aap3 are the New Sponsor thread...

This is the final straw for me, i really have had a gutful of SFC. I have been disgusted with the goings on at this club ever since the Liebhers and Cortese rolled up. I really dont know who they think we are and long for the glory days of Lowe, Wilde and Hone. The things they have failed to improve and introduced are shocking. We still have a dodgy PA system and queues so long for beer and food at half time it forces me to miss 30 minutes of every game. Our automated car park entrance system is a disgrace, only Cortese would introduce something which patronisingly wishes you to "have a nice day" as you leave the car park. What with us failing to spend as much as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool combined in the transfer window to make sure promotion was a certainy and now to cap it all this! Why are our sponsors not Microsoft, Coke or NASA FFS? Who are AAP3? This is a 3 year deal FFS, we could be in the premier league with the least know sponsors in top flight. What really worries me is the top players will look at us and our sponsors and think we are small time, they wont want to join a club where the sponsors aren't as big as Carlsberg or Fly Emirates FFS. Thanks again Cortese, you've embarassed us in the transfer market, you've patronised us with you parking system now you are throwing away any chance of being a big club again with this short sighted an small time sponsorship deal. I am OUTRAGED and just about to compose a strongly worded email to the club telling them exactly what i think of them.

 Goodbye

Yes thats right some bloke called Amir Al Zawaadi from a cave in pakistan is likely to be looking to sponser a 3rd teir english football club to raise his profile before he starts a dragons den type pitch to colonel gadaffi to sell some chemical weapons.

Does it really make a difference to us or the city of southampton if we are sponsored by a firm based in Southampton or Beirut?

Ok my case was extreme but the point holds there are certain companies with ethics that I wouldn't wanted associated with the club so to a point yes it does make a difference to me. Would I buy a shirt with the logo of a company I was unhappy with for ethical reasons and give them free sponsorship every time I wore it? No I wouldn't. The new sponsoring company I have no problem with so in effect no it makes no difference to me in this case.

They made a 30k profit last year, so you reckon they are pumping millions into the sponsorship?

It will be a significant cost - around half a million at a guess. The 30k profit is a red herring and doesnt mean in the slightest that they are not a hugely succesdful company.

I am sorry but who cares really? The important thing is that it is comercially the best decision for the club. Who cares if we have Apple, IBM, Nike whatever on the shirt it is a sponsor get a grip what where you expecting NASA? If you have major issues go and see your GP. Otherwise lets concentrate on getting behind the team and the club and trying to get back to where we belong. If we get back to the Premiership are you going to winge about what the logo looks like. I am not, I don't care.

Rant over!

Can't say I'm particularly bothered about the sponsor (provided we're not skint of course, which would make it a little more important), but I could swear I heard Cortese blathering on about a blue-chip sponsor next time at some point.

I can't find a link to it though... and I've already checked the announcement that flybe weren't continuing the sponsorship AND the "no sponsor on the home kit this season" announcement.

I wonder if it was something that came out of one of his fan lunches....

I am still outraged at this news..

I came home from the local last night and beat the missus out of my anger....she is now cowering under the stairs..

I tell you what, how very dare the club get a new shirt sponsor.....the fecking cheek

Do you hear voices in your head or something?

On four pages there is only a couple of people who don't think it is a good thing

Some of the posts on this thread are SO ridiculous that you have to conclude people are just being ironic/sarcastic, but without putting the little winky/emoticon things at the end.

In an ideal world I'm sure we'd all agree it'd be better if we didn’t have any sponsor and it has been nice to be able to afford not to have one this season, but ultimately we need the funds that this will bring in.

I’d not heard of aap3 before, but am glad we’ve gone for a local business. I hope we help raise their profile nationally in return for their advertising revenue.

The logo itself looks ok to me, it’s better than the Friends Provident one in my opinion. The flybe logo was used on several other team shirts, at least this one will only appear on our shirts.

So long as we are not being sponsored by someone ridiculous like Tampax or Garry Glitter’s photography company, I’m not overly bothered.

Thanks aap3 for being happy to pay us money for the next 3 years!

This thread has made for good ROFL reading.

We are rich, We don't need sponsor money hence why we did not have a sponsor this year. We are helping out a local firm.

Saints mongs strike again!

I'm not overly bothered by who sponsors us, but that post is one of the biggest loads of s**te I've seen on here. "We don't need the money" "Helping out a local firm"!!!

think aap3 should have done some advertising / sponsorship work to get their name better known before they took out a sponsorship deal.

