dannysfc Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 I would like to extend my warmest welcome to new signing in Dale Stephens and would like to wish him all the best and Good Luck for him down here and my Mate whose an Oldham fan told me that he is a Good player and fingers crossed he will live up to that! The main thing I wanted to ask and discuss are these points: 1). Where Will Dale Stephens Play? 2). Will Adkins Drop Either Hammond Or Chaplow For Stephens? Thoughts!?! Thanks! COYR !!
Right sider Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 Ben Stop Using So Many Capital Letters It Is Doing My Head In and Use Some Punctuation Too!
Tony F Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 Reckon he'll start him with Hammond and invite Chappers to be the IMPACT PLAYER coming off the bench (for right or wrong)
Chez Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 based on Chaplows recent form I'd have no problem with Stephens coming straight in. Perhaps the increased competition will allow him the break he possibly needs or kicks his arse into gear.
Whitey Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 I'm reckon a 2nd half substitute appearance in place of Chaplow on Saturday and see what he can do in 20 minutes.
scotty Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 Ben Stop Using So Many Capital Letters It Is Doing My Head In and Use Some Punctuation Too! Pedant It depends whether NA sees Dale Stephens as a temporary signing or a permanent one imo. If the idea is to get him on loan then sign him up permanently next season I imagine he'll be odds on for the starting lineup, if he's been brought in as cover then more likely on the bench. Be interesting to see him on saturday if he plays.
Nexstar Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 With regards to the title - No, Adkins won't drop anyone. We will play with 12 men
paulwantsapint Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Could mean a new formation Davis Butterfield Fonte Jaidi Harding Hammond Stephens Chaplow Lambert Forte Barnard Allowing Lallana & oxo to recover
Matthew Le God Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 (edited) Could mean a new formation Davis Butterfield Fonte Jaidi Harding Hammond Stephens Chaplow Lambert Forte Barnard Allowing Lallana & oxo to recover That isn't a new formation, Saints have been using it for a few months now and switch tactics between that and 442 throughout games. Guly is probably ahead of Forte for a starting role and would play behind Lambert and Barnard in such a system. Edited 29 March, 2011 by Matthew Le God
fish fingers Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 I'm looking forward to booing him on Saturday I'm looking forward to inserting his name into one of our standard song templates.
Turkish Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 One thing is for sure, if he isn't brilliant on saturday some will be on his back straight away.
scotty Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 One thing is for sure, if he isn't brilliant on saturday some will be on his back straight away. or even if he is, tbh
NickG Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 anyone rate Howard? Surprised if we didn't have a look at him??
Saint Lindford Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Think he will be on the bench for Saturday and will be used as 2nd half sub probably for Chappers. The threat of a 2 game suspension still hangs over both Chappers and Hammond so a back up role for the moment beckons, if either get a lay off then he will be straight in.
The9 Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 One thing is for sure, if he isn't brilliant on saturday some will be on his back straight away. But he's not black...?
Barry the Badger Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 But he's not black...? and he's got a tatoo so is more likely to be seen as one of the lads.

Will they attempt the manage the next booking to miss certain games?
The9 Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 According to the Oldham fan who posted on here Stephens is a Steven Gerrard type, so he'd be more likely to replace Chaplow not Hammond. I wouldn't be surprised to see him rotated in to keep the yellow cards to a minimum before the second weekend of April when the suspension deadline for 10 yellows passes, and by then we'll have seen enough of him to know whether he's a starter or stays as cover. Chaplow will definitely react well, he looks like he likes a challenge...
The9 Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Will they attempt the manage the next booking to miss certain games? Sounds like a silly idea as they'd need to be adding at least one booking each (I think Chaplow's on 7 and Hammond to get to 9 to even be in a position to get suspended "when they want", and the suspension is more than just one match so any "deliberate" yellow getting is a stupid idea. The latest they can get suspended for yellows is Leyton Orient on 9th, the deadline is 10th. We have MK Dons and Charlton before that, so 3 games left for them not to pick up (at least) 2 yellows. That deadline means they CAN'T miss the Brighton game due to yellow card suspension, as we play Rochdale and Bristol Rovers first and those matches are the latest the suspension can apply. They could of course get sent off...
southbourne saint Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Chaplow has been nursing tight hamstrings and could well be left on the bench.
RedWillie Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Barnard could well be nursing tight handcuffs and be sent down by the bench....
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 Chaplow has been nursing tight hamstrings and could well be left on the bench. Would explain his slightly below par performances recently, if so.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 If we're going to play him in a diamond perhaps it could be: ---------Hammond---------- ------Guly------Stephens--- ----------Lallana------------ With Barnard and Lambert up front? I believe Stephens is left footed is he not?
Matthew Le God Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 I believe Stephens is left footed is he not? He is right footed.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 He is right footed. Darn. Well I'd still play that midfield.
Saint-Fred Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 barnard could well be nursing tight handcuffs and be sent down by the bench.... lmao!
Tony F Posted 29 March, 2011 Posted 29 March, 2011 (edited) Barnard could well be nursing tight handcuffs and be sent down by the bench.... I SERIOUSLY LOL-ed at this - great post m8! Edited 29 March, 2011 by Tony F spolling
sidthesquid Posted 30 March, 2011 Posted 30 March, 2011 On a more serious note, both Lallana & Oxo must be doubts so he is quite likely to replace one or other of them
