Thedelldays Posted 16 March, 2011 Posted 16 March, 2011 Time to go back in your sub. It was true. Never met or spoke to patred, not even close to being ITK, but always thought there was something to it and a chance brief meeting confirmed it. What is a sub got to so with anything.. I simply do not believe that a manager with such a stature would go to the NPC let alone division 3 There we go
once_bitterne Posted 16 March, 2011 Posted 16 March, 2011 Martin O'Neil managing a L1 side? Oh my aching sides!!!
Gemmel Posted 16 March, 2011 Posted 16 March, 2011 What is a sub got to so with anything.. I simply do not believe that a manager with such a stature would go to the NPC let alone division 3 There we go After the ****e you post on here, i dont give a foook what you believe or not. I got lucky, met someone (Not even going to humour you with who) and it was explained to me in almost the exact way that patred posted it happened.
Gemmel Posted 16 March, 2011 Posted 16 March, 2011 Martin O'Neil managing a L1 side? Oh my aching sides!!! Don't end up looking silly once bittene.... you post some decent stuff
Gemmel Posted 16 March, 2011 Posted 16 March, 2011 Yeah, of course you did I hope the Navy cuts don't effect you. Dive dive dive
trousers Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Back to the topic, has Howard signed yet? No. IMHO of course (which reminds me, whatever did happen to Morph....?) ;-)
Scudamore Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 What is a sub got to so with anything.. I simply do not believe that a manager with such a stature would go to the NPC let alone division 3 There we go Well if you're going to go back to days past in your description of our league you should probably describe the NPC as division 2 non?

I got lucky, met someone (Not even going to humour you with who) and it was explained to me in almost the exact way that patred posted it happened. No offence intended to you, Gemmel - you clearly believe your source on the O'Neil thing. But doesn't it occur to you that the originating source of your info and of Pat's could be one and the same? A story from a single original source can be heard by many people from many sources, which is exactly how rumours spread (and gain a cachet of authenticity, as info appears unconnected when it actually isn't).
miserableoldgit Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 loan window doesn't close until Thursday March 24th so we have another week yet Radio Solent said this morning that the loan window closes today. Which is correct??
Rebel Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 The truth is O'Neil was down on the South Coast to meet up with an ex-player of his - he had dinner with him and his father and watched a Saints game at St Marys - from that truth a rumor spread as people had genuinely seen him down here. I was told this by someone who knows the ex-players father - something I know to be true as we've talked about that before!

Particularly if the source was a Saints "legend" or friend of who had an agenda....................
Rory Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 The Saints spokesman on Twitter putting a dampener on it does make it hard to believe it is going to happen though. Really? Weren't you among those who believed it was Cortese in the stands just because his twitter feed said so? LOL
Toomer Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 (edited) It is will he won't he day with regard to Howard IMO. Edited 17 March, 2011 by Toomer
Lets B Avenue Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Radio Solent said this morning that the loan window closes today. Which is correct?? Whilst I'm loathe to cast doubt on any info that Solent provide.(Should be a Roll Eyes smilie here) Unless it has changed this season, it closes on the 4th Thursday in March. That would be next week then.
Tamesaint Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Radio Solent said this morning that the loan window closes today. Which is correct?? Trust Radio Solent if you want to know about skate boarding grannies or ostrich eggs. Don't rely on them for footballing information.
Saint Charlie Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Would imagine we have a few targets and Howard is just one of them. He is a good player, but so are others.
Weston Saint Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Emergency Loan period ends 5pm on 4th Thursday of March according to Football League rules. So no panic yet as today is the 3rd Thursday in March.

Ken Tone Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1366955/Southampton-close-deal-sign-Reading-midfielder-Howard.html Arguably even more significant in terms of promotion (but just as likely to be untrue!) in that article is >>Norwich look set to complete a £3m move for Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith, 27. If that really were to happen now it might knock Peterboro's form badly at just the right time for us, but I think I've read somewhere that Barry Fry has already said no to this?
derry Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 The mail copying the echo and vice versa. Brian said on Monday that he would know more by the end of the week so it looks like nobody is in any rush except Saints fans. In any event he will be letting my son know as soon as it happens.

