alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Although I hope we win tomorrow a draw would be a good result like Peterborough we will not win all our remaining games What a pathetic limp-wristed unambitious opinion. We must win. This is it, our time to put some space between us and the chasing pack. We MUST sieze the opportunity if we are serious in our intent to get promoted. I keep hearing how a season is a "marathon, not a sprint". The analogy I prefer is that we are Seb Coe (not Steve Ovett, since hes from Brighton), trying to position ourselves just behind the right shoulder of the leader going into the final bend of the 1500M Olympic Final. The final bend is upon us, and the other runners have left a gap. Time to sprint for the finish line.
niceandfriendly Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Really looking forward to this one now. Shame I have to work all day, but straight from work in Covent Garden to Charing Cross then onto Charlton Rail is an easy journey so not all bad. Hoping for a cracking atmosphere, which it will be if we're allowed to stand all game. COYF**KINGR

Why don't you do everyone a favour and stop whinging or go and support another team as you never have anything positive or good to say about Saints.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We must win. What utter crap. So if we lose it's all over is it?
dellboypete Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 I feel a "Saints fans who work in London" pub crawl in my waters one evening in the summer.... :-) sign me up!
alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 What utter crap. So if we lose it's all over is it? It could be. Sooner or later we have to put some distance between ourselves and the others. This may be the opportunity. Really, I have no time for this idiotic namby-pamby doing-the-maths sh*t that tries to rationalise why we dont need to win a game.
Andyb1 Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 I notice a pattern developing with you. Anyone disagrees with your vision of how things should proceed, they apparently dont have a clue about "how football works". Why dont you put a sock in it ? I notice a pattern developing to. It's that you spout endless sh*t and no one ever agree's with you. Take the hint and go elsewhere, you bore everyone here.
alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Why don't you do everyone a favour and stop whinging or go and support another team as you never have anything positive or good to say about Saints. Utter b*ll*cks from you as usual. I think my statement about the importance of our winning IS a positive statement.

dellboypete Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 The good old days when the valley held 70,000. Went to the infamous 2nd division game when we got hammered 6-2(?) in 1976(?) when some bearded charlton striker scored 4 or more goals (derek hales?). (My memory isn't what it used to be) All I can remember apart from getting hammered (on the pitch) was that The Valley was in a sorry state and the huge terrace was still there
alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Really, I have no time for a so called fan like you. You never have anything positive to say about the club so why don't you just **** off. Let me know when you've run out of toys and the pram needs a refill.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Latest From CAFC Ticket Office I've just phoned them up and they have 300 or 400 tickets that they have kept by for cash on the night sale to away fans.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Utter b*ll*cks from you as usual. I think my statement about the importance of our winning IS a positive statement. Utter negative ******** from you as usual. Some people have a glass half full or empty outlook but you don't even have a glass! I'm so glad you don't go to games. Imagine 2000 Alpines in the away end tonight.
Turkish Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We dont HAVE to win. If we dont win tonight it doesn't mean we wont go up. However a win will put us in the box seat, same points as huddersfield with two games in hand and two points clear of Peterbourgh with one in hand, not forgetting they have to play each other yet. We have a fantastic opportunity to put ourselves in the driving seat against a Charlton side without any confidence on a terrible run and most of their fans expect to get spanked. I wont be satisfied with a draw, second is ours to lose now and if we fail to capitlise tonight against a team Dagenham and Rebridge beat on saturday and have lost at home to Brentford, Carlise and Exeter in recent weeks then it'll be hugely disapointing.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Imagine 2000 Alpines in the away end tonight. That'd be jolly.
Turkish Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 That'd be jolly. there probably wouldn't be room, he's quite a big lad, would probably need two seats each.

