surely...SURELY we are going to go 2nd tonight..?

I know we will be knocked off 2nd spot next week, but to get the table showing us 2nd STILL with games in hand will be good..

come on saints....

I have only read up to page 3 and I see "its" already fully in flow ! Imo we must win tonight , not because stats dictate it and its the end of our hopes for second place but because it puts a marker down ! We were favourites to win this league and rightly so we had a few hicups at the start of the season but we are now flying and the other teams will be thinking oh well we held them off for as long as we could if we take second tonight! Can't believe I'm missing this match, but sadly it has to be. Therefore I'll be listening to Merrington and writing inane comments on here instead while looking forward to the fact I'm going to every game from now on.

Still, I'll be able to see how the forum runs during a match for once.

If ever there is a "stepping up to the plate" game then this is it...

COYS you can do it...

Nope, apparently the consensus opinion is that tonight doesnt matter in the scheme of things

Nope, the consensus opinion is that automatic promotion is still possible after tonight whatever the result. Winning would put us in a fantastic position - lose and it's still in our hands anyway.

No it isn't the consensus Alps, its just the majority don't go into meltdown if we drop points at any part of the season. None of us are saying, oh, don't worry about tonight take a game off. We are just saying that it takes the pressure off of us a little, which if anything is a good thing.

For me, absolutely nothing has changed, 6 points from the next 3 games is what is needed and anything else is a massive massive bonus.

Tonight is a big game, but it is no longer out of desperation but because it puts us firmly in the driving seat, and yes there is a difference.

So the consensus opinion is that it doesnt matter in the scheme of things. Thanks for confirming

You know full well what the difference is. You're trying to make out that nobody cares if we lose tonight except you. Are you denying that it'll still be in our hands even if we lose?

Question for alps.

Alpy a wee while back you were saying we were having a far worse season than last year . Do you still subscribe to that? Also have you done a u turn re your comments about relegation . Apologies ifit was not you?

Interestingly if you take 10 points away from us this season we'd be in 8th place, 7 points off the play-offs - so we're doing pretty much exactly the same as last season.

Went to my local to watch the game, but its "darts night" I just did a 180 and left!

Oh Noes - hope she wasn't wearing scanty lingerie, we may need her later.

You and your One NUN dead and eighty could cost us dearly.

Win..... and i will be delighted.

Draw.....would be a fairly decent reult away from home and does little damage to our promotion hopes.

Lose.......i will be very dissapointed we did not manage to capitalise on what would have been a great opportunity to ease a little of the pressure, and place that on those around us.I would also have questions about the players and management, are upto the task of grabbing 2nd spot,do they have the bottle? the right mindset.

Play some lovely football, commanding display and manage that for more than a half a football match, which would probably be the second half as we start so very poorly,.......i will be delighted and surprised.

Not quite, but there is a f**k of a lot of complacency around here at the moment. Lets hope the team doesnt feel it.

Brilliant anecdote about the 6-3 United game just then.

I'd have been tempted to be far less polite to Keane - but maybe it was that moment that riled Keane so much that it contributed to his sending off ... LOL

Davis, Butterfield, Fonte, Jaidi, Harding, Lallana, Hammond, Chaplow, Chamberlain, Barnard, Lambert.

Subs: Bialkowski, Richardson, A. Martin, Seaborne, Forte, N'Guessan, Guly.

Hard not to be happy with that really, shame that we don't have a recognised central midfielder on the bench though, IMO its a bit of a damning indicament of the reserves and youth squads.

Guly is technically a CM as well as Lallana and Chamberlain starting out in that position. Butterfield can also play there if needed.

I think the next option for CM from the development squad would be 15 year old Ward-prowse...probably not a good idea at such an important stage of the season.

Any chance of somebody sending that bit onto Solent - unable to do it from overseas.

Possibly, but i aswell as you i suspect would not be happy if we needed to play chambo, lallana or guly in the middle for any extended length of time. I suppose Butters could do a job in the centre but only in a sureing up sense as i suspect he isn't technically good enough to perform there.

Its still a bit of a shame that there is nobody there, but then, we do have 2 CM's injured/banned so i can't moan too much.

Yeah, let's find another stick to beat the club with.

Whoa Whoa, TBF i think i am usually placed in the happy clappy camp from the rest of the negatives, so i am going to say i can see both sides of that particular arguement.
