Nexstar Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Interesting conundrum for Saints. Do we spend money on Jack Stephens' date=' which could help Argyle through to the season's end, or do we not sign him now (& try to sign him as a free agent if they went bust) which would also enhance our auto promotion prospects???[/quote'] Help them out obviously, we've been there.
Dark Munster Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Help them out obviously, we've been there. Depends. If helping them out only delays them going bust until after the season ends, then we could be cutting our own throats (if the resulting points change from them going bust before the season ends is the difference between us getting promoted or not). I think that's the point IKT was trying to make.
Mattio Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Noone has a time machine so you can't just speculate, it's surely best to help out a fellow team, hopefully we'll never play them in the league again anyway!

Yeah we helped out Bournemouth all those times. Look how they really appreciated that. Look the Plymouth thing is really sad, it is not the fault of their players or fans and the rules are very wrong it should be the Board who get MUCH more severe punishments, but the fact is they beat us with a team they couldn't afford at the start of the season. I truly hope they survive and the efforts by Reidy & Dave Jones & the fans get them through, but those 3 points - how much pressure would that take off our season now if they had played a squad that they could afford against us (like we TRIED to do for a season). Maybe we would have won, maybe the Sky curse still had us in it's grip. But they took 3 points off us in the same way the cheats beat us in the Cup with players they couldn't afford
SaintBobby Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 The normal rules of capitalism don't seem to apply to football clubs. Lots of "on the brink" situations, but very, very few liquidations.
Doctoroncall Posted 1 April, 2011 Posted 1 April, 2011 This backs up SaintBobby's post: Ridsdale added: "The club can get to the end of the season through the goodwill of the players and staff. But it can't be right and proper that the staff and players go without pay." More here So it looks like Plymouth will survive, at least while there is a game to be played.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 Argyle are going to offer creditors 1p in the pound in the CVA. 20x worse than Pompey!
positivepete Posted 2 April, 2011 Author Posted 2 April, 2011 If they pay 1p in the pound it will be infinitely better than Pompey will (not) pay
Dalek2003 Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 The premier League clubs should pay a levy to help the clubs in league 1 and 2.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 The premier League clubs should pay a levy to help the clubs in league 1 and 2. They do already. Solidarity payments given to all 72 Football League clubs each year... http://www.premierleague.com/staticFiles/4a/65/0,,12306~91466,00.pdf

Matthew Le God Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 well they should pay more then. Why should they? Plymouth shouldn't do things like buy a new pitch for £500k in the summer of 2010 when they knew they couldn't afford to pay for it.
Dark Munster Posted 2 April, 2011 Posted 2 April, 2011 If they pay 1p in the pound it will be infinitely better than Pompey will (not) pay Not to mention the Cheats owed 100 times more (despite having the luxury of years of Sky money as well as the over generous parachute money). Cheating, lying bastards. Off to the Lounge in a minute.
