that a lot of the Lounge superstars, BTF, Verbal etc rarely, if every post anything on football. As this is first and foremost a football forum are you actually Saints, or indeed football fans? Do you go to matches? Or do you just use it as a social club and in some cases, a means to try to convicence yourself and others, of your intellgence and superiority complex.

My grandfather and great-grandfather were both stokers at a gas works whose location vis a vis the stadium you can probably guess. My father delivered match balls to The Dell in his first job. So I can trace my and my family support of the club practically back to its origins. Can you? Under a different name, I did post exclusively on the main board, but now choose to give it miss and just go to games. The reason I post on here is because I'm a lifelong Saints supporter. Not THAT surprising is it?

Thanks for asking though.

This isn't purely a football forum, threads on here span a wide range of topics. My gran could sign up on here and rack up 2000 posts in a year, and she barely knows what football is.

You don't have to post on the main board of a forum to be a Saints fan.

Well, that's two that have bitten, one more and Turkish keeps the match ball

LOL I was about to bite too :D

Oh darn it - I will! I started going to the Dell with my dad when I was about 7 or 8. My dad's building firm used to have an advertising hoarding (East Stand IIRC).

I DO post on the football forum from time to time but, sadly, I don't get to matches because I don't want to go on my own; Mr TF, as a few of you are aware, being a Skate  We do go to football matches together, however - Wycombe Wanderers.

So you get to keep the match ball - happy now?

Are there any of the fascists that don't post on football matters?

Is it not time that the forum was just merged into one?

You'd have to be a bit of an idiot to not realise when a thread is TIC or not footie related and the crossover may benefit both sides ie lighten up the MISOG's and educate the silly people in the art of serious ****.

since I got my iPhone (did I mention that I have an iPhone?) I only use the 'What's New' button and it is 1 million percent better experience.

I'm guessing he wasn't a right back.

Very clever with the one liners today Baj.

You've waited almost two years to use that one and I sincerely applaud it, when will fame leave menone I wonder.

FYI I was right midfield and had to drop back to cover that shower behind me. DP will back me up on this as it was he who pointed out that they were so bad that even YOU were getting in the box.

Yes i can thanks all the same, until three weeks before he died, my Grandad used to stand under the West Stand at the Dell as he did from before the First world War as a child, taken by his dad, my Great Grandather, in fact on one of the old books (Full Time at the Dell) you can see my Grandfather in a shot of the crowd. Likewise my mum went until about a month before she died until she was no long physically capable, my dad is still a season ticket holder as are my brother and sister. My dad took us all to our first games, mine in 1985 as an 8 year old.

I just find it surprising, that in the 6-9 months or so that you have been on my radar as a poster on here, i canot recall a single post on football related matters. Surely someone as intellegent as you with a mastermindlike knowledge on absolutely every subject would be able to offer some sort of attempt at educating some of the savages on the main board with your indepth, articulate, well reasoned, researched and undoubtebly correct views on all things Saints and football, any reason why you dont?

Kind of a giveway that it's call the Saints Web though Mikey. Without wishing to jump to assumptions people going on a football forum and specifically one relating to a particular club would have some interest in the goings on within, rather than just showing off to everyone how much they know about banking and Politics, for example.

Well both of the posters that you referred to in the OP post regularly on the main board, but they're also omnipresent on The Lounge as well. Obviously the original motivation for signing up was discussion of Saints, but it's easy to get side-tracked. I'd say my time is split 50-50 between Main Board and Lounge.

I too can trace my roots back to previous generations. My Dad was a part-time Fulham fan when he was a boy (grew up in Woking but Fulham were doing well). Then he moved to Southampton for Uni and over time started going to a few games. Then as I came of the age he started taking me along. We even had season tickets for a few seasons, but now I've moved away and Saints got **** I've basically lost interest.

So don't talk to me about support.

I also have a dad, and so did he. My dad had a mum too and so do I. I don't think any of them liked saints. It's a funny old game.

