brmbrm Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Brilliant stuff. What i like most is the way the defenders typically stand there, rams on hips, having been stuffed by a genius. No blaming each other, no recriminations, just stuffed by a genius. Perhaps my favourtie moment is about 1;20 in - 4 or 5 in a row, hands on hips, just saying "WTF????" Total genius.
dune Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 He's the best player that will ever play for us and i feel privilidged to have seen him so many times.

Plus the fact that often the keepers didn't even move! He had deceptively fast feet and I'm pleased to say I saw most of those home goals..
dune Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Used to love the warm ups. All the other players running round and doing what they were told and Le Tissier doing what the f/ck he wanted. You could never keep your eye off the pitch or you'd get the ball in your face as he lobbed one over the bar into the crowd.
smithy Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 (edited) They picked Paul Gascoigne Actually they picked Les Ferdinand after Matty got a hat trick in the B international against Russia. Gascoigne was also dropped. Edited 31 March, 2011 by smithy
Saint Charlie Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 That left foot volley against Forest at the Dell....wow. Think that was after Crossley had saved his pen!
Pedro Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Poetry in motion. Also loved the shot of Bally RIP. Brings tears to your eyes and reminds us of just how great MLT was.
BadgerBadger Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 For someone who didn't have the benefit of seeing him at the Dell that was special. Loved the Blackburn fans clapping the goal against Tim Flowers

Can always remember him going in goal during the warm ups at the dell back in the late 80's early 90's stretching his long sleeved training top over his wrist to tip the ball around the post. no wounder he never did him self an injury messing about in there.
warsash saint Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Showed by 8 year old nipper earlier...told him I saw all bar about 4 of the goals live.....he just said 'Dad you were lucky' He wasn't wrong !
ericb Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 some great shots of the changing face of the dell, the old Archers Pens Yup was like a trip down my footballing life, starting out in the pens, moving to the milton under the roof, then to the archers and now the northam. God i miss the Dell, and le tiss, i was lucky enough to have been there from his debut through to his testimonial and i'd be surprised if i get to see a better player in the red and white. One sad note from that lot though is they missed the last ever goal at the Dell (don't even bother correcting that one pedants) the emotion and perfection of that moment still lives behind my eyelids now. Le Tiss, thank you. Thank you for keeping us up. Thank you for letting us been known around the world. Thank you for staying loyal. Thank you for taking the time out to talk to the thousands of fans that pester you away from football. And thank you for the great goals and memories.
Deppo Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I would like to see the following legends highlights/music combinations: Francis Benali/Stockhausen Kevin Keegan/The Carpenters Ron Davies/Status Quo

I turned to my sister at half time, sitting in the bloody East Stand of all places, and said "2-2 with 5 minutes to go, MLT belter?". I admit I cried when it went in - a special special moment. And CMFG tried to ruin it by nearly scoring another ;-)
NickG Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 the two against Norwich at about 1.40, think were midweek game - but I thought it was hatrick?? Was I exagerating in my memory?
The9 Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 (edited) You're missing the point. Replace Heskey by Anderton (or any other England donkey who played instead of Matty pre 1998 ). No I'm not, he explicitly said "Heskey". If he'd wanted to make a point about generic donkeys he should have done so. Venables seemed to do pretty well with the side he had in '96 (Sheringham, FFS)...? Edited 1 April, 2011 by The9

Venables seemed to do pretty well with the side he had in '96 (Sheringham, FFS)...? Yes, but considering he made space for Rob Lee and Steve Stone as opposed to Matt Le Tissier is a bit... f()cking dumb (though if IIRC, he had a bit of a wobbly season under Merrington scoring only 10 goals). Same applies to Hoddle two years later, though Le Tissier, despite his immense showing in the 'B' game was still paying for England's loss against Italy with which he had little to be blamed for. That and leaking the squad, of course. Such a shame. He should never, ever have got only 8 caps.
Giordano Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 No I'm not, he explicitly said "Heskey". If he'd wanted to make a point about generic donkeys he should have done so. Venables seemed to do pretty well with the side he had in '96 (Sheringham, FFS)...? The9, I'm afraid you misquote me....i said "a" Heskey, with "a" Heskey being my the generic term for another player clearly less gifted....or put another more pejorative way, a donkey. I do admit i thought Heskey had overlapped with MLT and stand corrected by you on that but the gist of my comment was that inferior players were picked ahead of MLT, which i doubt many on this forum would denounce as incorrect....or are you seriously going to say his omission benefited english international football?????tbf it probably kept sfc up a few more times than we should because tiss was always fresh but it did not aid our international results surely...
ericofarabia Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I would like to see the following legends highlights/music combinations: Francis Benali/Stockhausen Kevin Keegan/The Carpenters Ron Davies/Status Quo This would be the shortest video clip ever unless they put his 1 and only goal on continuous loop for 10 mins. A better idea would be a video of his sending offs - that would last a while.
Sour Mash Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Think I'm going to have to dig out my 'Goals of the Season' videos from the late 80s/early-mid 90s, relive some classic memories. Great stuff.
LGTL Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 This thread has made me tempted to get out my "Matt's Premier 50" and "Unbelievable" videos out. Shame I know longer have a VHS player!
harwellsaint Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 Guardian sports just posted an article linking to a youtube vid of Le Tiss set to Mozart - pretty good memories thank you for that, my lord wisked me back to the east terrace, pure pure heaven, best player ever born simple as that
LGTL Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 MLT and Gazza are easily two of the most gifted players this country has ever produced, and we pretty much wasted both of them. Their talents were totally ignored in favour of pathetic "ball winners" like Batty. We didn't deserve either of them.
dune Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 I hate hoddle with a passion for what he did to Matt. He tried to sign him when he was at Chelsea and because Matt stayed loyal to us Hoddle took his revenenge when he was England manager.

What a complete plonker Hoddle was!
