Loan deadline day thread...

Recommended Posts

Think he's Oldhams top scorer for the season so far... but not sure we need a left midfielder as much as a CM... unless this is with a view to the longer term and we feel he can play in the Championship....

If indeed any of the rumours are true... a big IF.

Looks as if he plays CM though, well from the Brighton highlights anyway. Takes their penalties, 4 of his 10 this season are from the spot.

4 penalties though.

Well yeah, but he's on 10 now so that means 6 from open play, which is not a bad return for a CM, it's more than Schneiderlin, Hammond has 4 league goals and Chaplow has 4 league goals and 1 FA cup goal (admittedly in less games).

So on very small amount of info, he looks like he'd compete for a starting slot rather than just being brought in as a squad player, and is young enough to improve and perhaps move up a level or two... encouraging that Everton have been sniffing around as well, Moyes knows a good player.

I thought it was clear that Adkins was wanting another midfielder as he Took the unusual step of mentioning a few games back. I find it hard to accept that there are no players who could come out there. Does this mean that Cortese is unable to get some one in and if so why.

Is it funds or lack of. Surely for 10 games rather than risk another season in this league we should get someone in even if costing more than we want. My concern is if we are not spending now, why will anything be different next season. Something just not quite adding up.

Maybe we should wait until 5pm until we speculate on the wider issues. If we havent heard any rumours lately, it doesn't mean anything these days what with saints preference to doing things very quietly

Of course if we sign Stephens as Sky are suggesting I take it all back..............

Would prefer it if it was ITK talk!! ;)

It's not. Logic tells me however that we need some cover and the people that matter know that more than anyone. Morgan is out for the rest of season. AL is possibly injury prone and we have the chance of one or two others missing games between now and the end of the season because of injuries and/or suspensions. We have cover in defence and up front but we need cover in the middle.

I would guess that we will get in a central midfielder on loan today. The club has changed in the last two years and we won't get to hear about it until it happens. Promotion is in our own hands and I really cannot believe for a minute that we will take any chances of letting promotion slip away. The club has been run properly and professionally since Cortese arrived. That won't change now.

Norwich looking at back to back promotions without spending much at all. Good for them really. Perhaps that might show infinite signings aren't the answer? No? Okay then. When we go up people on here are going to demand 11 signings aren't they, then refute any talk of gelling. If 11 signings are made and we don't perform every week, they'll demand more signings on top of that.

I'm sick of the Redknapp/Burley/Admin days of countless player changes. Quality over quantity and good management will get us promoted, nothing else.

With Vokes and Pacheco Norwich will now have 4 players on loans from Premier League clubs in addition to their signings last summer. Whether they've spent a lot or not I couldn't say but they've obtained packet of players from Premier League clubs this season, players like Surman and Ward.

Can we get loans in from abroad or is this window just for national loans?

Surely we can borrow from anywhere. The restriction is on the borrowing club, ie we cannot get anyone after 5pm today if we want them to play this season ...no restriction on where they come from.

To clarify, the BBC site says (my underlining)

Transfers - March 2011

The transfer window is now closed for permanent signings for the remainder of the season.

Premier League and Scottish Premier League clubs cannot sign any players, on loan or full transfers, until the transfer window ahead of the 2011/12 season opens on 1 July.

Clubs in the Football League can sign players on loan outside of the transfer window following a seven-day period after the transfer window closed on 31 January until 1700 GMT on Thursday, 24 March.

Outside of the transfer window, any club may still sign players on an emergency basis (such as if they have no goalkeepers available) with the permission of their competition's governing body, for example the Premier League.

Players who are out of contract and do not have a club can be signed outside of the transfer window if they are unattached free agents when the window closes.

The transfer window does not apply to clubs below Blue Square Bet Premier level.
