Loan deadline day thread...

Recommended Posts

TBF we'd probably lose Adam, Fonte, Oxo etc - but I'm sure we'd reinvest and be as strong next time. (not saying that'll happen, as we'll be promoted this year!!)

I think we would keep:

Davis

All four full-backs

Martin, Seaborne, Jaidi (if he wants to keep playing)

Hammond

Chaplow

Forte

Lambert

Barnard

Guly

Plus Mills, Gobern etc...

We would still have a bloody strong League One spine and we would bring in about £20m in transfer fees which is ridiculous for a third tier team.

Surely that in itself would make it all the more disgusting and disappointing that we'd not gone up in the first place...?

I don't think I would find it "disgusting". It will obviously be disppointing.

The reason we are not virtually home and dry already is our first four home games so I certainly wouldn't be disgusted with Adkins. Whatever happens this season we should stick with him.

I really can't understand why we wouldn't want to bring in a loan and pay 6 weeks salary to get us promoted.

To me its NA & NC either being far too cocky or delusional. What if Lallana and Oxo don't play for 3/4 weeks?By then the automatics opportunity may have gone

Surely you would gamble on paying someone decents salary for 6 weeks knowing if it didn't pay off that Oxo would be off in the summer plus a few others which would more than recoup any money spent over the next 6 weeks

Why are we gambling with promotion as our back options are not good enough imo?

Has the money and backing run out? For me that can be the only logical explanation for not bringing in a decent loan at this stage as we are dangerously short of quality cover in midfield.

Think things to consider are;

window isn't closed so maybe nothing in this anyway - but assuming no-one comes in

if Ox-C and Lallana are out other wide options are Dickson/Harding, Guly, Forte, N'Guessan.

who gets released this late in season? Player not in first team, therefore maybe not match fit - will they be able to come into a squad this late and be better than the above names for a couple of months?? In many cases probably not.

Throwing in an out of favour player could be bigger gamble.

The exceptions for this maybe getting a summer signing in early on loan - again not many clubs release decent players this time of year.

Money run out?

If it had I don't think the training ground scheme would be ongoing, nor would we have signed Guly, Chaplow - added the costs of Forte and N'Guessan, offered an undoubtedly lucrative contract to Lallana.

We would have cashed in on Ox-C.

Rather than money running out, I believe the more logical likely explanations are either we can't get better than we already have or someone is signing tomorrow

Think we should recall that lad thats out on loan if possible, whats his name......

Joseph Mills

As with Puncheon, it's a standard loan to season's end, so we are unable to recall him under the Football League's rules. The only permissible recall clauses are to get players on season-long loans back in the January window.

Howard obviously wants to stay at Reading, but by the looks of it they are willing to let a midfielder go out on loan so Antonio would be good imo and he would slot straight in as the team isn't much different to last year.

I would LOVE that. He was getting a bit more game time for Reading at the start of the season but that seems to have dropped off. He enjoyed his time here and would get games. Win win.

It is 7am in the morning on deadline day. What are you on about?

I am the second person you have admonished for daring to comment on this a few hours early. Where does it say the activity and announcement has to be left to the last second ? There arent even any decent rumours flying around that I am aware of.

There will be no-one at Saints or the FA's offices to announce deals or even process them at this time in the morning.

Most transfers Saints have done since the July 2009 takeover have been kept out of the press.

Let's moan at the club for not even having decent rumours! Lol

What a truly pedantic comment; did the window open at midnight last night ?

In most cases there has been a bit of rumour; the only thing I heard about was Brian Howard frmo Reading and even that looks like it isnt going to happen.

And what if they are available for the game v MK Dons? It is just speculation and whilst a very good loan signing would be nice who is to say that anyone we might want is available and/or willing to come ? This is really "Echo" type speculation, indeed I wouldn't be surprised if this all started with an Echo article !!

What an outrageous and "poorly considered" post ;)

Tell me how exactly you managed to interpret that as a criticism of the club.

Because you stated that the options were either that AL and AOC were fit, or that the management at the club have made a 'significant mis-calculation (sic)'. The lack of rumours would then back up a critical view of said miscalculation by using the modifier 'even'.

I've just seen Eyjólfur Héðinsson from Denmark's FC SønderjyskE leaving St. Mary's. Coincidence? Hows THAT for a decent rumour? What a signing!

Sadly, as it is outside the transfer window and he is from a foreign club we will have to wait for the summer. Shame, I've checked out some You Tube videos and he looks class.

What a load of rubbish. I concede that the "mis-calculation" is a potential criticism, but interpreting an observation of few rumours going round as a criticism of the club is just utter b*ll*cks. One could interpret that as a back-handed compliment - if we sign someone by the time the window closes.

I am assuming from our lack of activity that AOC and Lallana are expected to be OK for the next match ?

Otherwise this was a significant mis-calculation by the management at SFC.

Yesterday you said we should give up on automatic promotion and accept the play offs maybe the club has taken your advice and decided to go with what we have and accept the lottery!

It is both a serious miscalculation and correct at the same time

Echo says that' date=' in addition to the rumour about Dale Stephens of Oldham, we've also had Gary Liddle of Hartlepool scouted recently. Interesting to see whether either club, pushing for the playoffs, would want to loan to us at this stage of the season?[/quote']

Apparantly Oldham need to let a player or two go to pay their squad during the summer....

Intersting to see why Oldham is pushing for the playoffs.

- Oldham are 15 points from the playoffs with 8 games left. Plus they have serious money problems.

Neal Bishop @ Notts County getting some rave reviews. Iain Dowie said he was impressive when watching Brighton game the other night. County only 3 points above Relegation zone so they wont want to part with him. Any decent league 1 players will have to force a move rather than rely on club being ok with the move espcially a loan move which has no real financial benefit other than a possible permenat deal to follow in the summer.
