I think it might happen for two reasons.

1. Norwich gets to try before they buy.

2. CMS chancing a possible fast track to the premier league with them.

I sort of agree. I don't buy into the view that CMS will be happy to just play out the season in the knowledge that he will get a move anyway in the summer. This is just about the best move he could get at the moment (other than being signed by Blackpool for a brief Prem stint!) as it provides him with a realistic chance of Prem football (and potentially Prem wages) at a club with decent potential.

Who's to say Norwich will still be interested in him if they secure promotion? They will then know they have a vastly increased income on the way and may set their sights higher. At the moment I guess they are looking for that "final push" and think he is the best person available to make sure they get out of the Championship.

If I was CMS I would be pushing hard for this move.

We should have bought him January, when we were allegedly in for him. I think with him on board in the transfer window,we would have been certain to make the top two.

clearly, p'boro dont want to sell...how can you buy without paying stupid money/club not selling..?

would we let them find out..?

would CMS come to us..?

He sounded interested when asked about it in January. Plus at his age he will be looking for one of the last big pay days in his career. His wages if he joined Saints would increase massively compared to what Peterborough can afford to pay him.

Now before I post this, I just want to say that I'm not convinced, nor do I think it'll happen. In short, don't shoot the messenger!

However, I've heard a rumour that Saints are still interested in Mackail-Smith, despite Norwich's attempts to sign him.

Even if this is true, it'd be very, very unlikely that we'd get him IMO.

Firstly, Posh wouldn't want to sell to a divisional rival, especially when it'd weaken their team considerably.

Also, Norwich are sitting pretty at the top end of the Champ. CMS could potentially fastrack his way to the Premier League if he joins them!

I'll be keeping an eye out on the OS tomorrow for any news on signings, but I'm preparing myself for maybe a midfielder to join on loan, and not a lot else!

No, not "this" at all.

Peterborough clearly want more than £3m to sell him to a club in a higher division. They would want even more to sell him to their main rival. He is a decent player at this level but if we paid over £3m for him we would look pretty stupid IMO.

Amid all the 'We should have signed him in January!' stuff, people seem to be forgetting that you can't just nab a player against the wishes of his club. If Posh denied us permission to speak to him, we stood no chance of signing him. Unless, of course, we'd been willing to indulge in some subterfuge, hoping he'd put in a transfer request. And that sort of behaviour can land you in serious trouble with the authorities.

As for now, I can't imagine for a second that Posh would loan a key player to a major rival for promotion. Norwich maybe, but not us.

Agree. Probably would have wanted £4-5m to sell to their direct rival, both to compensate lower promotion chance and appease fans.

They could say they helped him with his career if he went to a team on verge of prem - which sounds a lot better than flogged him to team below them.

Would he have wanted to come? He probably is guaranteed CCC football next season if he waits - or higher. If he came to us he may still be in league 1.

He is a 27 year old never played at higher level.

We have Lambert, Barnard, Guly, Lallana and Ox-C all scoring.

IMHO was never going to happen.

there's a surprise then, what with his chairman or football director saying that they'd turned down Norwich's offer and he'd not be leaving until the end of the season and all that. Why risk a good chance of increased revenue of 3 or 4 million £ next season for a lesser sum paid just a few weeks earlier at best?

I hope all the speculation turns his head slightly.

I'm hoping that Norwich get promoted with 3 games left, and he starts to think that any injury could ruin his Premiership chance for the following season,so he starts to pull out of tackles take it easy and devolops a "groin strain", at the vital stage of the season. Is that too much wishful thinking?
