The worst cover I've ever heard is Sting's version of Bob Dylan's moving "I Shall Be Released". A truely dire upbeat version of one of Dylan's greatest. Richard Manuel who Dylan first gave it to sing, must have been turning in his grave.

It is beyond bad, I will agree. But at least it does have a tiny amount of artistic merit.

 

The very worst cover ever is William Shatner's version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, closely followed in second place by his reworking of Pulp's Common People. I'm not going to link to either of them because I don't want to go through the experience of hearing a single second of them ever again.
