and having a mare. We needed width and we needed pace - the idea that Butterfield could overlap down that side (standard with a narrow midfield) just wasn't happening, and Chaplow had an off-day and a half. It certainly necessitated a bit of a positional change and certainly wasn't a wide 4-4-2 suddenly (or a standard 4-3-3), but somehow, despite Forte not actually running past Lewington much, it still made all the difference. There was some booing at half time (not surprisingly, though on balance a tad unwarranted, we were below average but still could have been ahead with a few breaks), but the booing for the Forte substitution was because it looked like Barnard was coming off which would have been pretty inexplicable (the MK Dons 9 came off instead). hypochondriac Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 (edited) He's not being pedantic, he's highlighting that Hypochondriac showed absolutely no character whatsoever when Saints were 2-0 down. It baffles me that so many people fail to understand Deppo's posts as soon as any level of subtlety is introduced. Which is total nonsense and the only reason he said anything is because I was the one who posted. The only thing I said at 2-0 down was that IF it finished 2-0 then it would be very disappointing. I don't think anyone can disagree with that. I don't think anyone really expected us to score three goals after that and it was a very pleasant surprise. The odds of it happening must have been pretty long though considering it is the first time we have done so in about ten years. There is nothing wrong with hoping that the team gets better in a match whilst being disappointed at the current level of performance. Deppo said he was annoyed at people writing off the whole season which I never did. I also find it particularly pathetic that people are criticising people for their immediate reactions after going 2-0 down rather than enjoying the excellent comeback and the character from us. It makes the likes of deppo look extremely hypocritical and petty. Edited 4 April, 2011 by hypochondriac
