iansums Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Interesting piece here on the final last year: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2011/04/do_you_remember_the_first_time.html#287420 Brings back some great memories from that day. Good luck to Carlisle on Sunday, I hope they win.
Dimond Geezer Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I enjoyed reading that. It's nice to find out what goes on behind the scenes. Good luck Carlisle.
Soggy Bottom Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Great read. KD comes across very well. And a tight arse, wouldn't even pay out for a Carlisle shirt for his boy lol
Pancake Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 And a tight arse, wouldn't even pay out for a Carlisle shirt for his boy lol Yeah, that did raise a chuckle.
latter day saint Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 enjoyed reading that, cheers as its my day off i think i'm going to watch the dvd again
LGTL Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 What a fantastic read. You have to laugh at the image of Jaidi standing at the front of the bus with a huge video camera, I bet he annoys the hell out of everyone!
West End Saint Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Good read great day out very pleased Marcus had his day in the sunshine watching the mighty Saints lift a trophy fair play to KD
dubai_phil Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Well found and thanks, that put a big smile back on my face with all the memories, and well done to Paul Fletcher for taking the time to write it up so well
dronskisaint Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Thank you...I went with my lad and had one of the best days out I've ever had. Seeing Markus taking photos, Waigo's dancing, PWFG larging the moment, just the whole joyous atmosphere will stay with me for always I suspect!
Nexstar Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Fantastic read. Very nice to hear what happened behind the scenes and an interesting bit about Kelvin's half-time routine
Junction 9 Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 A good read from a great weekend. I was up at Wembley arena a couple of weeks ago and walked past The Bear pub in the high st. It was absolutley dead, a bit different to when I was last in there after the game last year.
Micky Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Good read - 73K fans - will be interesting to see the attendance this year. Good luck to Carlisle though.
SNSUN Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 What a great day. I remember some on here thinking it was a record number of fans for one team at Wembley - was that true and did any official media outlets acknowledge our support?
St Marco Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Was a great day out. The only time i have seen us win a trophy! Hope Carlisle win as after last year spoke to so many of their fans after the game and they all seemed pretty decent to me. So hope they win it.
jam Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I feel a bit smug as I always thought the JPT would lead to a good day out. I travelled across on the Jubilee line and can remember how the Carlisle fans were pretty relaxed and in good spirits while the all the Saints I could see seemed over the moon to be going to Wembley. So much for the 'we're too big a club for all this' mentality that Southampton are supposed to have.
The9 Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Excellent article, much like all of Paul Fletcher's coverage of the Cheats' court cases last season.
BotleySaint Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 As a Carlisle AND Saints fan, I am delighted to be going to Wembley two years running. And this time I don't have to be divided ... although Saints come first
Picard Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Excellent article, much like all of Paul Fletcher's coverage of the Cheats' court cases last season. I think you mean Matt Slater!
pilsburydoughboy Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I missed the final due to being in hospital after having been rushed in with appendix trouble. Had to listen on the radio with four Saints fans on the ward.
dubai_phil Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 OK I know I take the p1ss with my golf stories. BUT one advantage of my working is t hat I got to know the Getty Images guys and how they work. Having read the article it prompted me to go fishing for the Getty Pictures of that day out So gang, finally some ROI for my tales and here are some GREAT pics (59 of them) of our big day out done by the professionals http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?query=z.i.H4sIAAAAAAAEAOy9B2AcSZYlJi9tynt_SvVK1-B0oQiAYBMk2JBAEOzBiM3mkuwdaUcjKasqgcplVmVdZhZAzO2dvPfee--999577733ujudTif33_8_XGZkAWz2zkrayZ4hgKrIHz9-fB8_In7dfLn91etf49f4NX6PX_dskV3kvyb9-pj-_9u_rtbtPFus2mqZnldVO8nKMj0p15Nfc4Q2Nz6m0a-Z1PT2y6zOFs2vrZ_9Wvj_7g5-_c1M-98d__zG9P9f793r6-b0nYHxa3p_87vZufn119TfAe7Xzs6nFi_zB_6PPn_NHe5x0bo33e-_DjUu7Rf2L7z369If9cKCDf_89dF8F3_9evz5xMLo_M2vnYdQ7J8MZcdCOe9AcX_za3UIxf7JUPYslLoDxf1NlMnNS78m_jBTwmTaxW-_oWmLyWDaEk3ylfn01-S_DIzfBJ_sMYB80tg25g8me-6w8X7_tXLX3Pv9125WK_s5_jA9_Vb2xcupe9H9_utUtcc09i_-apL7X5m_8Pzas6ul-f3XNH_8Ovh_s_bGE_z1a-eZw8D_g35f-V_YP37dJoAW_vlrv3v23E0J_WG_yGoPN--P36iZVqv8yXo5Kz0iBp8agD8OOA927uP3X4e4aW2bB3_9OvNa_hAK4S8D4WN88hC_Ebs4AfL_-PVe5Fd50_4_AQAA__8c9xQkSwQAAA..&rid=96780206&rcat=Event&rt=GBR%3a+Southampton+v+Carlisle+United+-+Johnstone%27s+Paint+trophy+Final#1 Oh. and I will kick the krap out of Ian Walton when I see him in December, I never realised he did footie as well as golf, could have got a few proper copies off him - doh!
STEVEADAMS Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 Fantastic article, good luck to both teams tomorrow.
Al de Man Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 Good read - 73K fans - will be interesting to see the attendance this year. Good luck to Carlisle though. 40476. Fair enough, Carlisle have just about the furthest distance to travel to get to Wembley and it's only been 12 months since they were last there, but Brentford? How many tube stops is it?
Jimmy_D Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 I guess we're not the current holders any more Well done to Carlisle though.
doubleonothing Posted 3 April, 2011 Posted 3 April, 2011 (edited) Glad Carlisle won it. Their fans seemed like a pretty decent bunch last year. Remember travelling up to Wembley on the Northern and Jubilee lines from south west London with some Carlsile fans I bumped into at the ticket barriers. Had some quite good banter with them on the way there. Great day out. Was looking at my pictures from it the other day. Seeing the Saints crest on Wembley as we walked down Wembley way was great. In fact it was a fantastic day out! Was also great to see Markus (RIP) there taking his own pictures. Edited 3 April, 2011 by doubleonothing
