Smirking_Saint Posted 20 March, 2011 Share Posted 20 March, 2011 I agree with that and was surprised he got Sky's MoM. Thought Hammond was our best player by a distance yesterday. I thought he had a decent game TBF, he always looked a class above everyone else on the pitch, I love the way he makes so much space for himself and always manages to get away from his marker despite his lack of any real pace. That for me is the sign of a great player. DISCLAIMER - I AM IN NO WAY COMPARING LALLANA TO A CERTAIN PLAYER IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH, I AM ONLY MAKING A COMPARISON. MY VIEWS ARE OF MY OWN AND IN NO WAY ENDORSED BY THE SAINTS WEB COMMUNITY. even though they should be He reminds me a little of Messi, in the fact that he is very direct, stamps his own style all over games and again isn't blessed with bags of pace. He seems so much stronger this season aswell, best piece of business we have done this year IMO.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 20 March, 2011 Share Posted 20 March, 2011 Lallana has a great football brain when on the ball and his decision making to determine what he does when in possession is also great. One area he can improve is getting involved in games and dictating them more rather than having 'moments'. Some of that is down to playing on the left but also some of it is knowing when to drift inside and when to stay out wide. It would also be nicer if we played through him a bit more rather than relying on him picking up layoffs from the strikers after a long diagonal up the pitch. NickG Posted 20 March, 2011 Share Posted 20 March, 2011 Lallana was sh1t.....by his standards! Still absolute class. You normally struggle to find a single time he miss controls, makes the wrong decision etc. Just thought he looked more human yesterday, a couple of poor first touches. Just to be clear -only by his standards, he was still good.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Well I hope there is enough evidence for him to get prosecuted irrespective of your strange stance on the whole thing. Why is my stance on it all "Strange"? If I take this further and go for prosecution then it will be a right headache, shít loads of paperwork, endless statements... All for what!? The c*nt to get 10 hours community service? I barely have time to wipe my arse as it is, I don't need this shít dragging and making it worse. I have no faith in the justice system, hence why I'm in no rush to waste my te in it.
OldNick Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 I felt we looked fairly lethargic first half and not for KD's race out of the box to clear we may have gone 1 down. IMO they looked the likeliest to score first half. RL skill bringing the ball under control from the high ball was superb, reminded me of a great former player. Once again we needed a set piece to break the dead lock, that is a bit of a concern but i will take it. We played some better stuffafter we scored and i felt unusually calm for the last part of the match as we did look quite comfortable. No Wednesday player stood out, usually the opposition have a player who shines not saturday

If he smashed you in the face and broke your nose/cut your lip he will get charged with GBH. That is likely to carry a custodial term, particularly if he has previous (and we have seen that football-related offences tend to get punished quite severly). You are helping to reinforce his behaviour and he will probably punch someone else soon.

doddisalegend Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Usual pants first half followed by good second half which seems to be becoming the norm for us. Lamberts goal was brilliant he just needs to be in those sort of places more often. Atmosphere was good, second half even my sleepy little part of the chapel had a bit of singing going on. Ref seemed a tad basis was does Lambert have to do to get a free kick? Pretty enjoyable match all in all.
OldNick Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Good lord. they did, they had a few corners that they won some headers that thankfully were not on target, a decent shot that went wide and KD had to sweep up a through ball, we created less first half IMO

I felt that wednesday were more threatening in the first half, although quaility was lacking on both sides HTBH.

We were unconvincing first half and the game was in the balance. Not that i think Wed were very good but they created a few half chances and if one had been taken!! once we scored it did seem less of a threat

derry Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 I think we played better as a team in the second half when Hammond and Chaplow played closer to each other. Up to then they were mostly about 50 yds apart. It's the same with the two stikers they have to double team and play off each other. The second goal, Davis, Lambert nod on, Barnard shot blocked, Lambert scores from 12 yds was the way they should play but often Lambert drifts wide and leaves Barnard isolated. SNSUN Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 We're still winning ugly, but that's fine by me, as long as we do keep winning. What I was pleased about on Saturday was how good our players are technically. Rickie's goal showed great technique, Dean Hammond had a great shot that required some effort to keep it down, and Alex's curling shot at goal, which was on target and made with his weaker foot. Good stuff. Wednesday were woeful, we won't always get it that easy - I was however suprised when they substituted Osbourne - who had up to that point been their best player. (Sans their keeper.) It looks like Adkins is thinking about the fixture list and trying to get us to win games with the least amount of effort.

And what a great pass it was by Davis. Low, flat, drilled like an arrow straight onto Lambert's head. Great vision and better execution than nearly all of our outfield players would manage. The cherry on the cake of a faultless display.

dubai_phil Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Really enjoyed the game can see what we are trying to do. We played some incredibly intricate football in well coached patterns in 1st Half. Most organised I have seen a Saints team try and play Most early moves broke down around AOC but the fear factor meant he had double coverage and left acres for Harding to move into when Lallana went walkabout. We tried everything as if to a plan down the left down the right through the middle. It was intelligent football. I have also no doubt that many will have found it boring and passionless. It was anything but, sure it was Ineffective in 1st Half and we needed the goal from a set piece, BUT I see what we are doing I see value in it and I came away happy that we had won an easy game in the end Now that AIN'T saying I think it would work but it was a revelation SEEING us for a change!
