Charlton 1 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Bitterly disappointed to end the game with a point after taking the lead, and certainly feels like 2 points dropped rather than one gained. But as others have said its not the end of the world, and its still in our hands, if the squad have the mental strength to rise to the challenge. Very concerned about the injuries to Lallana and the Ox though.

With everything going so well for us up until the 86th minute I do feel very flat.

We are in an excellent position, results finally went in our favour and even though we are in a much better place then last friday afternoon..... it feels very anticlimatic.

Fingers crossed the break now will work in our favour regarding Lallana and Alex.

I do agree with that, there's nothing worse than letting a lead slip in the final 5 mins! As other's have said though, it's the saints way...

But I think this break could now work in our favor, we've had alot of games recently - and have alot of games coming up, so they all have a chance to take a collective breather and hopefully more time to get Lallana and Chambo fit.

If we go on a run in April similar to our run in March then we'll get 2nd.

I've done the BBC Predictor about a million times and every time I had this game down as a 1-0 defeat and we still finished 2nd,so I suppose I should be happy with a point, but I'm not,I just feel so gutted tonight, but that's probably more to do with the injuries than the result.

Yet again Saints blow a golden chance to stamp our name on an automatic promotion spot.

And we let a thieving reject do it to us.

And we've maybe lost two of our key players for a while.

Simply not good enough, the job has just become much harder.

Hope some of you are pleased that you got the result you wanted.

Get it into that very very thick head of yours ...... no one wanted Saints to lose or draw tonight but the more realistic people on here that understand a little bit about football get the fact that you simply cannot win every game. We have won 4 out of the last 5 games of which three have been tough away games. Charlton is not an easy place to go and win, nor is colchester or bournemouth but the lads have taken 7 points from those games. A very very good return.

We are now level on points with P'boro, above them massively on GD, have a game in hand, are 2 points behind H'Field with 2 games in hand, massively ahead of them on goal difference as well. In addition, we have only conceded 4 goals in about the last 9 games, a number of which have been away games. We have been scoring regularly and from different areas of the pitch, Jaidi, Fonte, Hammond, Barnard, Lambert, Lallana, Oxo, Chaplow should I go on?!

The job has just become a bit harder, not much harder you over reactive muppet. The fact two players got injured is outisde of our control. The only negative tonight that we could control was conceding late on but having been in front 18 times this season and never lost having been in front, I would suggest that is a very good record.

Now why don't you quit moaning and focus on the positives we have going for us for a change.

Our name is stamped all over automatic promotion because other teams have to play each other yet as well so will almost certainly slip up. Keep up the form of our last 8-9 games, in fact keep up the CONSISTENT form that NA has delivered this season and we will get promoted for sure.

I still think we need to tbh......we've left it pretty late though.

Exactly, it seemed quite urgent after the Bournemouth game according to NA then just over a week later we didnt need anyone.

Wonder what he is saying now ?

I would go and get a decent midfielder and Antonio if Chambo is going to be out for a while cos he still isnt getting off the Reading bench.

If we make do how bare is our bench going to be if Lallana and Chambo are out ?

Lallana injured, Chamberlain injured, 2 points dropped, another opportunity missed, ex player scores... Great!

Fed up of people saying its still in our own hands. If we keep doing this with our games in hand (dont forget walsall) then it soon wont be in our own hands!

I think Peterborough will get automatic and we will be in the play offs personally. Even though Peterborough lost last night they were by far the better team.

Another one, jesus we have won 4 of last 5 with three of them tough away games, what on earth do you want?

We really need to win games like that if we are going to get automatic promotion - losing 2 points tonight and possibly either or both of Lallana and Chamberlain for a number of games definately feels like a bad loss to me!

We don't really have thet strength in depth that Atkins supposed to have talked up - so for the next game against MK Dons we could be without Lallana, Schneiderlin, Chamberlain and Gobern on the pitch or on the bench.

It's all about momentum - and at the moment our's seems to be slipping away! Three points tonight would have rally put the pressure on Peterborough and Hudderfield for the next few games - Saturday's certainly - injuries or not! Now the pressure will be on us to really make those games in hand count. And to be honest I'm not so sure our players can handle presssure!

If an understrength Saints lose to an infrom MK Dons the pressure is really going to heat up!

4 wins and a draw in five games is not momentum? I give up with some of our fans, I really do. ****ing knee jerkers!! And yes, I do have a bee in my bonnet about the number of people who are making stupid statements about players not handling pressure etc. FFS, we lost arguably 2 of our best three players tonight in an away game and still came within a whisker of winning. Prior to that we won our previous four games that were critical to our chances. If they couldnt handle the pressure we would not even have got where we are.

We were shocking tonight, the lack of depth on the bench is poor. The style of play was awful, we couldn't keep the ball and just resorted go playing it long. Charlton were very poor and to not capitalise is shocking.

NA wants to get back to the training pitch and sort it out and NC should be on the phone from now until the end of play on Thursday to fill the big hole Lallana and Ox will leave. NGuessian isn't good enough at the moment and didn't see enough of Forte to tell.

Shame it was all set up for a good night and we let ourselves down with our poor style. Still time yet to get it right.

Just back from the game, N'Guesseun should never play football again, let alone for Saints. He is complete and utter rubbish. Should have won tonight, Charlton looked liked a team with no confidence and were poor.

Having said that a point isn't the end of the world.

So with the injuries to Lallana and Chambo does anyone still think we dont need to go and get a midfield player in on loan before Thursday's deadline ?

Do we know how bad the injuries are or are we just guessing? Honest question, I had to leave the radio to look after my little boy.