But surely all the advertising slots are taken up by marketing companies advertising themselves ?

My thoughts exactly. Main reason I bought this season's shirt (twice - home and away) is the lack of a sponsor's name/logo.

Seriously underwhelmed - was expecting a "household name" according to all the Cortese-hype.

Household names do not sponsor clubs in L1 or even CCC generally. They will usually look at the big boys as it matches their own size / ego / status etc. Local company seems a good fit for a club that wants to consider itself part of the local community. Another step toward Saints having a family feel to it again?

Happy enough with the sponsorship deal, gutted about the shirt. The only red in it is the bloody logo!!

Has anyone seen the away shirt yet?

There is absolutely nothing that I could see in the article suggesting that is actually going to be our new shirt. It's a plain shirt for logo illustration I would imagine ;-)

I hope the people on here moaning about the new sponsor realise just how f-king ridiculous they all sound. Time to sit down, chill out and take a large dose of reality. We're a 3rd division club and those expecting us to be sponsored by the likes of Sony or Apple need to remember this. It's no wonder we're fast becoming the new Leeds United. Jeez... grow up.

"we're in negotiations with players and a very important [potential sponsorship] brand" "Important brand" to who! Who's heard of them outside the field they operate!! Like i said Clarky dont give a Flying Ferk who they are, but we have the right to feel dissapointed or underwhelmed!! I mean FFS Poopey got J(G)ob****e! We get aaP3!!

Does it matter so long as the deal is right for us? (and with Cortese I'm sure it will be)

Surely better to have the right financial deal with a local company than be screwed down by a well known brand that may not want to offer as much?

Basically, I'm sure this will have gone through a tender process and the criteria to be met has been met by these guys and not any well known brands of interest. I really don't know why you're getting your budgie smugglers in a twist!!

I have to say I was hoping for a bit more if a wow factor - the launch also seems to have been a bit of a damp squib! And I don't understand why a business-to-business company would sponsor a football club - particularly a recruitment company / IT managed services company supposedly in the global marketplace It's makes much more business sense for a consumer brand or even a regionally focused company.

It's certainly a come down from Friends Provident or Flybe!

I was hoping for someone like Skandia or Aegis (or whatever it's called now - was Fortis).

I can't imagine the deal is worth that much to the club - smacks a bit of last resort - if not a favor to someone! It's a bit of a stupid name and a daft logo as well - and there website is not even that clear about what they do.

Reminds me a bit of the Sanderson deal which had a similar 'favour' feel to it!

I think I would have preferred to have remained sponsorless!

It's Ageas, I used to work for them and I can assure you they would never be in the market for sponsorship of Southampton FC as they do their marketing for insurance virtually always through intermediaries so no need to sell the brand there.

I don't think people are moaning about the sponsor, per se, more that quotes attributed to the chairman heavily hinted at a household name. As a result, it's understandable that many might be somewhat underwhelmed.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss whether it's a big name or not, as long as the deal is bringing the right sort of money into the club.

Of course the sponsor matters, not for who they are or how much cash they have, but their logo.

When the new shirt comes out, there will be a 20 page thread about different tones of red, how many millimetres long the collar is, the diameter of the buttons, so what sits smack bang in the middle of the chest in a 10in x 10in space is quite significant.

I quite like the plain white shirt shown in the picture on the OS by the way, makes is look a bit more like Spurs.

Anyway people take whatever Cortese says far too literally.

They are a global company with over 500 staff in 30 countries.

Look at their client list...

AT&T

IBM

BAE Systems

CISCO

Deutsche Bank

HSBC

Nokia

Orange

Sony

Hardly small time, just in a industry many would be unaware of those involved.

I really dont care who sponsors us but after all the talk of a multi-national conglomerate as thats the only companies Nicola wants us to associate with, this is underwhelming. I like the fact its local and all the gumph but it's not the sort of brand people had in mind when the rumours were that it would be a huge company like one of their clients...

Just because a company has an impressive client base doesnt mean they are in the same bracket.

I just hope they change their logo because it is sheeite as Liam Gallagher would put it.

Out of interest is this the sponsorship deal that the dark forces of evil tried to undermine as mentioned by NC in that interview with the BBC? to quote

"This is a deliberate attempt to damage the club at this time because we're in negotiations with players and a very important [potential sponsorship] brand."

If it is the Axis of Evil must consist of Mike Osman and Jimmy Cricket...
