My daughter is 18yr in June and me and Mrs D are stuck for ideas. Due to illness etc we are on a strict budget so can't do the things we'd like to so are looking for ideas from you guys. She's a definite tom boy, not at all 'girly', not into jewellery or 'normal girly' things.

Are you after present ideas or ideas for things to do?

I'm afraid I'm not much help with either but thought it might help to clarify!

Well - there's a difference between 18 and 40 I suppose. I'm currently organising something for my oldest daughter's 40th this weekend.

Being a hard up pensioner now, I can't afford much either. Her partner is organising a get-together of her friends and family members and I'm giving her one of those Airkix experiences at Milton Keynes. She's always wanted to do a parachute jump - can't afford that - so it's the next best thing.

Maybe something like that?

I agree, those experience days are brilliant fun and not that expensive.

This is a good site http://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/

or Groupon deals from time to time have good deals as well.

For the Airkix one, I went directly to the company. It was marginally cheaper than going to an experience website.

In the past, I've been given a hot air balloon flight, a gliding 'experience', and a falconry day - I don't think any of those were too pricey either.

Maybe she would like a night out in a pub - first day of legal drinking and all?

My sister made a 'cheque book' for my nieces birthday. All the cheques were experiences to cash in over the next 12 months. They were things like go to pictures with dad, family meal, girlie day with mum, ironing done by dad for a week, trip to St, Mary's (I just made that up)....think you get the get the picture. It spread the cost of expensive items but some included no money at all and could be tailored to what she likes etc. Also, some of her friends and extended family might like to add something to it. Hope this helps.

What the hell is wrong with this place?

15 posts about an 18 y/o girl and not a single "Rule 1?". FFS.

I've been at the shops.
