Time for a "new kit" thread

Umbro have been quite restrictive in what they're allowing pro teams to wear this season - there really are only about 4 designs in use even including the various Chilean and Peruvian teams they have under contract, and most of them are just the England red world cup shirt in slightly different colours. Even our sash kit was already a teamwear design with the sash going across the other shoulder (as you'll see on their teamwear link).

I'm just a bit surprised there aren't more NEW styles out there yet, as far as I know Blackburn, Sunderland, West Brom, Swansea, Rangers and Man City are currently with Umbro and I haven't heard that they're changing.

We won't look like Stoke, they're with adidas and their 2011/12 shirts are usually previewed by the MLS styles which are already being worn.

Hi 9,

I disaree about a few of your points-

Umbro had a fair few templates this season, man city, sunderland, blackburn, universitario, hearts, rangers, west brom and saints to name a few all have 100% original templates. The most popular and common is the template based on our away shirt....forest, saints WB away etc..

Saints shirt is not a teamwear shirt it is 100% bespoke for us. (I own both)

All those clubs mentioned are changing their kits next season as the vast majority of umbro deals (if not all) are now 1 year cycles.

The new styles will have already been designed for a few months and will start trickling out come early summer.

jordansibley: Have just had a sneak peak at next season's home shirt. Can't say anything about it, but reasons why will become obvious soon... #saintsfc

I'm guessing he cant say anything because the sponsor is going to be announced soon?? Or its not by Umbro?

Each year I'm surprised how excited I get about a bloomin t-shirt. want to see it!

This may well be the reason!

aap3 have been announced as the club's main sponsor, signing a three-year contract.

The news article has been uploaded on to the mobile version of the OS, but nothing on the main site.

Odd I know, maybe somebody has made a mistake somewhere?

Cant be going back to red and white surely? That logo wont stand out unless they put it in a white box like the old crappy flybe logo.

It'd have to be a honking great box to fit it in and be legible.

They have 6 current templates in use - but only the round neck Saints away style (used by lots of others inc Forest, West Brom/Swansea A and Northern Ireland) and the striped kits used by Sunderland / West Brom / Rangers away weren't already in use before this season.

The Man City kit, as well as Universitario, are just the 2010 England away shirt.

Arguably the V-neck shirt used by Wales, Swansea H and Sunderland and Blackburn A is the 2009 v-neck collar on the 2009 England shirt model.

The Rangers / Blackburn H is the recent Tailored By England home kit, as is the Saints/Peru sash.

The Saints shirt is "bespoke", other than nicking the whole sash design concept from an existing Umbro Teamwear kit and the whole Tailored By look from the previous England home shirt just like those above.

The Hearts kit is the Winchester (Wrexham) Teamwear shirt with a contrasting middle panel.

ALL the Umbro deals are 1 year, but they'll still only be rotating 3 of those shirts out of use this year (and they've already got Universitario wearing the 2009 for another year).

I mentioned the Keegan era style shirt earlier in the thread, reckon that might be a possibility now.

If not I imagine they will just put the logo in black.

I'm a fan of stripes, but just as some of the 80s shirts were quite radical at the time, I would like to see us doing something radical with the stripes this time. Perhaps we could in some way blend sash and stripes or something seeing as some people like the sash (personally I am not that keen, but could see a merger of the two working).

The other issue of course is having something that would work with the aap3 logo. With this in mind, I wonder if Umbro could come up with a stripes design based on the stripes on their boots? Something like this:

umbrotrainerstripesshir.jpg

Perhaps it would need thicker stripes or a few more, but would be a radical variation on stripes and has a sort of sash-like quality to it.

What do you think?

(Apologies this is not a fully developed idea but I have only had MS Paint to work with and not paintshop pro or anything fancy!)

I really like that actually. Don't think the stripes would need to be that much thicker. Would be a tidy shirt with most of it being White and as you say gets the stripes and sash in there. I presume the diagonal stripes go across the chest and then the almost vertical lines down one side. Like it.

My hope is that the shirt on the OS displaying the new sponsor logo is not the shirt we will be having.

I agree. I'm sure that if the players are expected to wear rouch computer generated mock-ups then it will certainly affect their performance.

Disagree, I like the new Sunderland strip - Unveiled very early!

I think that they are better quality than both Adidas and Nike- without question umbro club badges are embroidered second to none.

I would expect that our new shirt maybe unveiled early too.

I noticed that shirt earlier today and immediately thought, I bet ours isn't a million miles away from that. I hope there's a bit more thought with the back of our kit. The Sunderland one looks like a complete abortion!

Makes me laugh, just discussing how we haven't seen any new Umbro templates and there it is, as if on cue.

But why doesn't anyone link directly to pics except me ?

Sunderland_home_11_12_Umbro_6.jpg

I don't really see where they're going to go with the new Saints home shirt from there. Even a central white stripe and not having the diagonal shoulder bit wouldn't be much different.

That makes me think we might maybe get a broad stripe first (not dissimilar to last year's Hearts kit actually). Total guesswork though, we've only seen the one new template, the West Brom shirt will give us a clue (assuming they're still with Umbro). I suppose we could have a single colour sleeve... but then again even having this season's Rangers away shirt would be brilliant.

I note the "new" Umbro shorts will have very little in the way of trim (no contrast trim around the bottom this year, but that's OUR colourscheme Sunderland have, so what will we have ?), and the new Umbro style socks look like they're just going to have two hoops on them, after this seasons plain / contrast turnover. That would work for Saints in white / red or white / black with the logo in the 3rd colour.

There should also be a few keepers' kits around shortly then...

Do you think Kieran Richardson thinks he's good looking? I bet he does...

Gecko, have you got the Football League name and number font templates by any chance ?

I like the designs, don't like the contrasting cuff thing though, and would prefer a bit more in the way of a stripe, either on the sleeves or on the side panels.

I think all our players should wear different designs in the same match. Keep the opposition confused. ;)

I'll be sad to see the sash die out altogether. An away version would be great! I'd also be happy to keep it as the home strip.

I think it works really well - the players really stand out when watching games on dreary winter afternoons.

It will be this design, probably with reversed colours (White in the middle). I wouldn't be surprised if everything else about it is identical, even the Hazard tape bit on the back.

This is what happens when you buy a template shirt from a major manufacturer. Not that I'm complaining, but anyone expecting anything radically different was always going to be on to a loser.

They've managed to avoid doing that with us and Sunderland for 3 years so far, I'm pretty sure if we get stripes we'll have the Rangers away/Athletic Bilbao. It also bears a striking resemblance to the image in this SFC Marketing email that came around...