As I said last night, whenever it really matters that they get three vital points Saints have throughout their history f***** it up and true to form they f***** it up big time again tonight!

Now with Lallana and Chamberlain gone we are up sh** creek, paddleless, rudderless and clueless. All the sh** has hit our fan at once and you know, don't you just know that we are not going to get out of this crappy league this season. If Adders didn't seal his own fate tonight then Cortese wants his head examined but there again you knew he'd keep putting off the inevitable until it was too late. Bring back Dave Merrington before all is lost.

MKDons & Charlton without Lala, Schneiderlin and Chambo doesn't bear thinking about whether we're at home or not.

Another sleepless bloody night - thanks guys, thanks a bunch! W**kers!

That's my point -we had momentum with 12 points out of 12 despite not actually playing very well. After a decent second half on Saturday tonight was our real chance to step it up and keep the momentum going - but snatching a draw from a victory and losing Lallana and Chamberlain to injury (along with Morgan) isn't exactly a big step forward!

And my comment about pressure is based on watching these players over the course of a season - they are not good a handling pressure - don't be fooled by the last 3 or 4 results - we have played badly and won games due to the ability of individual players at key moments - and the terrible teams we played against in Swindon, Yeovil and Sheff Wednesday. As a team we have not played well for quite a while.

Winning games has glossed over the reality of our team for some people.

We should be top of this league with the players we have got in our starting 11- and our supposed strength in depth - not 12 points behind the leaders and fighting for second place.

Charlton were there for the taking tonight - after their terrible run of form and lack of confidence - MK Dons certainly won't be!

Yeah because NA can influence injuries to players in matches and should have headed the chip into the box clear ..... drama queen and sad if you cannot sleep as a result of this ffs!

Just back, sipping a Tsing Tao.

What a load of crap.

Charlton were dreadful.

We didn't seem to string more than 2 passes together the whole game.

Barnard - we should start calling him Carpet - he spends as much time on the floor as Heskey used to. Yeah he's a busy player but he was bundled off the ball so much.

AOC is still off the pace, ran into blind alleys, Lallana had 2 players on him before the injury.

Impressed again by Fonte & Jaidi's movement & reading of the game, can't believe that a split second before Guly took the corner Future Son in Law (Spud fan) says - goal coming, Jaidi. Feck me he was far more effective than any Nun pictures.

Had a great day out, met a few in the Market Porter, had enough beers but sorry, we were WAY better than the garbage that Charlton were playing. My only real thought is that we seem to almost be overcoached now and lacking in real true passion. The way Charlton played in the last few minutes at pace and with passion was the first sign of a true football match trying to break out.

Disappointed, but not a disaster, more a wasted opportunity to be honest and worried about AL & AOC

"After Wright-Phillips had levelled, Dany N'Guessan had an even later strike disallowed for offside, with replays showing the effort should have stood."

Charlton OS... so really we should have won 2-1 and this thread would have been very different. Still frustrated.

Jeez take a chill pill some of you guys .. a point at Charlton is hardly the disaster some of you think it is.... and if Chambo and Adam were to pick up knocks id rather it was in this game with a full 11 days til our next one.. young lads quick healers etc .

And i find it quite galling that some of you have no intention of supporting the newer members of our squad whetever they do .. Nguessan and Forte just might need you as much as we may need them from now so bloody get behind them and let them feel wanted and needed....no one is ever gonna produce a performance full of confidence with half the crowd slating them FFS! ..

Back from game and really disappointed.

N'Guessan had looked poor since coming on with a lousy first touch, but his finish was fine and his goal should have stood.

Saw way too much header tennis and hoofing it in the air for my liking - I thought Nigel said we liked to get the ball down and play?

Thought Barnard looked lively, but was being held down every time he got in the box. Fonte Jaidi Harding and Butterfield looked solid most of the game.

Oxo failed to impress before being injured - hope that's not serious - and losing Lallana seemed to meaning losing all flair in the final 3rd of the pitch.

Rickie was working hard, but we didn't create enough chances and with 5 minutes to go you just knew BWP would score.

Especially after singing about him thieving from skates ;)

It feels like we were robbed, but could be an important point in the run-in....here's hoping.

He took it very well also.Would have shut the mouthy git up behind us, Jeez anyone would have thought N'Guessan was Mugabe Gaddafi & Saddam combined the amount of stick he was giving him, inbetween the excessive use of the Eff word.

Oh and how nice to have a smoke at half time... I was told

Big shame that no-one's praised Radhi's great strike.

Wouldn't fancy getting in the way of his celebration though and hope it's not the last time we witness it.

Worst aspect for me is the long break but perhaps it's just what we all need right now, might have to do something 'normal' this weekend now.

F ucK me who died and made you god? Saints fans ****ed off and upset they didn't win after conceding in the last five miniutes shocker. Not great not bad. I came in after a night out with (non football) mates clicked on the beeb for the result as soon as I saw BWP grinning mug I knew it wasn't going to be great news. A point away from home ain't terrible. Lallana and chambo injuried might well be though. Hopefully we will smash them at SMS in the return match.

Well just home. How we didn't win that i will never know. Up until like the last 5 mins or so they did nothing. I couldn't even remember Kelvin having to do much if anything at all.

So a bit ****ed off we threw it away with some **** defending but it isn't the end of the world.

What worries me though is that in our 2 games in hand that we have now played we have got a massive 1 point from them. Meaning having games in hand means nothing if you don't win them.

Hopefully our injuries today are not serious as losing AOC and Lallana for the next game would be a huge loss.
