I was looking forward to his contest with Glen Johnson...

I'm leaving for Cardiff tomorrow afternoon, should be a decent weekend.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it, without Bale I can't see Wales having enough but you never know.

Many other Saints travelling ?

I'm going. It's confusing as hell for me, born in Monmouthshire when it was in England*, in a town that is no longer part of Monmouthshire or England, and no longer a town for that matter. And I now live in Southampton anyway.

Just to add to the confusion, I went to the last two Wales/England matches and was in the home end for both, and on Saturday I'll be in the home end sat next to my dad, who was born in the same place as me and regards himself as Welsh, and my wife, who was born in Winchester and who has just bought a Wales shirt to wear over her England one.

As for the result, absolute cakewalk for England, just like the last two. At least a 2-0.

It's not the 1970s when no-one had any technique and you could win with effort alone, and Wales' Championship-level players just can't pass the ball well enough to give even a mediocre England side any concerns.

*don't get me started - 1933 Local Govt Act apparently, superseded by the 1974 Local Govt Act which amongst other things created Gwent when Mon. used to be and placed it firmly in Wales.

2 ST holders on the 10:33 (or thereabouts) Southampton Central to Newport tomorrow morning (£7 each 8) ) then back Sat night from Cardiff to (ahem) Botley (£6 each) - though it stops at Salisbury until the morning, so getting a lift from some fellow Forum members who would have been coming back from Plymouth originally.

Cheaper than driving, especially when the train costs about the same as the bridge !

The Wales assistant manager has been putting comments on Twitter that have upset Spurs.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/12849308.stm

When will people learn not use Twitter for things like this?

Seems from this that Spurs are paranoid. Though I'd already read the bit about Bale not training so I had a pretty good idea he was referring to the media already when I saw the other comments.

Also, as Wales Assistant Manager he's got nothing to worry about, it'll take the FAW another 10-15 years to remember they've got internet access. Their website up until about 2006 was comically amateurish.

Utterly unmoved by this game, i really couldn't give a f*ck TBH.

Capello, for me, started as englands saviour, i really thought we were going to be another powerhouse again. But TBH he has turned into another massive dissapointment. The whole world cup, this Terry malarky and not doing as Germany and the rest do and dump the players that won't be playing in the next world cup. Whats the point ?

I am starting to wonder just how intrusive the FA are in the dressing room.

Anyways, glad Bale is probably not playing, if he can tear world class RB's a new a hole i dread to think what he would do to Glen Johnson.

The FA have been managing the England team since Sven took over, if not before. All the England manager 'manages' now is the PR and the training sessions. The FA are more interested in selling replica shirts being sold than anything else, hence why the same names will walk into the side every game no matter how badly they perform, and why most of them have zero pride and passion in representing their country. The England team is more of a commercial brand than anything else and it's more about promoting egos and enriching the FA coffers than an international football team, and until anything changes the England team are going win bugger all. I still don't think Sven had any say in the decision to take Theo to the World Cup.

Like you I thought things might change under Capello but after all the "rule of iron" PR, it's turned out he's no different to the likes of McClanger and Sven. Unless it changes they'll continue to do the minimum and scrape into most of the major tournaments, and then get found out by a decent team as soon as they get to the last 16/QF of the finals.

As I said on FB...

Amazing how our midfield is so much more cohesive, dovetailing perfectly and working better without Gerrard... not! Great to see Wilshere/Parker/Lampard as a 3 because they move the ball quicker, not faff around with it... Great workrate so far too.

I do hate how people criticise England by saying it means nothing because we are playing a cr*p team. It's a tricky away game and it looks like we are going to win comfortably with a good performance. Well done us.

... exactly the argument I'm having now.

I quite agree.

I'm not sure what some England fans expect. A 2-0 win away from home will do me nicely and sod the performance. Do that every time and we will win things. Having said that, the world cup was extremely disappointing both in terms of performance and results. We need to stop using efficient and unspectacular performances as an indicator for how we will perform against the better teams. It is a totally different mentality and those type of games will be extremely different.

In qualifying, all you should care about is the result. England's main problem in the last twenty years has been that we are incapable of performing to our potential in a knockout tournament when it counts. It's a purely mental thing and people can bang on about our tactics all they like, but even taking that into account, we should have done better than we have in major tournaments.

Now I would hope that Capello keeps faith with the team who performed today and recognises (as France has) that young hungry players need to be given an extended run in the team, regardless of performances, and the value that players who come in to do a specific job like Scott Parker can bring.

When we try to accommodate all of the so called stars is when we fail. I would sooner have hungry and in form championship players than using that tactic, and I bet they would do better than that tactic as well!

Recipe for future England success:

Gerrard out

Barry out

Ferdinand out (we need consistency at the back ad the chance to build a partnership, too injury prone to offer that)

Lampard used more sparingliy and only if he fits into the system.

Rooney used where he is asked to by the team and the team not sacrificed to fit him in (possibly the most encouraging thing about today.)

Wilshire Make him captain sooner rather than later. Failing that, build the team around him, but don't sacrifice the team to accommodate him as we did with Rooney.

Parker play him or someone similar so that as a team we are stronger.

Blood capable and hungry youngsters whenever we can and look to replace England 'regulars' if youngsters grab their chances and shine. Make it clear that players WILL be dropped should they not perform (I'm looking at you Wayne 'I am never dropped and it is assumed I am the first name on the team sheet even if I am in poor form both for club and country' Rooney.)

Interesting (or Ironic) the football & cricket teams both had a 0 in the scorelines today

231-0 harumph

2-0 great

God I hope we get through and get based in Poland - GF's family have about 6 acres on the outside of Krakow all ready for Camping on. Tent's already packed

Good couple of days, the Millenium really is a fantastic place to watch football. It's great having a football stadium like that in the heart of the city. A midfield with Parker and Wilshire was the best i've seen for sometime.