Verbal asked me if i could trace my Saints supporting history, which i could and showed in my reply to him. Nothing to do with going on about having a dad, thanks for your input though.

Really? Just had a quick flick through one of theirs posting history, went back a month (couldn't be arsed to go back any further) Saw plenty of posts on politics, war, religiion etc, but not a single one on football. I know you are probably modelling yourself on them, which is understandable because you share many of the characteristics, albeit in a more naive and immature way, but for a life long Saints fan to not express a single opinion on football matter on a football forum when we are in the midst of a promotion challenge, is surprising, especially when they are so knowledgeable and opinionated on non football related matters.

Yeah I appreciate it's about grandparents too, like I said my dad also had a dad (he didn't support saints either). Sorry for any confusion Turkish ;)

Well, fair enough. You've proved your point (whatever that was). They're not obliged to express their opinions on Saints, they almost certainly read the main board every day. We've got hundreds of users a day that don't post on the main board but are active. There are posters like you and me with 4000-odd posts who post on the main board every day, then there are some with about 10 or 12 who just read the board every day, then there are those who have lots of posts but spend most of their time on other parts of the forum.

My teeth are sore from biting now.

Dont you think it's a bit odd though? To come on a football forum daily, admittedly one which has a sideline in other subjects but yet never once discuss football yet discuss every other subject possible? Particularly ones which enable you to show people how clever you are.

I should imagine many people come on the forum initially because of their love of saints, but after a spending a while reading the main forum they avoid posting on it much as you seem to have to be a total Saints geek/statto to survive on it without getting ripped to shreds or sucked into pointless arguing. I like to have a read of the main forum but I don't post on it much as I can't be bothered with all the opinionated bull on there.

It's easier to get involved on some of the other forums and just chill and have a laugh. The main forum gets far to serious.

I prefer the lounge to any of the other forums. It is incredibly useful both as a source of interesting information and if you need some sort of help or advice. I argue on the main forum and my 'persona' is one of arguing and taking things too seriously. he reactions are amusing but for help with 'real life', the lounge is by far the best place.

Also - speaking only for myself - I am a bit intimidated on the Main Bored.

Although I love watching football and understand the rules and tactics, I've never ever played it so feel incompetent to comment on performance.

I joined when all the Lowe / Wilde stuff was kicking off and, initially, didn't contribute to any thread (would you believe :)) but then put in my two penneth in the LLS / HelpMeRhonda days.

Now, I just periodically offer to be physio for the TSW match but no-one takes me seriously :(

But that is the point, given how intellegent and knowledgable on everything else, if that overlays into football and there is no reason to assume it wouldn't, then they would blow the main board away with their knowledge and views. When Nick G comes out with one of his stats, or Alps comes out with his negativity, they could instantly prove them wrong with their wisdom and researched and well rounded views on everything Saints related, views which are unarguable and are never wrong.

My grandad would have won though.

My grandad would have swung for yours, Yours would have stepped back, stopped the fight and told him his swinging actiion was all wrong and educated him in the finer arts of Queensbury skills.

I gave up posting on the main board. Too many precious, fickle types who get upset when the TV coverage doesn't include the pass in the build up to the goal, so they actually write in to complain or who get upset because Andy Townsend doesn't mention the fact he used to play for saints every time he's on the TV, booo hoooo. I dislike that too many of our fans are so bloody petty. Some threads on there are informative, but the better craic is found in teh Lounge.

Then your grandad would have learned something, been grateful for the knowledge, and passed the rest of his life happily. A lesson for you in there.

No. You don't deserve it.

Anyway, your attention deficit disorder evidently kicked in before you got to my second para about posting in a previous incarnation exclusively on the main board. I used never to grace the lounge with my presence.

No i saw it, but you obviosuly just didn't stand out amoungst the plethora of other arrogant and patronisiing posters over there, more competition i guess. Lesson for you, must try harder on football related matters. Go on, give it a go, your public awaits.