I think I need to be out of the building by 7 to male the 19.17 from london bridge. Its going to be very close. If anybody sees an overweight, out of breath chap in a suit show up late, that's probably me.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Let me know when you've run out of toys and the pram needs a refill. What is really hilarious is that you don't go to games and you admitted you don't even listen to games, yet you're an expert on how rubbish we are.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 there probably wouldn't be room, he's quite a big lad, would probably need two seats each. But on the flip side we could buy some ****ing good players with the proceeds from the pie sales.

dellboypete Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 ............meanwhile, getting back to the footy............. http://www.cafctv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2321414,00.html Well written and well researched preview on the Charlton OS for those who are interested. A very informative piece. The bit that I had forgotten and surprised me......... Charlton host Southampton on Tuesday night (7.45pm) in a rearranged League One clash after the original fixture was postponed on Boxing Day. Back then, the Addicks were sitting in fourth place in the table, one point off Sheffield Wednesday in second spot. We were 9th when we beat Brentford on Dec11 and then went upto 5th when we beat H'fld on 28th dec and haven't been out of the top 5 since. In hindsight it was probably a good thing that the game was called off
Super_Uwe Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 It could be. Sooner or later we have to put some distance between ourselves and the others. This may be the opportunity. Really, I have no time for this idiotic namby-pamby doing-the-maths sh*t that tries to rationalise why we dont need to win a game. You miss the point completely about people "justifying" poor results. I am not sure anyone on here is trying to think of 1,001 reasons why we should not win a game and it be acceptable. If we were to win the next 11 games and thus seal automatic promotion, it would be a truly epic achievement. The reality is that we are very unlikely to do that - not because we're crap or bottlers, but because winning 15 league games in a row would simply be out of this world. Charlton are still a dangerous team and although they've contrived to f*** up their season so far, I would be satisfied (not happy, just satisfied) with a point tonight. You have to look at the bigger picture which is something I believe you consistently fail to do.
dune Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We have to win. No we don't you idiot. Everyone wants us to win, but if we don't most people will be disapointed but we'll move on and stick behind the team. And then there's you that will bore us all senseless with your negativity. We don't need fans like you, what we need now more than ever is for everyone to get behind the club for the final push. You'll never ever be happy.
Toomer Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Wish I was going, not sure if I can take 90 mins of being tuned into it on the radio.

I agree with you that tonight is a great opportunity to put ourselves in the driving seat, but if we dont win tonight we can still overtake the other two with our remaining games in hand over them and they have to play each other. I dont agree with this "'i'd take a draw" nonsense, as i said if we fail to take advantage against what has been a very poor Charlton side given their form and the circumstances only a win is a good result, anything else will be massively disapointing, but not a disaster.
alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 You miss the point completely about people "justifying" poor results. You have to look at the bigger picture which is something I believe you consistently fail to do. I complete disagree with your assertion. Only a few weeks ago we blew a shoe-in game against Walsall. That can easily happen again. You simply cannot say that a point tonight is enough, because you really dont know what is going to happen in the following games, however much you play with a predictor tool. I know deep down we wont win all 11 games. But we have to set our stall out like that is the target, and take each failure to secure 3 points really badly in order to motivate for the next game to ensure it doesnt happen again. Tonight represents such a golden chance to go second, if we dont take it because the team dont appreciate it and arent up for it, you really have to wonder how they will dig deep enough over the next 6 weeks to regain that chance and then hold on to it.
benjii Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We have to win. 2nd place has been handed to us on a platter, FFS. We just have to reach out and grab it. You realise that even if we win today we will probably not be second by the end of the weekend regardless? Turkish is completely right. We don't "have" to win but it will be a bit annoying if we don't.
benjii Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 You simply cannot say that a point tonight is enough, because you really dont know what is going to happen in the following games, however much you play with a predictor tool. Right, which is exactly the same reason why you can't say we must win.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 get behind the lads tonight.lets have ninety minutes of non stop singing.its as much us as the players on this run in,if we go behind lets roar them on again.will put clips up later for those who cant make it.coys, wifm

Yet more crap from you. The team are clearly up for it, but that doesn't mean to say that they'll win every week. Look at P'boro last night. I'd love to see your posts on the posh board if you were a P'boro fan.

