We've had a few shockers over the years but what players were you happy to see leave and never see again?

I have to say I was delighted to see Jermaine Wright leave (though he was always an honest, hard working player, he was frustratingly rubbish but left with our best wishes).

I was also delighted to see Nigel Quashie leave during 05/06 as he'd nominated himself the free kick/corner/penalty specialist of the side and it was getting rather irritating watching a player he now considered himself Pele after we dropped out of the PL. Once again, hardworking player and put in some great performances but a relief after we'd offloaded him in the mid-season cull after GB's arrival.

One player I was absolutely delighted to see leave was Mikael Nilsson. Bottler and incredibly rubbish. Same goes for Delap... but it appears I got that call wrong, anyway!

I was glad when Le Tissler retired. Over rated, lazy, slow, inconsistant. His goal scoring record would only have been average if he didn't take penalties and didn't score enough goals from inside the area for my liking.

David Speedie and Kerry Dixon oh and Terry Hurlock. Remind me again who signed them.......... Ah thats right Branfoot.......oh happy days.

"Dixon and Speedie will score more goals than Alan Shearer this season" remains of one my favourite quotes of all time.

Mark Hughes and Stuart Ripley.

I have an old copy of football manager 2000, and every now and then I start up a new game just so I can sell the pair of them. Useless mercanaries.

Agree on Dixon and Speedie but also Perry Groves. Shearer was always going but we wasted the money big time. Also didn'tlike the way Doddsy ended his playing career with us,could have been done better.

I was very pleased for Paul Wotton when he left, but more importantly for myself.....

He may have lacked quite a bit in talent but you can't fault him for the effort he put in

Absolutely. He may not have been the most gifted player but you cannot fault his effort, commitment or passion, ironically something the team have been accused of lacking serveral times this season. I for one will always have a lot of time for the bloke and appreciated his commitment.

In one way I was very relieved that Burley left and I will be forever thankful to the Scottish football association for taking that blithering idiot off our hands, however it was only a matter of time before Jason Dodd was going to be appointed

Quite,

I gave him quite a bit of stick at first but I remember watching him at St' Mary's under the darkest days of the Poortvliet regime, when the kids kept giving the ball away every other pass and Wotton working his arse off for 95 mins trying to win it back, putting more effort/work rate in than the rest of the outfield players combined.

He may have lacked talent but fair play to him

Nilsson had played at international level before he signed for us, and has played at international level since. He really wasn't that bad, although it's worth noting he played on the wing for us - but has played at every other club and for his country at right back.

Dyer and BWP - after the skate bar robbery.

McGoldrick - didnt like the look of his face, or the way he walked, or the way he drank his coffee.

Burley - always sounded hammered.

Posted

Euell definitely. He was always a donkey who somehow managed to save his reputation by putting in 5 decent performances in each of the 2 seasons he spent here.

BWP too. I know he has scored a few this season, but I was glad to see the back of him and would much rather have Barnard.

DMG really wasn't that good and £1m is well over the odds for him.

Pretty much every Branfoot signing bar Monkou and Paul Allen (not the Seattle one). Particularly David Lee, a whiny little winger we bought from Bolton and in keeping with every other Branfoot signing probably gave away for free or near enough. Dixon and Speedie - outscore Shearer? Ha ha!

In recent times I was glad to get Euell off of the books and as has already been said Jermaine Wright as well.

Branfoot leaving followed by Burley in terms of managers, can't believe the SFA paid compo as well! Not too sorry to see Harry go either.

Who was I sad to see leave? It would just be too long a list!

Viafara.

But I might be on my own in thinking he was the most useless player (aside from Bernard... obviously) but he ran around a lot and went flying into tackles and scored two (very good I might add) goals against Derby... but everyone thought he was amazing..... he was amazing at giving the ball away and conceding cheap free kicks... but that was about it.

But I was delighted we only signed Bernard on loan.... phew!

He played probably half of his games for us (15 or so appearances in total?) at right back .He was ****e. Never seen a professional player look so afraid of making tackles!

That is where his problem was Jack, if he won it back he didn't know what to do with it afterwards.I was always told you had to work hard first to allow your talent and ability come through, a couple of problems there for him.

Fair play to him, he made a living out of football, i didn't.

Not for the first time we bought a player for one position only to play them in a different one and then condemn them as useless. I never found it a problem to sort out the first issues with a player: Right or left footed? Central or wide? Why have previous managements had such problems with the basics? Even BA (Before Adkins) this season poor Guly was put out to play left wing, not surprisingly with very limited success.

Thanks for repeating what I was about to say. The biggest bottler I've ever seen :-o

Leon Best, you get put on the post because you can't defend at corners, if you can't stop an easy shot going past you on the post, sit off the ****ing pitch

Sammy Lee - the worst player ever to wear a Saints shirt. Still makes me cringe today to see that fat little ginger f####er in the famous stripes.

Nothing felt as good as seeing Burley leave though.

You weren't around for the Branfart era then .... the change in the whole place with the Bally/Lawrie dream team coming in and Matty given licence to thrill was amazing.

Jermaine Wright, Neil McCann (although I remember him being astonishingly better when playing for Scotland), BWP, Saganowski, Leon Best (I still blame him entirely for losing that play off, ive never seen one player derail a team effort so effectively before).

Players I was sad to see leaving; Marian Pahars, Hassan Kachloul (although I found great hilarity in his career going down the pan immediately afterwards), Niemi (still amazed he wasnt snapped up by one of the top four), Bale, Killer.

I seem to be the only person on this forum that rated Ormerod, also I

(Computer spasm caused an early posting). Continued............. Also I couldnt hate Burley after the 06/07 season purely because it was so ridicoulously entertaining, even if ultimately ended in failure. Besides any dodgy performances in the first half of the 07/08 season were soon put into perspective when Dodd and Gormans utter shower of sheeeeet took over.

I know it's an unpopular POV, but I always quite liked Jermaine Wright. Every squad (especially a squad where money is tight) needs a utility player and he was it for us.

He always put in a shift and whilst he wasn't the greatest player around, certainly wasn't as bad as so many on here think. Another case in point is Paul Telfer. A player in the same mould, fulfilling the same role, and equally despised.

I also think that the SaintsWeb fanbase would list any of our holding CM's - starting with Oakley and continuing to this day. This isn't because they've been bad, just that the role is rarely eye catching QED they're ****.

Steve Baker. Not because I didn't rate him or like, just because I felt so sorry for him due to the stick he got after that Skate game.

Egil Ostenstat ... on a good day he was pretty good but seem to remember him missing so many sitters ... Used to call him Egil 'oops I almost scored' Ostenstat !!!

The whole Kenwynne Jones saga was a bad experience.

Going on strike - what a *****.

We should have left him to rot in the reserves for the rest of his contract - but 5 million or whatver seemed like taking sweets off a baby at the time.

Bloody typical lack of sell on clause, but i guess Sern Johns goals gave us one more season the chumpionship.