You can see Mackails view for sure, (apart from a load more cash) he may well be in the Premier league next season/

Matthew Le God Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Saints spokesman on Twitter 4 minutes ago... Nigel Adkins puts Howard rumours down to speculation: "often happens when managers are looking at moving on / bringing in players"
Liquidshokk Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Saints spokesman on Twitter 4 minutes ago... Nigel Adkins puts Howard rumours down to speculation: "often happens when managers are looking at moving on / bringing in players" Cant work out if that rubbishes the rumour or not. Cryptic

Window Cleaner Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Saints spokesman on Twitter 4 minutes ago... Nigel Adkins puts Howard rumours down to speculation: "often happens when managers are looking at moving on / bringing in players" Well he isn't going to say we couldn't afford him though is he?? I don't doubt that Reading wouldn't mind getting him off of their salary mass .
benjii Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Really? Weren't you among those who believed it was Cortese in the stands just because his twitter feed said so? LOL That and the fact it obviously was him.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Well he isn't going to say we couldn't afford him though is he?? Many managers have done in the past about players.
Window Cleaner Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Many managers have done in the past about players. Not where Cortese is chief exec though. Perhaps we will be surprised still. Not worried one way or t'other over Howard myself,as long as we don't get into a midfield crisis at any time soon we can probably do better for less.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Really? Weren't you among those who believed it was Cortese in the stands just because his twitter feed said so? LOL And you think it wasn't Cortese because...?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 In which case we must definitely be signing Frimpong as he was he was the other player linked earlier this week and NA didn't mention him.
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 In which case we must definitely be signing Frimpong as he was he was the other player linked earlier this week and NA didn't mention him. that's what I was going to say
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 In which case we must definitely be signing Frimpong as he was he was the other player linked earlier this week and NA didn't mention him. that's what I was going to say Ah, but were you also going to say that if we do sign him, I hope we haven't sold our souls and promised them to a deal on Oxo in the summer as payback?!?!?
Window Cleaner Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Ah' date=' but were you also going to say that if we do sign him, I hope we haven't sold our souls and promised them to a deal on Oxo in the summer as payback?!?!?[/quote'] Ox will be gone in the summer anyway, if we can lever something from it now it wouldn't be so bad. He's not been picked for the England U21s this time you know and I don't doubt that might wound his pride a bit because it was something that Theo had done at his age.I would have thought that a place in the squad for this year's U21 Euro would have been an objective for Ox.

Losing Kenwyne and getting Stern and selling Bale and getting Forecast are two that make me wince.
derry Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 It's got to be a gamble taking a player that is recuperating from a cruciate and playing his first games for a club in a crucial position. It's bad enough taking somebody who is fit and could get injured but knees need care not **** or bust situations.
Window Cleaner Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 do deals when a player comes the other way ever work for us? Losing Kenwyne and getting Stern and selling Bale and getting Forecast are two that make me wince. Surely there would be nothing permanent about Frimpong coming to us?

Losing Kenwyne and getting Stern and selling Bale and getting Forecast are two that make me wince. Stern was all right surely? He scored a fair few goals for us... Forecast I agree with though, which is perhaps unfair since I've never seen him play.
Chez Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Could not agree more, which is unusal. Running through this and the loan suggestion thread I think its fair to say there isn't a great deal of choice in terms of a central midfielder willing to come to us that can improve the side. I've gone through the NPC sides and there is not a lot of `dead wood'. It pains me to say it but I keep coming back to Michael Brown...

Yes, but I doubt we would play him unless it was really necessary in the first instance. NA would want him to train with the squad and settle into the way the team plays before risking starting him.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Surely there would be nothing permanent about Frimpong coming to us? Frimpong is an awesome prospect, so no, I wouldn't have thought so.
Chez Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Stern was all right surely? He scored a fair few goals for us...I'm sure many will agree with you, but personally I thought his and Thomas' signings were instrumental in our fall from grace. Scoring goals is vital, but I'd wager we'd have scored more as a side and conceded far less if John has never set foot at our place. Well never know of course but that's my opinion. I'd add, just for completion, that if we'd signed Jaidi and not Thomas we'd still be in the Championship.

I mean are you saying Adkins won't drop the current two or are you saying Frimpong is not better than the current two?
derry Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 would you say the same of Howard? I mean are you saying Adkins won't drop the current two or are you saying Frimpong is not better than the current two? I could be wrong but I just can't see the club gambling on what could, if one of the central midfielders is long term injured, mean that a player that must play is in a recuperation phase. On the other hand I can't see Brian Howard being anything other than the first pick central midfielder.
Chez Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 On the other hand I can't see Brian Howard being anything other than the first pick central midfielder. Instead of Chaplow I assume?
derry Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Instead of Chaplow I assume? It's hypothetical but I would think that would be the strongest pairing defensively.