Cricketphilly Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 All games are must win game as far as I'm concerned, but the chances are we won't win them all. Sorry to bring my slant on reasoning to the debate.
sandwichsaint Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 The good old days when the valley held 70,000. Think D'Urso would have had something to say about that...
ericofarabia Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Lol Gonna be a great away day! Woke up early up in Essex. Cup of Tea with SSN and Woo Hoo there I am all over SSN during their interview with Tiger. Hahaha! So some work, Central Line into town for a mtg then Market Porter about 5:30 before watching another great perfomrance tonight! almost the best -(try the Bree Louise nr Euston - outstanding plus 50p discount for Camra members !) Market Porter is outstanding (see my note above somewhere) and so easy to get to in London (5 mins from my office - so I'll be there about 5pm) The Dubai Saints Massive well repped. Have a couple for me lads
dubai_phil Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 The Dubai Saints Massive well repped. Have a couple for me lads A COUPLE??? You are 'avin a larf mate, SURELY Will be good when a game of football breaks out to interupt the b1tching on here!
Bearsy Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We must win tonight's game. Therefore if we don't our season is over, and I will not post again till August.
Lets B Avenue Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 A COUPLE??? You are 'avin a larf mate, SURELY Will be good when a game of football breaks out to interupt the b1tching on here! Hi, Phil. We are getting there at about 4.15. I trust you will act as my "Official" Security for the evening.

Andyb1 Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We must win tonight's game. Therefore if we don't our season is over, and I will not post again till August. If Alpine would commit to that, i'd take the loss.
Greedyfly Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 It could be worse. I've just had a meeting booked in for 5.30 near st pauls. South Londoner Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 I'm leaving the office at 4.30, taking a leisurely stroll across to Charing Cross and catching the 17.29 to Charlton. Then I'm having a chinky at the Dragon & Phoenix near Charlton station. See you all later.
Eastcowzer Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Think D'Urso would have had something to say about that... What are the odds on d'Urso making a complete bo----ks at least once in the game, - and probably againts Saints. I have a awful feeling he'll make one, at least, of his typical FU's, - and 'you don't know what your doing' rang loud and clear through the evening air. Fingers and legs crossed.
dubai_phil Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Hi, Phil. We are getting there at about 4.15. I trust you will act as my "Official" Security for the evening. Lol Head of security and saver of little children will be there around then (see Tiger Interview on SSN) lol - he was right - one poor little love got absolutely splattered by big fat drunk ex pat blokes chasing autographs!)
Andy Durman Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 It would be great if we win tonight, but a draw will also be a good result away from home and a point nearer. A win makes things a little easier and gets us closer to the finishing line.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 To some degree i have to agree with Alps and say we MUST win tonight. If we dont it is far from over but what it does do is put even more pressure on us with each passing game if we fail to win tonight against a very poor Charlton side who's own fans expect to get tonked. Unlike Alps I can base my judgement on seeing Saints regularly and i must admit that i have not been overly confident this season. In patches we have played some very entertaining and very good football but i think we have almost adapted to this horrible league and changed into a side that grinds out results without looking particularly good. (If this gets us promoted i for one will be very happy) The one think that really worries me and i dont think i'm alone in this is we only seem to play in the second half of games recently and this could be our undoing if NA doesnt get the boys fired up from the very off. We should be at Charltons throats from the very off tonight. CMON YOU REDS!!
ericofarabia Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Hey guys leave Alps alone - he has been our Talisman recently logging onto The Matchday Thread 10 mins into the 2nd half and saying "oh FFS see we aren't winning / under the cosh surprise surprise" and within moments Wham Bang Thank you mam we score. Various people have tried taking credit for those goals by saying they've just been out for a crafty fag or a lucky dump or posted a picture of a scantilly clad nun - but we all know that the truth is Alps is da Man. So if by some strange reason we aren't winning at half time get down to Ladbrookes or whatever and place a bet that Barney will score in the 59th Minute (just after Alps has posted!!) COYS. Hopefully we won't have to rely on his magic tonight and save it for another match instead.
