derry Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Solent twitter says sources in machester tell them that Dale Stephens is agreeing a move to Saints this afternoon. So where are all the halfwits that were underwhelmed with Brian Howard, a good Championship player who lives locally and Reading didn't want to let go. Of course Stephens must have had a blinder against us last time we played Oldham.
simo Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Are Oldham hard up or something ? Why would you loan out one of your best players ?
Saint_clark Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Are Oldham hard up or something ? Why would you loan out one of your best players ? They are skint, but we could have also agreed a loan to buy deal - if it is even true.

Of course Stephens must have had a blinder against us last time we played Oldham. We'll have to see but I really don't think Stephens will add much to our squad either, depends whether it's just a loan for the rest of the season or a loan with a view to a permanent move.I'd much rather we waited until the summer before thinking about permanent signings.

BH is a missed opportunity, it is not the player coming in fault.Give him a chance if he signs and let the resentment fade.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Are Oldham hard up or something ? Why would you loan out one of your best players ? Yes they are and the only thing that would make any sense for them would be for us to give them some money now.
derry Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Are Oldham hard up or something ? Why would you loan out one of your best players ? A cheap option for us but a lot more money for the player. If he wants to go, the rest is history. So who is he going to replace?
Andyb1 Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 10 goals from midfield for a 21 year old midfielder. Seems quite handy to me.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 10 goals from midfield for a 21 year old midfielder. Seems quite handy to me. Let me say this one last time it's 6 goals and 4 penalties. If you added 4 pens on to each of our midfield players they'd have impressive scoring stats as well.
Saint_clark Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 A cheap option for us but a lot more money for the player. If he wants to go, the rest is history. So who is he going to replace? No-one, he is only on loan - IF it even happens. 10 goals from midfield for a 21 year old midfielder. Seems quite handy to me. He's 23 I think.

georgeweahscousin Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 A decent and young midfielder playing regularly at this level > An ageing Reading reserves player. Just my opinion, but Stephens has a bright future, Howard has stuttered to a mediocre championship career and is money hungry.

BH is a missed opportunity, it is not the player coming in fault.Give him a chance if he signs and let the resentment fade. It's not resentment it's us gambling with the second automatic spot taking the cheap option. Is he even going to be good enough if we get promoted, because this is a ten match gamble with a view to permanent transfer otherwise he wouldn't be coming for only ten games.
Colinjb Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 An ageing Reading reserves player. If '28' is ageing, then I may just have to go curl up and cry.

I'll judge if it's the cheap option when i see him play for us thanks.
SuperMikey Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Bit of background on Dale: He's between 5'7" and 5'9" (conflicting sources). Oldham signed him from Bury a few years back. He's scored 11 goals in 77 appearances for 4 teams, 10 of which have been this season.

You know Im with you regarding |BH, but this lad may be decent and I dont need the fix of a known player, but just somebody who can see a pass and make us tick.
The9 Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 If '28' is ageing, then I may just have to go curl up and cry. In footballing terms it's getting there. I would imagine you're onto your last "full value" contract without your lack of sell on value affecting the wages you can negotiate.
Saint_clark Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 You know Im with you regarding |BH, but this lad may be decent and I dont need the fix of a known player, but just somebody who can see a pass and make us tick. I'd never heard of Hammond before we signed him tbf, and he's been good for us despite what people think.

Saint Charlie Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Sounds like a good player, with Everton, Wigan and Leeds interested in the last few months he must have some potential and has performed well in the League we are in this season.
Liquidshokk Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Could Doble not have been utilised in the squad if we are looking for such a young midfielder? Not that I remember seeing him play but heard he's good... why loan him out?

A 28 year old that his club want to keep, on a good contract until the end of the 2013 season. How the hell do you know Stephens has a bright future he was anonymous against us for Oldham he has a long way to go to satisfy the aspirations of this club. If he stutters in his first match he will be slaughtered.Guly, N'Guessan and Forte have been really wlcomed when they first came. Edited 24 March, 2011 by derry

Liquidshokk Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 He's a striker Said on OS that he is primarily a midfielder but can play as a striker ;-)
Saint_clark Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Said on OS that he is primarily a midfielder but can play as a striker ;-) OS is wrong In fairness, youth players switch all over the place. Lallana and Chamberlain were both CMs in the youth team, Walcott and Dyer both strikers, hell Kenwyne Jones started out at right back.
The9 Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 He's a striker He's very similar positionally to Guly, attacking midfielder / support striker. I should think Ox-Cham can do this as well, as I've mentioned before he's in FourFourTwo magazine this month being surprised that people compare him to Theo because he's always been a centre-mid before.

But you wouldn't want Guly in a two man CM either would you? That would leave the other person doing all the defensive work.
The9 Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 What do you know about Stephens? Dodgy knee, having an op in the next few weeks, nickname "the Beast". Deserved more of a run-out this season than FC Santos could afford him... Awaits tumbleweed and whooshes...
The9 Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 But you wouldn't want Guly in a two man CM either would you? That would leave the other person doing all the defensive work. So play 4-2-3-1 and drop Lambert.
Appy Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 So play 4-2-3-1 and drop Lambert. Why the hell would we drop Lambert?
derry Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 What do you know about Stephens? I saw both the Oldham games and nobody stood out for them. Benchwarmer?
Roger Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 So play 4-2-3-1 and drop Lambert. You are joking? He was very good the other night and scored 17 goals. Some of our fans are really clueless.
Roger Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 I saw both the Oldham games and nobody stood out for them. Benchwarmer? Derry give the bloke a bloomin chance, jesus.
Viking Warrior Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 I hear Brett Omeroid maybe on his way back
Saint_clark Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Here's the all important FM stats (click to enlarge).

Lallana and Chamberlain were both CMs in the youth team, Walcott and Dyer both strikers, hell Kenwyne Jones started out at right back. Exactly how it should be. Lets the players develop in all areas.
Colinjb Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 I hear Brett Omeroid maybe on his way back Would be worth it just for the songs. "Oh posh spice is a slapper.....
Appy Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 I saw both the Oldham games and nobody stood out for them. Benchwarmer? Becchio didn't stand out in either game against Leeds last year, would he be a benchwarmer too?
