I'll wait for the Rachel Stevens rumours before getting excited.

Knowing our luck (Mr Souness!) we'll sign Cat Stevens

There is probably nothing in it, but you never know...

Let's hope there is, he sounds good. Being linked to someone born in January 1994.. now that makes me feel old.

You can see how we'd probably be a more sensible proposition than Fulham. He'd stand more chance of getting 1st team action and at a level that would give him a decent chance to shine. Also fits in with the development squad side of things.

No idea what he's like though. All I've found is defender who can also play in midfield.

If true, this might be a precursor to the restocking of the academy with some genuine talent, as per the aspirations Cortese has often espoused.

Looks like JH-S will be departing and others will follow at this time of year as the decks are cleared for new intake of scholars, except this time we may also see an influx of hand picked talent from other clubs to get the ball rolling on NC's brave new era ....

One of my favourite classics. Words are very interesting as well.

Great, great fan of Cream back in the day. Used to know every note of the 20-odd minute versions of things like "Crossroads" and being a bit of a drummer, "Toad". "Wheels of Fire"! Aaah, those were the days!

Anyhoo...... Jack Stephens, eh??

I just think it stinks of the money at Saints drying up, how come we can only afford £125K for a 17 year old.................We are doomed!

Certainly! It would probabaly be in the top 10 most expensive L1 players this season...for an apprentice - a good show of intent.

I saw him at central station yesterday morning getting into one of the Saints trainers car. Story now backed up by the echo.

if he's not on the bus we don't want him.

FFS, for another 2m we could get CMS, why are we risking promotion on a crap 17 year old?

I presume that was a joke --difficult to be sure with no smileys and some of the crap posted on here at times -- but Peterboro' claim they actually turned down £3 million, not a mere £2 million, from a premier league club, so presumably we wold have had to pay quite a bit more than £3 million, not £2,125,000.

Can anyone confirm what is says in the article on 'thisisdevon' linked above ...could he play for us this season even though the transfer window is shut?

Well yes I think the rules have been clearly established and that he could play for us this season, but then again he doesn't actually play for Plymouth now does he? If he can't get a game at Plymouth at this time why would he play in front of any of our no doubt superior players?

is it me or have we become real opportunist buyers - Fonte, Barnard, Dickson, Richardson, Chaplow, Stephens and now possibly Stephens all snapped up? Not a bad thing at all getting a bargain as no doubt wages are quite high.

Nothing wrong with being shrewd. It can leave some feeling a bit ripped off, but hey..... it's happened to us in the past and will no doubt happen again at some point.

the other Stephens is just on loan for the time being.Probably still on very low wages despite the report that he was on double the sum he was on at Oldham. As for the new Stephens he hasn't signed yet and is just an apprentice at Argyle, probably on some ridiculously low amount. Dickson and Richardson? well if they ever get back into the first XI then I guess that'll be money well spent, for the time being it's just 600K+add ons+salaries sitting on our bench.

Don't forget Brighton signed Ankergren,Calderon and Greer last summer, probably for less than we paid for Richardson.

I think his point was more that all these clubs (at the time Saints brought the players) were desperate for money and had serious issues.

Stephens - Yes on loan, but the Oldham press have said Saints paid Oldham a significant loan fee. Oldham haven't been paying their wages on time.

Plymouth, Southend, Charlton, Crystal Palace and Preston all had big problems at the time of the deals and Saints took advantage of them. Not so sure about Brentford/Dickson, I'm unaware of any serious financial problems there. More a case (I think) of Dickson wanting a better deal for himself.

It may sound harsh but is an effective transfer policy. Clubs took advantage of Saints in 2009 with Surman and McGoldrick etc going cheap.

It does suggest that if the right deal comes up there are ready funds available to make them happen. I'm sure cash on the nail for Plymouth would be very welcome given their current situation.

It would be totally ironic if we help them survive the season, and they beat us on May 2nd.[Having said that it is unlikely the football league will throw them out before the end of the season anyway.
